Art contest: suggestions & signups

Okay.. A new contest was actually discussed in a staff agenda thread, so I’m posting a thread for it now.

You can sign up in this thread. I haven’t decided yet how to exactly go with this, so I’m open for suggestions.

Here are some things that ARE sure.

– We’ll have a theme this time. Which is Christmas! Isn’t that nice? *^_^*
– Anyone who wants to can participate. (except the judges, ofcourse!) Even if you think you don’t stand a chance, it’s nice to participate anyway!
– You’re free to use any material (CG, paint, color pencils, charcoal, etc)
– The drawing HAS to be your own. I will not accept copies from excisting pictures, or pictures that you didn’t draw yourself, but you sister or whatever did. (XD)
– Once again, there will NOT be a "qualification round" or "novices" and "experts". Art is art, and shouldn’t be devided in levels.

I’m not sure about B/W & colour catagories yet, and I’m thinking of allowing wallpapers this time as a seperate catagory as well.

I’ll create a page (again ^^) where all the rules, entries, and in the end winners and runner ups will be posted. The artist’s names will not be posted until the winner is announced.

Sooo.. interested? Have any suggestions? Please post it here! ^_^

Well, I can’t draw for the life of me so I will sign up as a judge then. Is that okay with you Nymph? ^_^

Um, could I use 3D?

If not, ill be a judge. Im quite sure I can manage that.

If we’re going to allow wallpapers, I suppose you could use 3D in it. I don’t think making wallpapers entirely 3D would be fair though, because not everyone is capable of making stuff like that.. So.. you would have to use *some* 2D in it, if that’s okay. ^^

Alright,I’ll sign up,although I may seem pessimistic towards my drawing ability,that’s because I’m not as good as I was,not that I can’t get a decent drawing going….so yeah,I’m in.

I would like to be a judge as well! I would have entered the contest myself…but my cousin stole my scanner and now he’s off to college without giving it back ^^;;;

I’ll go for it. I have some new stuff I’d like to try. Will there be places you know, 1st 2nd 3rd… ?I dont think the last art contest had them, if they did I dont remember.

If this is fine with everyone, the deadline is December 15.
If not everyone has their entry ready by then, I can always make it the 17th or so. I want to give the judges enough time to mark all the artwork before Christmas! Wouldn’t that be great? ^_^

well does it have to be anime or ff related? or just be christmas?

Nope, it doesn’t have to be Final Fantasy or anime related. ^_^ It can be anything you want, as long as it’s Christmas-themed.
Uh.. Explicit hentai or whatever isn’t allowed, though. XD

when is the due date for this thing?

15th of december i think. I get this strange feeling that im gonna loose but its gonna be fun. I just don’t know what to draw 😀

Lol, the most fun with this thing is thinking what to draw! Of course the worst bit is waiting for the results (or in my case looking at the other entries XD)

Try listening to some music or watching a really kick-ass movie or something like that. Those are things that usually get me inspired to create things. If you need some "Christmas Inspiration" check out the Trans-Siberian Orchestra (http://www.trans-siberian.com) . Those guys are amazing, and definitely inspire me… (can’t wait to see them in December… 4th row!!!!) 😀 But yes, anyways, their music is really awesome and maybe it might help you out. Download a song or 2 😉

I’ve done some Final Fantasy artwork so I’m up for this competition… I have some penciled sketches and some Photoshop work. anyway I can’t find an Artwork thread on here.

This entire forum (Artistic Discussion) is for posting art! There is no big "post your fanart here" thread, just make a thread for your stuff. ^_^

By the way, your entries don’t have to be Final Fantasy related, just Christmas. 🙂

Well I haven’t the time to CG another picture now… I have loads of assginments for university due in soon… I was thinking of submitting some work I did few months ago.. oh well I might start some threads including some of my art.

*nodnod* yes, it can be anything as long as it’s related to Christmas.
A few examples would be window shopping (aka looking at pretty things you want to have for X-mas.. ala Love Hina Christmas Special), Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer (^^), Santa in the mall with kids on his lap, unpacking presents, someone with a Christmas hat on, and ofcourse the religious part of it. Christ being born, the stable with the shepherds ‘n stuff, the three wise men from the East, etc etc.

Yeah, I will post the artists’ names here in this thread after the winners are announced. ^_^

There will be a color and b/w catagory again as well, because ya.. comparing color with black and white isn’t really fair.
So, two winners again! Or three/four, in case two get exactly the same average..

I’ve been thinking about prices this time as well, in the form of commissioning an artist two draw something you request.. but I’m not sure about that yet, and haven’t found anyone yet either. ^^
If anyone’s got a better idea.. Uh, please post it. ._.

About the wallpapers: They will be allowed, but they don’t count for color or b/w.. Instead, they’re a seperate catagory (readers go ""duuuhhhh!" *rolls eyes*" XD)

I judged the last FFS Drawing Contest, so I guess I’ll offer my assistance for this one also.

Looks like I can’t cg my pic. Only a few days before deadline and I’ve just started.

I’ve made a raw sketch, so.. still need to draw it again, ink it, and color it. XD I’ve got some more ideas but meh. I’ll just see what happens.. If I don’t have time left to color, I’ll enter the b/w catagory.

Well that’s a surprise! Because i wasn’t working yesterday I was able to draw my entry, as soon as I get it scanned I’ll send it to you Nymph!

Uh, mine turned out pretty bad. Unless I fix it up, I’m probably dropping out of the contest. I wouldn’t want to embarrass myself. Geez, I don’t even have the time to make it look good.

uhnn, i, for some odd reason, have not been able to do anything chirstmas oriented, and Its driving me nuts. So i might not be able to enter anything, its bugging the crap out of me!

well, it’s in, but scanning it just made it suck, so I’ve had to enhance the darkness etc. Oh well. In real life it looks friggin awesome!

Same here when i scanned mine it made it look worst, Well i guess it will be the same for everyone

Yeah, don’t drop out 🙁 . You are your own worst critic. What you might not like, others might be really interested in seeing. Besides, you still have a good 9 hours or so… that’s PLENTY of time to sketch something up 😀 .

If there are more people who haven’t finished their stuff yet, I’ll extend the deadline with one or two days.. =O

gah! my scanner decided to break today (thank you mdoern technology) so i’ll have to scan it at my friend’s house, i’ll try and do it tongiht so i don’t miss the deadline but it’ll be with you asap nymph! sorry for being a useless article X_x;

And yeah, the deadline is extended to the 17th. That’ll hopefully give everyone enough time to finish their stuff.

Well mine is yet to get put on the site, so hopefully that means there may be others out there like mine (sitting in Nymph’s inbox XD).

Hm, this contest is totally dead. I’m sure there’s a good reason for it and next time I talk to Nymph I will ask her about it. Strange.. :S
