tom_1984 is not quite correct, but you're close. Most of these tracks are included in the complete score under different names, with no SFX and some more material. The only track on here not on the complete score in any form is "Ivy's Lullaby", which is a source track ripped straight from the movie. It's basically Byrce Dallas Howard's character singing a simple lullaby...to a crying, grown woman (it makes sense in context). Unfortunately, since it's ripped, there's SFX, as well as jarring sobbing at the beginning of the track.

As for the names of the tracks on this release vs on the complete score, respectively:

"Opening Credits" is "Main Titles". However, "Main Titles" can feature an extra .30 to 1.30 minutes of music, depending on what version of the complete score you have, at the end of the track that's not featured in "Opening Credits".
"Deepest Sorrow, Lucius Hunt" is "You Are Fearless". They're basically the same track.
"They Left More Warnings" is a curious case, being basically an abridged version of two tracks, "Wedding Interrupted" and "Candlelight Procession". It starts at 0.37 minutes into "Wedding Interrupted" and continues to about 1.21 minutes of "Candlelight Procession". Not only that, but the last 20 seconds of "Wedding Interrupted" are overlapped over the beginning of "Candlelight Procession".
"That Is Why I'm On This Porch" is "Ivy's Song" (not to be confused with "Ivy's Lullaby"). "Ivy's Song" has about an extra 25 seconds of music at the end, but "That Is Why I'm On This Porch" has a strange woodwind instrument near the end of the track, which is not included in "Ivy's Song".
"The Elder's Secret" is "Ivy Gets The Watch". "Ivy Gets The Watch" has a slightly longer fade-out and some minor extra instrumentation (some drums near the end of the track).
"It Is All That I Can Give You" is "Edward Confesses". The same cue basically, but "It Is All That I Can Give You" has quite a bit of SFX in it.
"Finale" is "Lucius, I'm Back", although this cue doesn't appear on all versions of the complete score. At first glance, "Finale" also doesn't appear to be on these version of the complete score. However, it's really just a slightly different rendition of a portion of the track "Return" ("The Vote" on the original soundtrack, specifically about 2.14 minutes in) with the main melody from "Ivy's Song". I guess if you're a hardcore completionist, it's a good track to have. Some people even edit it into "End Credits" so they can have a film version of the that lengthy seven minute cue playing over the credits. There's a couple floating around on Youtube, you should check them out.
"End Titles" is "End Credits". Practically identical, as it has been added into the complete score, since the original complete score release didn't have it. Some versions have the tempo of cue slightly sped up, but it's still the same cue.

So, that's the rundown. But before you make your decision to download this let me clarify a few things first.

The main difference between the tracks presented here and the ones on the complete score is SFX. The complete score contains no SFX whatsoever, but this one, while pretty good for a rip (at least, I'm assuming it's a rip), has some minor SFX here and there, as well as some "fuzziness" (most probably artifacts from the DVD audio). The SFX will probably be the biggest reason not to recommend these tracks to people, but personally (and this really comes down to personal preference) I feel that some of the SFX heightens the mood of the music. Particularly in the cue "It Is All That I Can Give You"; those groaning trees at the end of the track really creep me out.

Another thing to take into account is the noise level. The audio volume of the unreleased cues are much louder than the cues in the complete score, so unless you want to keep turning the volume up and down as the score is playing, you're better off sticking with just the complete score. Of course, that might encourage you to use the unreleased cues in place of the identical cues on the complete score, on account of how quiet they are. A big problem with the complete score is how quiet it is mixed, so you might prefer the louder-sounding cues here. Of course, you'll still need to turn the volume way up for the other cues on the complete score.

So, after all's said and done, what should you do? Personally, I ignore these cues, the complete score (it should probably be renamed "the almost complete score") is fine enough as it is, and really is missing only a few minutes of, in my opinion, pretty inconsequential music. The only real reason I would see a person downloading this is for the short finale cue, in which case, check out on Youtube those peeps who combined it into the "End Credits" cue. But, seeing as how it's pretty much already in the complete score, I don't bother.

In the end, it's all up to you, my friends.

Oh, and re-upload, I guess.

