I would agree Eva has a very good intro and the songs pretty funky also. I also like Robotech intro, pretty basic but is pretty good and Nadesico intro. I haven't seen too many series though, I wish I could see more.

Well, I like the intro to Love Hina (Sakura Saku's tripped-out tempo and Megumi Hayshibara's lightning fast lyrics really suited the crazy nature of the series), and the distorted sound effects suited it even more whenever Keitaro was shown being 'launched into orbit' by Naru!

(The intro to the follow-up OVA Love Hina Again was just downright boring however, and proves that the LH franchise had by then degenerated into a cross between borderline hentai and a single-minded cat-fight between Naru and Kanako, with the still bumbling Keitaro caught in the middle!)

The intro to Gasaraki is also very well done, symbolising very well the dark, noirish tone to the show, especially the haunting theme tune.

Finally, the intro scene to Oh, My Goddess! (the OVA, not the movie) sums up the sweet, happy, romantic nature of the series, showing that even with celestial beings, love's rocky nature is always going to ensure that life will be challenging.

The best intros that i have seen...so far are all pretty good, i most especially like the Socerer Hunters theme is got good music and awesome pic to start with. Another good one that is pretty good is the one for Excel Saga, this intro has kinda dumb music, but its hilarious.:D :p

Either Trigun or Fruits Basket have my fave intro.

Exel saga is pretty damn good, I like Hyatt and the banana, Yami no Matsuei is good for some reason the ending is good too, Evangelion is a good one too, and I'd actualy have to say that the last opening of Sailor Moon (stars) is my all time favorite, I'm not sure why, its just cute, but it also makes me sad since it was the last season...*sigh*

The first Naruto ending song is... just one of the best songs I�ve ever heard in my life. It can also really cheer me up.
The second Naruto opening is my favourite right now. It�s not only the music, it�s also how the pictures are arranged. I love it~

I would say cowboy bebop, because it seems to be the cool thing to do, but im gonna go with Castle of Caligstro (you know that underrated Lupin Movie by the dude who did Spirited away?), very well done and different than most stuff out of japan.

I pretty much second all this one, though I might add that the Trigun intro is... boring IMHO, I always skip it.

Mine would have to be Inuyasha's Grip! opening. Partially because the song is a kick-ass song, which really does get me excited to watch the show, and also because the animation is gorgeous.

Starts off with a quick Inuyasha/Kagome blurb, which I do enjoy, even if it is a little cheezy. It's a good setup for the upcoming episode. And then it breaks into a high-energy intro with the introduction of characters like the Shichinintai, Sesshoumaru, and the battles between the characters.

Another opening that I'll always have a soft spot for is Thundercats. Although an American cartoon, it was animated by Japanese artists (Pac Studios, who later became Disney Japan), and that intro ALWAYS takes my breath away. ^_^

Gundam Wing has a pretty cool intro, although the song is sung in Japanese, it still sounds cool.

I love the 60's styles of Cowboy Bebop :P

You must look to three criteria: Music, Imagery and Creativity.

based on these three tenants, the choice is clear:

Cowboy Bebop. Hands down. Cliches abound in anime intros (now I'm not saying it's always a bad thing, some are really good, but nothing to get wet over, ((Fullmetal Alchemist, Inuyasha etc.)))

However, I think Bleach is a good entry. The reworked Orange Range song Asterisk is really appropriate with the tone of the show. Furthermore, you can tell the animimators did alot of extra work with the intro (a plethera of different costumes, freaked up animation techniques, great character interactions, and phenominal cinematography)

as for endings, weeeeel I think FLCL did does it better than anyone. And as a musician who grew up in the 80s and early 90s, The Pillows and their brand of unique alternative sound, is so refereshing. I love ambient music (i've got a Sigur Ros tattoo incorprated with a Scar-ish design) I love metal (Rammstein forever) and I love anything that ends in 'core' (noise-core *the locusts* hard-core*too many to name* nerd-core *MC CHRIS AND HORSE the band, come on* Even Emo-core... sometimes. Trance is key too, hell, i apperciate any music that has artistic intent. But I was born alternative, and I'll die alternative. Sunny Day Real Estate, The Pixies, these great bands are dead in America thanks to bubble gum punk and mindless emo. But The Pillows, Yoko Kanno (Her love of Jazz is definetly alternative inclinded) These people keep it going... sorry, I where am I?

Personally, my favorite intros, in terms of animation and music sync are the Bebop and Champloo ones (They always get me psyched about the episode I'm about to see for the 3rd time >.<; ). And I do like the Trigun intro somewhat, but I find the show itself to be better. As for Bleach, the intro is good in it's animation, but the song doesn't get to me (Not that I think it's bad, I just don't love it xP)

And to go off topic somewhat, I love The Pillows and their music for FLCL =D (Although I can't recall any real intros for the show...the ending's greatness is something I can agree with fong about =P)

Hm....The coolest intro I've ever seen is definitely the one for Hellsing. The theme is hella catchy and fun to sing to, even if it makes no sense.

Gantz. Hands down.

