I tried using that site before.. the netfirms one but it was too annoying, i got no where after ages trying to register, i eventually registered then i need an FTP and i couldnt be bothered, too much trouble.

Actually, once you got an FTP program and got used to it (which you will really fast) it’s ideal. Much better than browser uploading, which goes much slower, and only allows you to upload a small number of files at the same time.
I use FlashFXP, and I love it. ^_^ It’s an evaluation program, but it’ll still work after the 30 days are over. It just adds a counter (starting at 1, and adds one second per two days – until it reaches 30.. after that, it stays 30), then counts down when you start up the program. Once it’s at 0, you can connect.
So.. you have to wait half a minute before you can actually use the program, but at least you don’t have to set the date of your computer to a month before or something like that. @_@;

This sig (which as of this posting is my current sig) was to replace the other sig that I was going to post (see next sig). In my ultra weak attempt in making a sig that was "light". It featured 3 pictures that were extracted and slightly blured and I used a bit from the Aurora Plug In that was provided by a friend. Slapped on a few Arial 2.61 text around the place, put a few more other touches and there ya go. Sig De Simple.

The sig I made piror to 10/9, this sig had one picture, the background was again done by the Aurora Plug In, added scanlines and a shitty attempt at the bars…. sucked overall in my opinion, the only one that is keeping this from going into the trash was the pic itself.

I call this a "Best of Both World" sig. Dispite it being high-techish for about 3/4 across the sig, you see a cute girl all the way to the right. What is she doing? She’s warming up her hands in the cold cold weather that is my sig… okay, cheap story but eh. In case you didn’t note, Dj MogK’ is somewhat hidden in the middle, faded out a bit. This has some symbolism in it, meaning that Dj MogK’ is still here.. he’s just hiding out in the back doing his work (Mixing Music, DJing, whatever, whenever.) The flashy stuff… and there ya go…. o_O

This was kinda alright… then when I keep looking at it, it just started to feel all… &#@($&#@($&#@$… but an okay sig nonetheless.

just a sugestion… Change the font in your next sigs, it’s always the same and is located exactly in the same places

the pictures are hard to pic out at first but becomes more apparant as u look into it…..

overall a decent effect, but is still a ‘wacky’ sig…….

I’ll probably never use this sig, but I figured I would at least show it off or something.

Mostly just me working with colors and stuff. The only real image in the picture is the girl, plus some eyes that I found on the computer. The eyes are really hard to see though.

I can’t remember how many layers this was all together, but I would guess it was at least over 10.

AR I think everyone has his/her own style of making sigs… You like to make them with many things, really complicated sigs where there is many confusion… EA likes to do them in another way and I also have a special taste for Fire and Ifrit…
If we look closely to your sigs, they also have something that doesn’t really change and probably if I see a sig made by you I know it was really made by you… I think all the sigs made by a person have a little of the identity and the tastes of that person…

At least that’s what I think…

The sig itself, I love. *huge ego* XD Some people don’t exactly like the text to stand out like that, but I like my name to be in lights. 😉

Anyways, I created another sig tonight. It’s roughly 17 or so layers from what I can remember. The only thing bothering me about it, is that the text looks darker than it did before I uploaded it. So that’s my work for the night.

Just a word of advice on my side, which is my own personal opinion. When you use the same character over and over, it starts to make sigs look kind of repetative (if I spelt that right). Try using another character from time to time.

Otherwise, the sig looks good. Practice always improves skills.

ye i wanted it to look that way. i was just practicing. if i made it a sig, i would’ve used that room for text, i usually like using one image, too many images would make it kinda sucky. i liked the style you used on yours, just try using different colors other than blue, and use new characters, like tripplef said. keeep up ya work and dont give up. i like that background you used in your new sig, AR. the brushstrokes and everything that you used in it looks great.

Not a permanent name or anything, but something temporary. You know how people have to go through changes from time to time.

Anyways, I know it’s not my best, but it serves the purpose it was suppose too.

