Did you name your characters?

did you all none or some I named some of them how about you.

i named cloud matt, after me, the first time i played it

Naming characters. I have done it each time I’ve played FF7, lol. FIrst time I played…it went

Cloud9-Cloud
Zool-RedXIII
Cid5-Cid
Vincent-Nightmare

That was only some of em’. One time I named RedXIII after the Taco Bell chiuhauha. Lol. But yeah, it all puts more of the fun in FF7.

I named Cloud after me, as I usually do in RPG’s then I leave the rest the same.

<font color=red face="comic sans ms">I never rename the characters in any FF game, it gets too confusing. I once called Red XIII Nanaki, but Cloud still wonders who Nanaki is when you get to Cosmo Canyon :rolleyes: , so I don’t bother any more.

I named Cloud a really neat name and once or twice renamed the rest but the story sometimes gets wierd when you change the names.

I used to rename some of the characters, but never actually played all the way through the game with these names.

Example names are:-

Barret – Mr. T
Cid – Sid (people need to learn how to spell.)
Cait Sith – Crap Shi… Well, you can probably guess the rest.
Red XIII – Nanaki / Red.
Vincent – Vince. (My originality is starting to end.)
Cloud – My name here (usually, or Nexion, a name I made up.)

Strangely I never renamed the female characters. What does this tell me about myself?

**Minor Plot Spoiler.**

On a sidenote, one character’s name can result in some hilarious dialogue, like this taken from the escape from Shinra Tower.
(Aeris and Red XIII and Barret (aka Mr. T) are just about to run out of the tower when Barret realises they’re trapped.)
AERIS:- "You go. It’s me they’re after."
MR. T:- "Hey, you got into this mess because of Marlene. I’m not going anywhere!!!"
AERIS:- "Thankyou Mr. Mr. T!"
MR. T:- "Huh? Who you calling Mr. Mr. T? That don’t sound right?!"

Nope, I never named any character anything else except for the default name. I don’t see the point of changing it.

Yeah, i named all of my characters. It’s the only FF game where you can (cept FF6 and 9)

i make up some names like in ff6 to celes macica and for relm i used dagger hehe i usually name people after my buds and me

I only name my favs/main char

In FF7 since I donm’t really liek Cloud, I named Vince my name, Velld. I also named Red XIII his real name, Nanaki.

and I always give my name to the main male one. 2nd male gets my cat’s name. the 1st female get’s my dog’s name. and so on and so on. it makes it more fun. and if someone else is playing then it makes is easy to tell who’s game is who’s.

The first time around, I didn’t name them outta fear. The second time I named them the names of my friends at the time.

Cloud – Eric
Tifa – Adella
Aeris – Elistriel

I can’t remember the restl.. Yuffie was Azumi I think. All named after role playing characters from AOL. 🙂

Who do you say that? I don’t get confused. I know the guy with the spiky yellow hair is Cloud, the lion-like animal is Red etc. I don’t see how people can become confused.

I always re-name my characters. I feel it adds more of a personal feel to the game. I normally name Cloud after myself, and the other characters after friends and other fiction charatcers (depends how I feel when I re-name them).

Only Cloud, Aeris, and RedXIII (which i named Nanaki)…i think that is all of them that i named, I think that i might have named barret after my brother.

I made up names…and I used my friends names…and I used names that would make the game sound funny…

The first set of names I ever used is as follows:

Cloud – Lee
Tifa – Lara
Barret – Gunz
Yuffie – Marlene
RedXIII – Nasher
Vincent – Darknight
Cid – Tom
Cait sith – Dan
Aeris – Aeris (I just wanted to keep her the same)

I always use these names, it makes more sense to me. Off playing I can refer to them as cloud etc but once I tried playing with the default names and it was just weird.

I named cloud after me and Red XIII Nanaki, I wonder why they don’t let you do that to every character in other FFs now…

Im not sure why other FF games restrict us. FFVIII and FFIX though I keep the names the same. I once called Squall ‘Wolf’ :eye:

i neva change the names because i like to keep things perfect. i have the most perfect data off record…….

