If I remember right, it depends on whether or not you waited for him when the Floating Contienent crashed. If you jumped without him, he’s dead. If you waited, I think you can find him in the cave on the Veldt… something else happens, and you’ll fight him in the colesseum to get him back for good.

Right. Assuming you did wait for him, you need to get the "Striker" weapon, I believe from the cave in the Veldt. Then go to the colosseum and wager the Striker. You fight Shadow, but it’s not too tough and you should be able to get him to rejoin you.