EDIT: cleatus356's version of the complete score is so much better than mine. It's mixed much better and has the finale cue without the SFX. In light on this recent upload, there really isn't much reason to get this set of music, but I'll leave it up anyway. But I highly recommend and thank cleatus356's for his awesome upload! Go and grab it while it's hot!

To be honest, I'm not sure. I have had this version for a few years now and can't remember where it came from. I do know that I don't notice the sound issues you mention in your post above...

01 - 01 - Main Title - 1.59

Looks like I've got the short stick compared to you two, cleatus356 and FunnyML. My "Main Titles" is a whole minute shorter than yours. "Lucius, I'm Back" appears to be the "Finale" cue, hopefully mixed better and without SFX. And I'd love just the alternate ending of "Those We Don't Speak Of" instead of having to hear the whole track again. Apart from that, everything else looks the same.

Hmm, I would love to request it from you cleatus, but I see you don't remember where you got it from. An upload, perhaps?

And I'd love just the alternate ending of "Those We Don't Speak Of" instead of having to hear the whole track again. Apart from that, everything else looks the same.

Hmm, I would love to request it from you cleatus, but I see you don't remember where you got it from. An upload, perhaps?

Sure...have it up in a few hours.

The Village Complete Score - James Newton Howard [2004]

CD 1: http://www.mediafire.com/?1wl05z9m656znt6
CD 2: http://www.mediafire.com/?b8j4x25jq54v6pa

One of the most beautifully elegant, soft and mesmerising scores I've ever had the pleasure to listen to. James Newton Howard is tied as my favourite composer in Hollywood, and his collaborations with M. Night Shyamalan very rarely miss. He's also one of the few composers whose works translate very well to complete form, and The Village is one of them, most likely helped by it's short length (for a complete score, that is). Hilary Hahn's solos are certain something the first time you hear them. A high recommendation.

So many alternate artwork have been made for this score, that I've included almost all of them (even the ones where the back covers do not correspond with this release's track list). Enjoy!

EDIT: Updated the links. Minus can no longer be used for filesharing, so moving to Mediafire.

I agree, thank you so much! James Newton Howard is also my favourite composer. His harmonic and melodic development is flawless and is always so captivating and beautiful. He just never ceases to amaze, and The Village is certainly one of, if not his best score. I cannot thank you enough for sharing this wonderful soundtrack :)

Thank you, guys! Coming home to see these great comments really brightened my day. Remember to also thank cleatus356, as he's the original uploaded of this score, who probably deserves more thanks than me. I myself was listening to a much inferior version of the score (really bad mixing lead it to being really quiet, forcing me to turn the volume way up) before he came along and gave us what is in my opinion the best version of this score anywhere.

Agree with you almost completely, firehazard101, although Howard has a broad scope that can lead to some atonally brutal scores which I hesitate to call "beautiful" but are definitely intriguing. But when he wants to do beautiful, he does so with almost always spectacular results. This is pretty much the major reason behind me waiting on bated breath for (hopefully) the eventual releases of The Last Airbender and Treasure Planet in complete forms. Someday...

And Nineteen1900Hundred, how can I win the internet without facing the final boss? In fact...who is the final boss of the internet?

Thanks again for the awesome comments, guys!

Thanks for re-uploading GlassButterflies and sorry to everyone else that it took me so long...been really busy lately. Glad you all enjoy this...it is one of my favorite scores as well. Incidentally, I have been able to locate the Unreleased Cues in lossless (at least it tests out that way in AuCDTect). I still have to give it a listen, but if it sounds better than the lossy rip in this thread I will post.

Big thanks cleatus356 and GlassButterflies, this score is astounding! And I agree GlassButterflies, some of his other scores are a bit hellish to the ears. I often skip the action cues in a lot of them. :P And I think I'd die to hear Treasure Planet and The Last Airbender complete scores too. I wish he received more fame in the industry; he surely deserves it!

Arright . . . you guys have talked me into this one. I believe James Newton Howard is one of the very finest composers working in the industry today. (His King Kong, completed on such short notice, is an unbelievable piece of work.) I haven't listened to this one yet—can't say I was much of a fan of the film—but I'm gonna give it a try. I'll let you know what I think. ;-)
