Well it took me some time 2 understand in the beginning. But u can learn ur gf’s different ability’s and some include the possibility 2 junction magic to ur stats. U can have the ability 2 junction magic 2 ur defense. Like u can junction fire 2 ur elemental defense. The more spells u have the higher ur defense. Some kinds of magic add more defense or more kinds of defense (like ultima which adds 2 all elemental res). U can also add 2 attack or status change protect or defense.

Did you take Quistis’s tutorial? It’s helpful. If you didn’t, it’s still available from the desk in the second floor classroom. Basically, junctioning is essential to do well in the game. Just go into Junction after equipping a GF with appropriate junction abilities and select the stat you want to junction to. A lot of it sort of makes sense, for example, junctioning restorative magic such as Cure or Life to HP works really well.