Edit: Oh yeah, duh, comment on the sig… Forgot about that. It’s pretty good, but I think the typo is a bit hard to read, eh? Maybe another run of red glow would be sufficient. Other than that it’s wicked girl.

Enigmatic: That sig is awesome that you just did. Probably the best I’ve seen from ya… But I think even though you faded the outside, you should put a dim BG in there…. and have it like brighten as it comes from the corners… Other than that I like it a lot.

First Banner:
It lacks a decent background….I suppose that the text is meant to be your BG….but it really just isn’t enough……i dunt really like your picture choice either….maybe some graphical type of backgound and have the text smaller and slightly blurred?…I really dunno know….but a better BG is defiantly needed…

Second Banner:
The colours are waaaaaaay too boring…….just black and white?…….needs more colour (so does the previous one……), and it suffers from the lack of BG problem as well……

Third Banner:
I just dunt like the picture choice here, but i guess it blends into the BG rather well…..but the BG shouldn’t just be a simple picture…..

Fourth Banner:
I hate the picture used……eniem is a jerk……and i think the lack of BG is another bad thing….

Fifth Banner:
okie its getting better, but still there isn’t much BG is there? I mean, its just Sora stuck upon the Tarzan pic already with the forest…..rite? Again make a better BG….

So altogether, you just need to make your own Background (BG)…….and have interesting effects…which can be found in Tut’s all over the net….

and I am sorry if i seem a little to harsh, i KNOW you are starting out, but its good for you to get a little crictism isn’t it?

anyway, yur sig is good. only for your first that is. everyone starts somewhere, and sadly i started very bad. but if you’ve seen my work, you’d agree i got alot better. anyway, good job and download some fonts (www.dafont.com) and check out some tutorials for your program. www.spoono.com is what i recommend. now just because of their tutorials, but because of their links. and dont be afraid to fuck around with your program and learn new things.

Chikage-yeah i will work harder next time..yeah i need some better fonts..i’m working on that,i just decided to work with what i had..hmm ur right about the imaging.:eye: but i’ll definitly keep going with making siggies! maybe my next one will be better..hmm..:D

i like the second one more (garnet sig). the boreder looks better, but like i said, i’m not a border fan so i dnt like it. the typography goes good. its hard to make girly fonts match, but it looks good. maybe if the font was a lighter color it’d be better though. the bg is nice too.again, the glow effect on granet doesnt look good…. thats all i would really change. and maybe the font color….

i see that you are going through the "scanline-stage". where eveything looks good with scanlines. try not to use it alot, people well think that your too repetitive without trying anything new….

Gogetta, border looks bad again. even thoguh last time you were offended by me saying that… when it does. so you should go easy with borders. and scanlines are too strong. your sigs all seem to be the same, except for the background and pics… you should try new stuff….:o

yeah…ur right..i knew it was too blurry but i couldn’t fix it and it was bad enough trying to size it, it was being a ***** once again u are right about it being to dark,etc…:( damn…oh well at least i still have the other one i’m working on maybe that one will come out ok…:erm:

I thought so..well I use Microsoft Image Composer. Then I when I’m done I save It as a JPEG (.jpg) so I can make it a link, and so on.

maybe because you keep using the same fire bg which is very repevtitive and the typo doesnt match. although i’m glad there is no glow or border….

umm.:erm: I understand the font..but the other writing ur not supposed to really be able to read, but if u want to know what it is its the incantation for Dragon Slave. And the pictures were barely resized..well at least it turned out semi good…

First of all, try finding LARGE pictures. You’d be amazed at how much better a sig can end up looking with those. You can makea large picture smaller to fit your sig, and it doesn’t turn out all pixely and grainy looking. If you get small pictures and make them larger, it looks kind of yek.

Second, try glowing your fonts. I’m not sure if you can do that with all programs, if not, try and get Photosop 6 or 7. I prefer 6 myself.

Last, don’t be afraid to experiment with other effects. The only way to improve yourself is to become familiar with other goodies you can do to your sigs.

