I compared the XBOX360 and PS3 version and I didn't notice a real difference regarding the music. Both versions uses the same format.
I'll also check the PC version when it will be released.

It seems there are no track names. And it's not as if the task of organization necessarily has to fall to you.

I think some of these are mixed in real time by the game. For instance, track 29 is horns only and it sounds really weird when playing by itself. The melody in that song similar to "This Court Is Now In Session" (which is track 27) so it's probably supposed to be played alongside that one.

That's exactly what I did for Arkham Asylum. Each layer was separated so I had to compare gameplay vids and mix the right layers... took me hell load of time to compile it...

Yes it was pain but atleast it had filenames. Arkham City does not and the only reliable way is to sort by size or length.

To the original poster of this, are you sure you extracted out every single layer from the files?
Because I want to make the complete custom soundtrack to this.

Raziel08
12-05-2011, 09:04 PM
well, first off: big thanks for the effort and the upload. i really enjoyed both the game and the soundtrack of this one.
i only see 3 downsides to this project:
1.lossy compression, therefore only decent soundquality and little room for transcoding
2.no tracknames, which makes it kinda hard to find certain tracks
3.biggest problem: wrong channel mapping

for reason 1 & 2, i am fully aware that its not the uploaders fault, problem is homemade by the developers. proper tagging has been done as it seemed reasonably.

as for 3:
the reason why it sounds odd is that the music is compiled with 5.1 surround sound. since normal soundsystems contains only 2 speakers and one subwoofer eventually, there are instruments missing that are mapped to channels other than the front channels. therefore the music sounds dull/thin or incomplete.
thats why i re-encoded the whole files to normal redbook standard, meaning:

5.1 surround -> 2 stereo
48kz -> 44,1khz
with 16bit depth

now it should sound much better and should be playable on portable players and hifi systems. there will be no quality loss. frequencies are capped anyway, they were never even close to touch the 48khz mark. additionally i converted them to a high quality bitrate to rule out any re-encoding errors.

again, i do not meant to bitch about this. just wanted to share this awesome soundtrack in best possible quality with you, since some of you were wondering about the sound.

So you have not compiled layers then? from what im hearing you still have them seperated.
i am not sure what you mean by layers. maybe it is just a different term you use instead of the term "channels" i prefer to use.
clearly the music files are compiled to 5 channels (layers in your speaking), but in one file. you can check it up with any decent audio creation application.

i know that there are some games out there that use a mix-together-on-the-fly music system, like mass effect for example. that way fewer music files are used (lower disk space needed) and music will change more smoothly and fluent according to the ingame situation. this is not the case in arkham city, as far as i know.

as i see to it, uploader did the right job in ripping the files to ogg. but then again missed the last step by joining the channels/layers to make them stereo in the end.

Many to thx to Raziel for fixing the sound quality. It sounds nearly-lossless when coverted to WAV with dBpoweramp.

As of now, I've decided to start the complete score with my favourite theme from the game... BANE!!
LOL, the guy who made the original rip has scattered Bane's theme across the 326 tracks! One layer is track 44, the other is 55, another is track 24... and I can't find the 4th layer. Guys, are there 3 layers or 4 layers used to make the songs?

Once I'm done with each track individually I'll post it onto my YouTube so you'll can view my progress of it. :)

1. Have a look at 11, 12, 29 and 50. Those are supposed to be the 4 layers, right? Well, one layer has horns and another has the exact same horns mixed with else from the same song... It's alright, it just sounds the same.

2. Bane's theme: what's the difference between 278 and 305?
3. Main Theme: Between 01 and 05, is there something missing?
4. Did no. 85 have 4 layers or is it just one song? I know it's a remix of the "Overworld Combat" track from Asylum but I wanted to re-make it in better quality... :(

So far, that's all I know, other tracks I've sorted out and arranged them according to the official score album names for easier ID...

Also, most puzzling, I reached Crime Alley last night and have been looking for the song that plays when Hugo Strange gives the whole "how does it feel, wayne?" monologue... can't find it in the files... argh... maybe I need to search your files instead the other guys OJ...

Yes OJ, I got the cutscenes and I have to admit, excellent job on ripping them, but tbh, Rocksteady don't know the difference between SFX volume and music volume... I expected to have absolutely no SFX with the cutscenes in this game... :(

How do I split the channels? Will Sony VEGAS help me out? Or do I have to use Audacity? Because I use GoldWave for all my mixing...

Audacity just load it up and then drag and drop the cutscene file and it will show six mono channels. There you can actually order the channels and export them like a regular 2ch stereo track. However you might not need the other channels, just the 2 fron channels which usually is the loudest and most visual of the channels.

Cool! And thx!

