(1947) DIMITRI TIOMKIN – The Long Night (2010 Release) (APE Lossless/Scans)

This Tiomkin classic was already shared here a couple of times in 320kbps mp3, including a repost I did. But nothing like having it in lossless with artwork… the file size is bigger, but who cares?

Wait, did I say "file size is bigger"? No, my friends, it’s not bigger! For some reason beyond my comprehension, it compresses in lossless below 320kbps. I double checked it with both Adobe Audition using the spectral view, and although the bandwidth is limited to 8 kHz (it’s a 1947 recording transfered from damaged acetate discs), we still have some very low background noise that goes all they to 22,05 kHz (CD’s maximum frequency response), meaning it’s not fake lossless. I also compared with the (now deleted) 320kbps mpe I had, and any background noise above 16 kHz is totally cutted out! So, how come a lossless compression is SMALLER than a lossy compreesion? Well, pard’ my french, but who the fuck knows? 🙂 The total filesize may be bigger because of the scans, but not because of the music files…