Other than that, your sig works are coming along well. Good luck with your other stuff. ^^

May I ask, when did you become the sig god?

Some people have different opinions on how they like their sigs, but if you wanted to say "My advice to you would be not to glow font, because I personally don’t like it and I think sigs look better without it.", then go for it baby. Do not tell someone they are giving bad advice. It’s really REALLY rude, and other people don’t appreciate it. Be considerate.

Bella, try for yourself. If you like glow, then go for it hun. If not, then I guess you get your own opinion on it.

As for the whole photshop thing, I’ve just been using 6 since I’ve had it, and when I tried working with 7, it just didn’t click with me. Maybe it’s because I’m use to 6, but it’s not that big of a deal. Your sigs will still turn out looking great.

The glow effect can be good when used correctly, I liked most of Gogetta’s sigs that he used glow on, however Vivi, the very few sigs I have seen of yours I didn’t like. Now, if you’re such a great sig maker, where’s all the sigs!? And don’t be so rude in future.

just finished it. i dont like how it turned out. it was originally pink, and it looked better pink. and one of the things i did was use Wind in the background. and it came out a little strong so it ruff sorta and i wanted a smooth look. i am fixing it right now though…..

thats what we call ‘Graphics’. sigs dont have to have pics you know….. anyway, i took your opinion into consideration. and the font is the same as i’ve used in the other ones. its about time someone noticed.

what bothers me is that you say ‘backgrounds with your name slapped on them’. it take hours perfecting the background. you make it sound like a 2 minutes project. your thoguht on sigs are a background with a pic or 2 and then a border and your name. sure, its a sig. but you need to do other stuff. your skills well only improve if you experiment.

I’ll post a siggie too. I finished it last night, but am not too sure about using it. The text on it fits, but somehow looks like it’s in the way. And it’s quite uh.. depressive.

Nymph : I like the colours, or I should probably say lack of because it accentuates the images and looks all moody and cool. The only thing I’m not sure about is the font used for ‘Nymph’, I can’t really give a reason, which isn’t all that helpful, but it just looks a little odd.

And nice siggie, Sander. ^_^ I don’t like the border color too much, but I the motion blur effect (it *is* one, right? XD) is nice, and the girl’s cute.. ^_~

Neo Xzhan: Prettiful siggie. The image and the background do it for me but the text font should be a darker colour to make a nice contrast against the bright colours on the sig. Nevertheless, good job.

i’ve been gone and havent got a chance to comment sigs. but i did look back at some that i missed. and i noticed that gogetta is getting much better. i know we have had conflict in the past (heh), but they are starting to look really good. so good job….. (i’m still no fan of the glow….. ;)… yup, i had to throw that in)

I’m gonna post this Magus sig up. I made a background of t before hand, but I didn’t wana screw up the quality. So I made it into a sig. I changed it quite a bit, but I like it. If only you could see the background in all it’s glory…dang…

and yes goggeta, i love blue…i sometimes use green and red, but mostly blue……
as for yer sig….its kinda simple….but still holds something strange to it…..i dun’t really like the piccy, coz it looks bad…..

the BG is kinda simple..but thats not too bad…

as for your blending question…just learn to play with blend modes and use some of the tools….(if u use photoshop)…making sigs isn’t about going continously through filters…they never look that grand….

so i can’t say it is absolutly earth-shattering…nor would i say that it is like poo…so i use the term interesting to descirbe most things in between, and those works tend to lean onto ‘earth-shattering’ side, even though it is a long way away…..just think of it like a scale….with good on one side, bad on the other..and interesting in the middle……

as for making it evil…not really…the colours are waaay to bright for that….

Triple F: again a great sig, the cute little cat girl makes a come back, and the text and effects all make it a great sig with an ‘pro’ touch to it…..its really good

Sniper: I like the Death’s Head one, execept for the Axe kinda thing put there, looks kinda stupid….but apart from that it seems to be blended in a decent manner, but your second one isn’t as good, it seems to be missing something, and the frog thing isn’t too good either…..

