I supose in some way, he could be clasified as one, like Tifa could be clasified as a Black Belt and Cloud as a Swords Man. He does have a Limit named Dragon, and some of his Limits invovle him jumping.

I’ve always thought of him as that, and the other characters as;
Cloud: Knight
Tifa: Monk
Aeris: White mage
Barret: Archer
Nanaki: Different type of monk?
Vince: Archer
Cait Sith: Bard
Yuffie: Thief/Ninja
Sephiroth: Ninja/Black Knight

Hmm, this is what I think. Cloud is the knight. Tifa is the blackbelt or monk or whatever you call it. Aeris is the white mage. Barret is an Archer, I guess. Cid is a dragoon. Vincent, to me, is a beserker because you lose control of him. Red13 is the animal. Caith Sith is the stuffed animal. Yuffie is the ninja or the thief.

I’ve never thought that Cid as a Dragoon, but that makes perfect sense, and Vincent as a Berserker that makes sense as well.