EDIT:
Scoreman, you do realise that there's an official score album available, right? The first couple of tracks are on the official CD, and "Bruce Wayne, Captured" is SFX free on the album, called "A Monument to Your Failure"...
Will give the others a listen later...

Do hope you have the other songs in order, I can compile the actual complete soundtrack once I'm done listening to your rip...

Fully aware of the opening tracks of the official release and yes! apart from monument of failure, the rest of the tracks are not as heard as in the game (apart form themain menu theme)

'Sorry Boys' is missing the opening sequence, the first 26 seconds of the intro! Which mine has (SFX Free)
'Have you got my location' has missing instrumentation that is present in the game!

So really the only beneficial track is the monument to failure! track :)

I am almost done with Disc 2 so will make that avail to yourself once completed! But I am doing a complete too whereby all you will really gain from listening to mine is a track name (that i would have created) and a chronological order *as I play the game* which may not be as everyone plays it - AS they may do side quests different to mine!

I have also given to O.J. 4 extra tracks that I ripped from Ron Fish' site from the game, that I will put on the tail end of the commercial release to make an Expanded release of the commercial and add as the last disc to my rip! along with any other tracks I find from Nick or Ron!

the 4 tracks are.....

Ras Al Ghul
Ras Al Ghul Hallucinations
The Mad Hatter
They Call Me Clayface (Just called Clayface Boss) on the site

The first 27 seconds is not on the OST. That's why I asked. The album version starts from 0:29 in the cutscene. And I'm making this as close to a Recording Sessions as possible, so I'm separating the cutscene from the combat track.

What length is the layer?

They are all supposed to be 47 seconds in length and there's also different layers from different songs which are 47 seconds each. :(
Listening to the YT rip a guy has posted with all the layers and trying to identify them.
And the "Sorry, Boys" thing, is included on your rip OJ. I just found it. They put both Album and gamerip versions in the files.

I've only found (from the other guys files) 124 & 125 are part of the same song for Solomon Grundy. No others... there are 4 layers in that song.

Thanks so much for this but I noticed there were a lot of loops.

I tend to do my rips, not so much with looks, as i rip from the game as i play, no looping, no accessing layers... What i do is rip themusic from the game whilst playing then edit it in Audition after. The length of the tracks are reminiscent to the gamplay and edited for a more cinematic approach!! If you prefer no looping, then getting the music as The VGM Legacy do it, is your best bet :)

Some tracks can be named via the original score track names.

I will play through the game & listen to this rip and try my best to name the tracks. If I take my time and/or am not 100% accurate (one or both of which will probably happen), please do not be harsh on me as I'd imagine there's lots of tracks & a long game to play through. I just have to wait for it to come first. Ordered regular, as it non collector's edition for 360 since I bought the Bundles for Catwoman, Robin, Nightwing & the score from iTunes (didn't care for Album) before ordering the game. Should be coming sometime next week.

If I should need help, I will ask for it.

For anyone who has listen to the score completely, is there anything at all, big or small, missing that can be found in the Album or this rip? Usually official releases miss something. Speaking of the rip, anyone who's played the game completely including Catwoman, side missions, Challenge Maps, Riddler Campaigns, and everything else the game has, is this rip complete or does a custom OST have to be made?

Regardless if it is complete or not or how it sounds, appreciate the effort. Thanks :)

Asylum had GREAT music, no question. But City tops that IMO especially with the Main Title music that I think plays in the game during some fights.

Sampled the game a bit so I know little about it.

I have already done this, I am about 3 tracks from completion (i wont spoil it for you) But i am missing some Riddler Music and another side mission i have yet to complete. I have come up with about.

I have 162 tracks thus far of in game music totalling around 9 hours and 20 minutes of music - With the missing music i am waiting on getting, i guess there will be approx 10 hours total! - I have played some of the Map music, which has a different variant of the in-game music.

The Commercial release (iTunes) I would say benefits on 1 level only - It has 2 of the Cutscene pieces - I. A Monument to Your Failure & II. It's Not Even Breakfast. The rest of the tracks are variants of the In-Game music - Mixes if you like! I have placed this as Disc 9 on my *Box Set* with the Various Artists album being Disc 10 and with the help of the Thread Starter and their layers from their rip, i will be painstakingly going through all the layers and making a single track layer (although this does not represent a true sound of the In-Game music either) as certain tracks meld together to make an original track!

I am sorry, but i do not understand you when you ask about the Rip being complete. I cannto vouch for NC's rip,. although i am sure it will be well put together piece! Mine, on the other hand, Is complete by the terms of how the music plays in the game; there is no way of getting the cutscene music completely free of SFX - Apart from the 2 I have mentioned, in mine the remainder of the cutscenes; Albeit free of Dialogue, will have the Sound Effects... Which sometimes actually heightens the listening pleasure.