It's like... It's just... It's awesome. I get so psyched up every time it starts. I usually skip anime intros, even good ones, like Hellsing or GitS, but Gantz? Never. In fact, I often watch it two or three time before I start the episode. Yeah. It's just great. And the song is awesome. No lie, I've been listening to it constantly for the past 5 days, stopping only once to recharge the battery in my MP3 player. Super Shooter has got to be the best theme song I've ever heard, and the video clips in the intro are awesome too.

To sum up, Gantz Intro = Best Intro Ever.

Fruits Basket, all the way. The song is sweet and sad, yet the lyrics are hopeful, which really sums up the series in general. The animation gives you a broad introduction to all the characters (I love the way they have Hatori with snow) and it all just...fits. It's very soothing as well.

Well, I like the Ouran High School Host Club and Catch You, Catch Me from Cardcaptors Sakura. I find them quite catchy *shrugs*

But I'd say the best intro in my opinion would be Rewrite from FMA. It pwns, in my opinion, especially the short battle scenes.

There were also 4 versions of the song used for the series. One for the original TV animation, one for the 8 episode OVA Yuusha-Oh GaoGaiGar FINAL, and one used for the 12 episode "Re-imagining" of the series Yuusha-Oh GaoGaiGar FINAL Grand Glorious Gathering. Star Blazers (Space Cruiser Yamato) hands down THE best ever!

This series is the godfather of anime in America. If you haven't seen it, you've missed the series that put it all on the map for Americans.

I would say Evangelion. The second FMA was really good and I love the intro from Cowboy Bebop.
Many years ago I used to love the intro from Saint Seiya in Spanish. Everybody in my class knew the entire lyrics and sequence. I miss those days.

Patlabor II, hands down has my favorite intro. The scene with Izumi piloting the test labor is amazing. As for a T.V. series/OVA, I'd say Cowboy Bebop, simply because it lacks the annoying J-pop that is commonly found in anime introductions.

My to favorite openings would be Trigun, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Ghost in the Shell: Sac 2nd gig, and the first opening to Bleach.

My personal favourite are Ninja Scroll: The Series and Hellsing (the original series, not the newer one). Mainly because I really like the music for them.

Most memorable to me is Ergo Proxy's introduction. I haven't seen much anime of late but that is one of the best to me.

Mm...my personal favorite is the Death Note intro (the music is highly addictive for some reason) but the Evangelion intro is also sweet. Furuba's intro isn't too bad either, but it got on my nerves after a while. *shrug* The music is nice, though. (Nice enough that I bought the Single Vocal CD...)

Yeah, my fave Opening Themes are:

Air Opening Theme - It is very pretty, with good graphical effects, introduces you to some of the characters, and is overall very well done, graphically speaking. The music aspect of it, also matches quite well, and sounds good IMO...

Rozen Maiden (Season One) Opening Theme - Not as graphically pretty as Air's, but it has good style, and the music and video mesh very well (the music is good by itself, but is much better when played with the video)

And if I may be permitted, here is my thoughts on one of my fave ending themes...

Utawarerumono Ending - While the opening is good, the ending is somehow...more...Its relatively simple, not a lot of graphical effects, it just has various native american looking painting type things being shown, which depict a story of sorts...the music is very nice IMO...

The Melancholy of Haruhi suzumiya had, in my opinion, the best opening sequence in any anime series. It was just so catchy, and was visually amazing, when I saw the series, I made sure not to skip it, at all.

The animation is unbelievably gorgeous, and the OP song is simply beautiful.
It's the perfect way to introduce the characters and gives you but a taste of what's to come from the entire series.

I really like the Eva opening (probably mentioned a million times by now), I have seen a trailer for Death Note & that song is pretty good (not sure if it is the opening theme tho, its done by japenese band Nightmare). The Melancoly of whosi-who (I'm so sorry, I can't remember the girls name, only found out about it a few days ago) is okay.

I think D.Gray man has the best openings...and endings too. All their songs match the anime quite well.

Lately there are a lot of cool intro's for animes!^^ And most of them come from some JRock bands.

I loved the first Intro to D.Gray-man "Innocent Sorrow" and for Claymore "Raison D'etre". They were done by Abingdon Boy School and Nightmare.
And I really liked the first two opening and ending themes to Naruto Shippuuden. They were really funny.

For me it is the most recent Naruto opening Distance. The music is so far one of my favorite songs for the series' Opening Theme Songs. To sum it up: I like the music--but the animation is a plus.

Blood+ has a bunch of great intros. They are very easy on the eyes, utilizing various art forms and are just plain cool. Each of the songs is good as well.
Elfen Lied is awesome in the sense that it combines opera with gorgeous artwork that is basically that of Gustav Klimt of Vienna. The intro to that is like a cultural experience and I appreciate that.
The intro to the first few episodes of the original kanon with the snowflakes are short and sweet and make me emotional, for what it's worth.

Neon Genesis Evangelion has by far the most catchy opening. It's also just plain awesome. Cowboy Bebop and Excel Saga also have great ones.

Record of Lodoss TV opening is the best of a lot openings I have ever seen.

