I was thinking of buying the recently released Escaflowne movie DVD and the first couple DVD’s in the series. Just wondering, are there any fans of the series here? Would it be worth the purchase? Any other comments?

I am a fan of the TV series. Yay. I plan on buying the DVD as soon as it gets released… right now I have to watch it on TV, hehe… The movie, I dont know it. I have only read an article and seen an AMV… but the series is one of my favourite anime. The story is cool, the animation is great, the characters nice, and… and… isnt this enough? ^-^ Just go for it, buy what you can get your hands on! *jumps*

Apparently the movie is the series all squished into 1 movie, and a lot of stuff is missed out. But don’t quote me on that, cuz I don’t know for sure. Its just something I heard.

But I loved the series! Man that RAWKED! I almost bought myself a deck of tarot cards after that. Of course, then I remembered that Hitomi didn’t use the ‘real’ tarot, because there’s no such thing as the dragon knight or whatever she called it. Divination isn’t really my thing, either so… stuff that thought :p

O.K., so I went to a local Anime/Manga place and found out a little more. If I’ve got anything wrong don’t blame me, blame my source. Aparently Escoflowne was orignally supposed to be about 52 eps. long. They had the whole story and everything worked out but half way through production the funding was cut. Without the cashflow to do the full story they had to wrap it up in like 26 eps. and change the ending. The movie that was recently released on DVD is the story all compressed with the original intended ending. So thats what I found out. BTW I didn’t have the cash and currently have no DVD player so I didn’t buy it.

I love Escaflowne! I’m one of those rare, rare people who like the movie a bit more than the show at certain points. I don’t know about the changed ending, but it sounds like a lot of animes are 52 eps. Are you sure the person wasn’t talking about Final fantasy unlimited? That’s what happened to that anime. 50-something eps were cut in half. Anyway, I haven’t seen the entire show (I was introduced through Fox Kids 🙂 ) but the series moves at a fairly good pace and doesn’t drag, which is good and something more animes should do.
As for the movie, I love it! I like a lot of the new character designs, but I’m not a big Chrono Cross fanatic or anything. 🙂 Millerna is a lot better than in the series I think, she really seems to have more of an edge and that rose symbolism is really neat. The other character designs are pretty good, too. After watching the movie I got a bit irked by the show’s not-too-subtle European clothes. But hey, the series was really good, and the eps that ran on Fox Kids were enough to make me go and buy the video for the last three eps in the series. Very nice ending. 🙂