I am currently having custom made artwork designed by a good friend for my rip, so once I am happy with my rip and the artwork is complete, I will make a seperate thread to this one as this one seems to have been hijacked, slightly!

I like to think i am pretty hot with track titles.. I have named certain tracks with my rip to quotes from Burton's Batman and Batman Returns! - I try not to rename my titles with the titles of the commercial release - as I like to be original! And sometimes, especially with this commercial and the names of the tracks, don't always marry up with the section of the game the piece represents!

I hope to have my rip done and uploaded before you receive your game, so to be honest, unless you are planning on ripping it for personal use anyway, i would just play the game and enjoy it (as I intend to once i have finished) Don't rip the game music for the sake of it! You ruin the game that way as you have to play the game without the voice and dialogue! and of course the gameplay consists of a specific fighting style, which i am sure you are aware of from the first game, where you build up hits and combos! Enjoy it!

Whoa! That's awesome!

Really got it (Original Score) for my favorite song (so far right now) the Main Menu/Title track

What I meant was if every bit of music will be present. I understand about the cutscene music.

Hijacked how? I will not ask you to name names of those who hijacked it to prevent problems between members as there is NO NEED for that whatsoeever.

Interesting. But do they (Titles) fit the game?

I do not do rips. I was merely saying I was gonna download the rip the first uploader had (till I read the comments regarding how it sounds, but may just keep the Main Title track from his rip if I do download it as I want all versions of that song lol) & then go through the game while listening to his rip to identify the songs and name them. I have no intentions of ripping it as there are far better rippers than me and I have no problems admitting that. I hope to hear your & Firebolt's finished product as I am sure they will greatly compliment the effort you two put into your respective rips.

I will enjoy the full game as I enjoyed sampling it as a friend's house to get a a glimpse of what I'm in for. From what I hears and read.....longer than Asylum....long and more in-depth story.....Robin & Nightwing playable in Challenge Maps as well as Catwoman playable in story & challenge maps (bought them before ordering the game).....Alfred.....alternate costumes (just bought that today)......many villains. I also read the entire game takes place in one night? WOW! What's not to love? Also saw pics of the Bell Tower (a throwback to Burton's 1989 Batman film) & cats surrounding Catwoman (a throwback to Batman Returns although in the game, she was ins costume while in Returns, she was not as she had not become Catwoman yet). No offensive to the voice work, I do wish other remembered voices returned.....it's a given Kevin Conroy will be Batman & Hamill will be Joker, but Michelle as Selina, Elfrem as Alfred, etc and that vehicles (Batmobile, Batplane, Bat-boat, Bat-cycle being the 4 I'd wanna use personally for necessities & I think you can figure where those necessities are. Fire example: Bat-Boat in water, Plane in air......to chase villains and.or keep them from escaping you and.or the place) will be used in the game and & they'll be times where you need to operate them. Perhaps in another game where that is needed as in Asylum & City, not needed during gameplay

To you & Firebolt: Cannot wait for the finished product and thank you for this endeavor!

@Firebolt: Heard what you uploaded on YT! Sounds excellent! Love to comment there honestly, but unfortunately do not have a YT account. But in all seriousness, not to suck up but what I heard is so great, I might get one just to comment on them.

First one of the DC Universe portion could be taken out or at least shrunken to an appropriate size. I mean we know Batman is part of the DC Universe already lol. It's just that logo was used for the DC Universe Online game for PS3 so it doesn't make sense for it to be on the Arkham CIty soundtrack cover unless it can be of appropriate size & it just looks too big & too noticeable right now.

The second one isn't bad looking either though.

Thought I could help. Found these on Google Images

These two has him on the gargoyle like Firebolt wanted with the DC logo shrunk down to appropriate size. It's just missing the composer's names (same thing but first one is bigger size -

Firebolt: If anyone knows how to use Photoshop, they can photoshop the logo out. I think in the gargoyle pics I gave, the logo isn't as big as the one in your gargoyle pic so I still don't see your problem. I mean, does it really matter if the company logos are on there if they're small & don't take up too much of the pic? I don't think you'll find one w/o a logo especially not this soon considering you're after a specific pic (Batman standing on gargoyle) if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah I have PS, i made both covers with it. :)
I'll try to get rid of the logo on the first one and find a better logo to replace it.

Maybe you should give some thought into just getting rid of the logo and that's it. Who's gonna care if there isn't a logo? In asking that, I'm referring to of course the DC Universe logo that's presently there. Honestly, I think the cover arts that I have seen w/o logos (and I have seen some good ones) look pretty damn good without them.

@NCFirebolt21: Did you ever get to start or finish the custom Arkham City OST? Or are you not doing it at all? Don't blame you if you don't. It's a ton of work.

If you could reupload the files, that would be awesome. Downloading them off of Youtube is a pain. I love this soundtrack, and your work has been wonderful.