Funny tho, the anime isn't that good, but that opening was truly awesome.

I just got into anime so it's hard to say which is the best but Serial Experiments Lain is definitely my favorite.

lately, I'm hooked on Eureka Seven's Shounen Heart by HOME MADE KAZOKU, can't get enough of the upbeat.. woot!

There were also many good intros that got me in the mood: Naruto/Naruto Shippuuden, Gundam Seed/Gundam Seed Destiny, Saiyuki Trilogy, FMA XD, Samurai X.. etc..

Just for the record, Link by L`arc~en~Ciel from the FMA movie, The Conqueror of Shamballa was great together with the clips in between ^^

Haven't really watched enough anime to be able to give any proper examples as to what's the best, but so far have really enjoyed the intros to Paranoia Agent, Blood Plus (Season 1) and Wolf's Rain.

Hikaruo No Go - Fantasy (3rd opening theme) really got me remembering it easily.

For me, it's a toss-up between Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, the first Death Note OP, and FMA's Rewrite opening, though I do have to say that I favour Eva and Death Note's just a bit more than the other two as of right now.

If you're talking overall opening, Blood+ 3rd Opening, Colors of the Heart is awesome.
And Sakura Kiss for Ouran is really nice, too.

The best intros I've watched so far are Rahxephon, Saber Marionette J, Nadesico, Lodoss War Chronicles, and I'm pretty sure there are others just that these are the only ones I can muster in my brain right now haha

I thoroughly enjoyed teh Tenchi Universe opening "Love will leave you cryin'" by Sonia, but I also like "Battlecry" by Nujabes & Shing02

The opening theme for Silent Mobius (Kindan no Panse) sounds somehow to me like the quintessential anime opening. Evangelion certainly had a great opening though in terms of visuals.

Cowboy Bebop!!! (mostly because of Tank!) and Excel Saga have my favorites.

Happens to be the last intro to Fullmetal Alchemist. That song Rewrite just gets me so amped! lol The animation itself is beautiful as hell and it really gives you the sense that its coming to a close. The fight sequences too OMG Don't get me started! As an animation major, it was well choreographed to the song. As a matter of fact, I'm bought to go watch it now... And oh yea, I also like the Tenchi Universe series opening which had an upbeat song to it. And cowboy bebop... and NGE... but most importantly FMA son!

I would go for Serial Experiments Lain the whole opening sequence is great and really gives you an idea of what to expect from the show

I hate Death Note, I really do. I don't mean to offend anyone with this.

xD But I loved the opening for the first season. <33 So much. The song, and the way it's orchestrated with the clips.

Detroit Metal City's opening has to be the best, and one of the funniest intros of all time. Seriously, a song that says "I raped my mother" is awesome.

I would say cowboy bebop, because it seems to be the cool thing to do, but im gonna go with Castle of Caligstro (you know that underrated Lupin Movie by the dude who did Spirited away?), very well done and different than most stuff out of japan.

Oh hell yeah! That was an awesome song. What was it? The Undying Flame or whatever? It was brilliant.

But damn, this is a difficult question. It seems like most anime have absolutely kickass opening themes.

But my favourite would probably have to be... Strangely enough, Great Teacher Onizuka, the first opening; Driver's High by L'Arc En Ciel. I have no idea why that song is so damn addictive but it rocks.

Bebop and Champloo both get mentions for how smooth their music is, and just how cool they are in general.

Bonus marks to FMA's Fourth Opening, most of bleach's openings and some of naruto's.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai's intro is one of the best I've seen in a recent anime. It gets you ready for drama, which the show has plenty of.

I really like tsuki no curse from Loveless and the second ending for the first season of xxxHolic, the air guitar was soo cool!

Most anime music openings done by "Yoko Kanno" seem to work.

Damn, this one's tough... Bleach comes to mind. If you heared some of the NANA soundtrack you'd agree that's up there. Even though it sucked, Death Note. Sailor Moon's Japanese version can be on the list. FMA also...

I can't pick one though. Mostly, anything done by Yoko Ishida's good, or HAL, or Orange Range... it's just too tough to call. Take your pick of any of those series on the top, and you'd still come out right.

Inukami...the song by Yui Horie is just wonderful. Plus I like all that's going on in the Intro. Well this is one of the intros I like a lot.

for me it was Fushigi Yugi, Gundam Wing, Ergo Proxy, and Ride back. The intros just really sucked me in and I got really into them :D

I think Bleach was cool for me. Cowboy Bebop and Sailor Moon, too.

the first, second and third for their awesome combination of mythology, kickassery, and SPARTAAAAA.
the hades ones... the first one becuase it made me feel a bit melancholic that after so many years, i was gonna be able to see the end of my favorite series.

the second and third opening of hades are the same for the first 3.

The first opening for Soul Eater was phenomenal....the 2nd opening paled in comparison to it.
The first was so energetic and had humorous/serious moments while showing all of the characters besides Eruka, Free and Mizune.

I really like Soul Eater (1st opening) and Loveless' opening themes right now. Of course, I haven't watched a lot of anime in awhile, so... I'm sure I'm missing out on a lot :)