Mephisto. I don’t see the need to post on your sigs really, considering they are nearly flawless. The only problem I’ve found with them is that you use the same cutout style for nearly every one of them. This gets a lil’ old eventually, but I myself tend to do the smae style of border fro most all of my sigs. Other than that, as I said, nearly flawless.

meph….i didn’t like your sigs…..especially the first one….the background doesn’t look that nice, and the piccys don’t seem to blend well…and the font is also pretty bad…..

Yeah, my original version had a more complex background, but I found that the problem with that was the sig looks cluttered and you get distracted by it… attention gets taken away from the animation.

Actually, I’ve been thinking of not doing animated sigs anymore, it’s hell on 56k users page loading time, and they take way too long to make.

Sander/Neo Xzhan: I especially liked the image you used in your sig as you might know but the background and the font is a bit too plain for my liking but nevertheless it’s an another good sig.

You can’t take some pixels from the width and put them in the height maximum, or the other way around.
So not 200 in width and 400 in height, or 80 in height and 520 in width, or whatever. 450 pixels wide and 150 pixels height is the maximum.
It’s not about having one or two pixels too many, no one cares about that.. but your images really are way too big. Just try to keep them withing the range of 450×150 and it’ll be fine.

I personally like making Angel Sanctuary sigs and I go with something simple and not too fancy when making them.

Like my current sig pic. Tis very pretty. Also has words in Al Bhed.

old sig. I found the picture of Alexiel off of my Angel Sanctuary DVD. So I kinda used my mom’s computer for a second to get the pic off of the dvd and then transfered the image over to my computer. Then I played with it in photoshop. ^_^

As for my avatar. Its a picture of me. Played with that in photoshop as well. But the tattoo is very real. 😉

ya, i actually made the first draft without font. but that was when i thoguht the sig looked bad. then not o long ago i added the text, and i juts chose the font without really much effort. i know i use that font all the time, i dunno why either since i have a shit load of fonts…. :nono:

New sig, along with the name change. Been really into .hack lately.

I tried my hardest with this sig to make it good. Even tried cutting out an image to stick in the sig. But tried not to get too fancy since I can’t do a whole lotta fancy stuff. Font is very simple. fixedsys r0x0rz j00r b0x0rz. w00t. 😛

Anubis, here’re some things you should improve imo, work a little more on the background, not just black, and then blend your picture in the background, and it misses text man!
Search for some tutorials for cool backgrounds maybe and learn from them…

I’m kinda rusty on graphics, before my current sig I haven’t done anything for months, but I’ll practice so I can be in shape soon… 😉

OK, firstly you have no justification for what you said to Ross.
If you’re going to tell him that he’s done something wrong at least try to explain the what and why parts. What is the effect you’re talking about here? Why is it a problem?

Mephisto, your sig looks OK. The main problem I see is with the tentacles. It looks like they started off trying to be tentacles or something but then changed their mind and decided to be gradiented stringy blobs that look out of place. I think I’ve seen the effect that you were trying to come up with, but I also think you botched it. Also, they’re not very smooth with only the outer glow. I find that it looks much smoother if you use both inner and outer glow. Also, your sigs, although extremely cool looking, get kinda boring after awhile. Why don’t you try something different? Like…something simple and…rustic and rugged.

Ross, I think that the sig looks great compared to the previous ones you’ve made. My suggestions are to keep your border simple and visible, and to try to have more of a forground. The whole sig looks somewhat incomplete because you don’t have anything that really stands out more than the rest. Although this is fine, it might look better if you brought up the contrast on one of the pictures more so that it stood out enough that you could tell that it’s not in the background. Other than that I think you did a great job, despite what Mephisto might say.

Nah, man, the rectangle looks fine. It’s a cool sig, love the red swooshy stuff.

And Mephisto, I always like the renders that you put into your sigs, it provides a nice contrast.