I named all of them Sephirot(thinking it would be funny)but after a while the game was a bit confusing…..

red XIII – vegeta (works really well, soooooo funny)
cid – master roshi (another funny one, master roshi saying "SHEILA! I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU TO SERVE SOME $�*(*&*)�"%$"�^$ TEA!" lol)
cait sith – cat shu (as in chiat-su or however it’s spelt, that little guy is EVIL!)
yuffie – was gonna call her videl but forgot and called her pikkoloa as in pikkolo

my mum once named them all after our cats except cloud, who was summat like spike… it was really funny cos red was called felix and cid was harry-LAA…

Aeris- Hana(As in Flower, not nose!)
Red XIII- Akai XIII
Yuffie- Uso Tsuki(I heard this was slang for "liar")
Cait Sith- Mecha Neko
Cid- Hidoi(Cruel, mean…)
Vincent- Bakemono(demon, monster, etc.)

I can’t be the only one who ever considered naming Barret Mr. T, I pity the fool who hasn’t:mad:

Barret-Firimir (means ‘mortal’)
Tifa- Kenda (I wish was my name)
Aeris-the slut (worked so well whenever someone was talking about her… " Where’s the slut?" heh heh heh…)
Red XIII- Huan
Yuffie- Angie (my name!)
Cid- America (then everyone called him ‘Captain America!’ Hee hee! Get it? GET IT?!?!)
Vincent- Jas (kinda like, Boba Fett? Anyone? Huh?)

I usally name the main character after me than the others are names of my friends or something like that.

I played the game about a zillion times, and never have I changed the names. I mean, whats the point. It sounds stupid when one of the characters are talking and their names at the top of the conversation box is something different from their real names. I’m getting pissed. Signing off.

The first time through i left them the same then the second time i started changing names of a few to:
Cloud-Spike
Red XIII-Lone Kitsune
Vincent-Peacemaker

I kinda kept their names like that every time i played

if cloud is called jack or something man the whole game is screwed for me (not entirly of course) but I think it sucks….even if it is a not-so-important character like cid in FF7 or something….how about this question:
all you people here who thinks it’s dumb to name your characters, how about naming red XIII nanaki…….I think it isn’t such a big sin as some other stupid name but I like red XIII better……….

Hell Fire is right about that one. Naming your characters is very stupid, although I did it in the past, but that was a long time ago….

– The main characters were often named Rick (own name)
– I had one girlfriend named to, I thought, Tifa or something
– I had Vivi once called Dork, if you are a lil’ used about that one you probably think it’s better
– And Quezecatol was something else, because it was too hard to speak, and Shiva was named ‘sloerie’ once

It’s been a long time since I’ve played the game, but I played many times. The first time around I didn’t rename anybody. I know that I definitely did rename some of the characters in future play, but I’m not exactly sure what. I do remember specifically that I renamed (minor spoiler coming, not very big, but if you haven’t played, you might not want to know)

It Doesn’t Matter, what you think. In short Some of us like to rename our charictures to give it a personal touch. If it was a Bad thing, then Square would not have given us the Option of doing this. In short Know your Role, And Keep your Fingers off of the Keys.

Tifa-Sarah or Ayla(Chrono Trigger)(cause well I think it suites her better than Tifa)

Cid- Cid (its a good name)

Cait_Sith-Cait Sith (it is a good name for him I mean jeeze I have to keep some of em the same alot are good for the names)

Vincient-Vincient (cool name for him)

Yuffie-Yuffie ( shes to weird to change it )

And oh thats it right yep!

I always name my main male character "Abel" after the main character in the Dragon Quest/ Warrior Anime made by Akira Toriyama (Of Dragon ball Z & Chrono Trigger fame). The series only made it one season (13 episodes) but it’s one of my favorite animes of all time…

And Cid was just Cid. It was kinda funny for a while, but I stopped it in half of disc2 cause it went so confusing. Plus most of the names didn’t suit them.
