Should’ve asked before I bought it, but…

Does anyone know how www.bestprices.com is able to sell Evangelion for $100 when everywhere else it’s $170? I did just buy a legitimate copy, right?

I could tell you that Best Buy sells it for $100 dollars as well. Most other places i’ve seen sell it at $109.

I just came back from my little anime shop with my friends and we split the Evangelion DVD box set, Death & Rebirth, and the End of Evangelion. It was $100 all right, so you should have nothing to worry about ^_^

Really? Wow. Is it $100 dollars at Best Buy stores or just their website? Because if it’s that price in the stores…. damn. There’s a best buy not far from where I live and I was just in that area yesterday. I could’ve bought it there and not have to wait for the thing to be mailed to me, and I could’ve used that $20 gift card my uncle gave me for my birthday…. RAGE. 😡 Oh well, next time I research prices more carefully before I buy.

So how come it’s $170 dollars in so many places, including its publisher’s website?

I just checked BestBuy’s site, which has it listed as $169.95.

FunkeyMonkey, where do you find "little anime shops"? 🙂 Closest thing I can find to one is a comic book shop with one shelf dedicated to manga. (And some dvd stores, but right now I’m more of a manga person.)

Where (online or offline) do you guys recommend I buy manga? It seems really expensive everywhere I look. The Eva books that I bought were 15 US bucks each, and it seems like this is the normal price for these types of books. I’m a speed reader, so as much as I want to be an avid manga reader I wouldn’t be getting my money’s worth. (Also, buying the books where I currently look at manga isn’t worth it because the only places that I’ve found that sell them have a very limited supply and seem to sell books in a non-sensical way. For example, if a manga is 20 books long they’ll only have books 9 and 13. You would think if they were only going to sell two of them it would be 1 and 2 or 19 and 20. Unless someone bought every book except those two, which doesn’t make sense). I actually read both Chobits books cover to cover sitting in a bookstore. (Note to anyone who tries to do this: the armchairs in Barnes and Noble are much nicer than the wooden floor in Waldenbooks. And in either store, reading a book backwards while laughing over things like buying underwear for a computer will cause people to stare at you.)

Well, the shop that I go to is a little "Mom and Pop" shop that only advertises locally around the area where I live. Maybe you should look in the yellow pages for a shop like that? Or maybe you can ask around?

As for the manga thing, I recommend buying the books straight from the publisher’s website. They usually have the books you want when you want it, and you can return them when you’re finished ^_~

US$16.50? Now that’s really expensive! Over here in Singapore, I buy an eva book for S$8.50 and it’s considered one of the more expensive manga. Usually they cost abt S$5. US$ is approximately twice the value as the S$, right?

In Germany EVA is one of the "expensive" mangas, too. That means � 6. Normally they cost � 5… I am really stunned at how much these books cost in America. :notgood: That�s insane, I tell you!

I agree…anime and manga here in the US is so inhumanly overpriced it makes me livid. Not much anime for me, with my paltry income ;_;.

I rent the vast majority of my anime. There’s a great store in the Detroit suburbs called Masquerade, which is basically any anime fan’s dream come true. I also rent anime through an internet service called netflix. They have a great selection there.

As far as actual stores though, I would think the only way to discover them is via word of mouth. Try and track down some anime fans and get it out of them.

acclimatesolutions.com is a good manga site. I haven’t bought anything from them yet, but I hear they’re the best. They’ll even send you a free translation with a manga purchase.