I don’t have photoshop on my computer at the moment, so I actually havent made any in a few months, but before I did get my new computer, I did actually save a few.

Haven’t used photoshop nearly as much as I use too since I left here, but here are three of the sigs I’ve made since then. Two for myself, and one for a friend. Maybe not as good as my old normal approaches, and maybe not as good, but I do still exist.

And after viewing over this thread, my advice to any of the newer sig makers is to not give up. You’d be suprised a some of the things you can learn by just sitting down and playing around for 30 minutes a day on photoshop. Never fear experimenting. You will improve.

Haven’t used photoshop nearly as much as I use too since I left here, but here are three of the sigs I’ve made since then. Two for myself, and one for a friend. Maybe not as good as my old normal approaches, and maybe not as good, but I do still exist.

And after viewing over this thread, my advice to any of the newer sig makers is to not give up. You’d be suprised a some of the things you can learn by just sitting down and playing around for 30 minutes a day on photoshop. Never fear experimenting. You will improve.

yup! I always liked your style of sigs triple F!
You have your own way for making sigs, just like I have mine…
And I think everyone should train to have their own style and work on that style because graphics it’s a HUGE thing, if we try to be masters in all styles we won’t be master at none…

I like this too, a very sandy approach. Reminds me of a beach. It is too subtle for me though.

I dunno Mephisto, I think your sigs would look better if they had some sort of…main theme to them.

Even though they are all abstract they all have a main theme…

Perhaps most important is the ability to blend your stuff together fluently, and most of you are just not doing that.

Azwethinkweiz: you’re massive post with a LOT of sigs, most of them did not blend *that* well, just learn to make sure there is more of a flow rather then just sticking the piccys on.

As for Kitten’s work, I’ve always respected your work, this is no exception.

I’ve never really used lightwave. These days I’m spending more time coding and messing around with XML than graphics. I’ve been too lazy to develop my graphical style beyond what I have so far. It’s a nice mix of 3D and other images with a tech-grunge effect in my opinion.

i dunno this looks whoa out out place. I mean I think the choice in text isn’t neccessarily bad, but it make it hard to read, even with the outline. The boys pic seems to have been cut a bit short…It’s erm decent for a beginner i suppect tho….

Edit: Oh and I know a lot of people here kinda got this thing about a border of some sort. To tell you the truth, I only think a border is in good use when what you want to do is close in the sig. If you don’t want it to be, then no border…In this case… I think a border may have helped because the background doesn’t seem to end, and it’s not clear enough to make out…a bit blurry if you will…so borderd…imo

You seem to be good at animation, i’ll give you credit for that, animation is very time consuming.
The only thing I could recommend is make the backgrounds stand out a bit more, other then that, there’s nothing wrong with them.
Keep it up…^_^

You seem to have picked a random light blue for the text and whilst it stands out making it easy to read it doesn’t co-ordinate with the other colours.

It’s better to pick a colour from the picture (the dropper tool thing is useful for this and seems fairly standard in all arty programs) that both stands out and works with the scheme of the picture.

This is my very first banner ever using Photoshop, and I made it using some basic tools. It’s a banner of Heather, from Silent Hill 3. Took me roughly two hours to make. Looks horrible. I made it December 23rd.

This is the second banner I ever made, which was created yesterday on Christmas Eve. I tried to go for a simple approach and out came this. It’s a banner of a great singer, Kelly Clarkson.

My latest one, made just half an hour ago. I really tried to combine the best of my skills to create it, and again tried for a more simpler approach, and added lots of brush strokes and more layers than I did before. Took me about twenty minutes.

The only thing I could recommend for this is to tone the colours down a bit.
You seem to have a great blending technique AT, all of your work looks nicely put together and nothing seems to be out of place. Keep it up ^_^

Hey, it looks good. 🙂 The only thing I would suggest is the letter coloring. It’s kind of hard to read, but I like the colors you used. Maybe you should make the lletters brighter, maybe blend some brighter colors or something into them.
