In every thread i read, i always find a handful of people who actually hated Sephiroth. I'm just wondering, why do people hate that character? I think he's pretty bad ass IMO. But a mama's boy at the same time lol

Hello there,and welcome to the forum.

I find that a lot of people actually dislike the characters,but are sick of squeenix simply milking ff7 and its characters.
Also:The fanboys from the series give the characters a bad name,and they are sick to death of hearing about how great cloud and sephiroth are.

In all honesty:I thought sephiroth was a better character than cloud,but i'm one of those who doesn't like either enough.

I can't really speak for everybody,but for me:I simply can't stand the fanboys themselves who worship ff7 and cloud and sephiroth,and i get sick people trying to shove it down my throat.One thing i found:Was during the game i wanted to ditch cloud,and replace him with sephiroth.

To sum it up:

FFVI Fans: Hipsters
FFVII Fans: Fanboys

FFS is full of FFVI fans and they scare off FFVII fanboys or people that like the game to be their fauvorite FF game.

Sephiroth's Mama's Boy or Cloud's Emo is the classic FFVII haters slash.

If you like the game, just ignore this kind of views and focus on some of the real arguments that can be found on this forum. There are pretty interesting guys here with very open minded views about the series intricacies and all that jazz.

Be mindful though, you have a fair share of assholes too.

Fanboys made their fame so whenever someone comes saying that VII is their Favorite or the Best FF game, they'll get attacked instantly or immediately forced under the Fanboy category. Because, sadly... The most common kind that likes FFVII is the Fanboy type.

Quite true that,but there are some who love ff7 and say they put ff6 right up there next to it,or backwards:FF6 their favorite and ff7 second.

I've read some comments,some not a huge amount that call kefka a joker ripoff.

I got nasty flame mail from a troll on youtube who spams videos on youtube trolling about a person on youtube named anonymousxxxxxx,and his idiot followers go screaming that other guys name trolling him,while anon also has a bunch of people who are on his side and hate ff7 and the fanboys.
Anyways,i got trolled once by 2 guys at a time,and then i left.I tried to convince him nicely last time to stop trolling and show how immature and stupid he was acting,but he was too stubborn and continued to troll.

FF1 was a great game for its time for an example,and my first rpg and i love it,and hardly anyone ever talks about it.

Most of the time,people just want to talk about 6,7,8 9&10.At times,just 7-XIII,and only so much can be said about such games.How much is there to discuss about ff6? What is there to figure out? the identity of gogo? What about ff7? its been talked to death about.

If you read The Killing Joke of Batman and investigate Kefka's so called "backstory". It is pretty much the FF's Joker.
And the guy is so stupid and evilly cartoonish that he managed to make me hate the quite a good portion of the game.

The best way to stop trolls is by laughing at them, and not giving reasons to them to keep doing that.

I could say the same about FFI from the NES, how much is there to discuss about that game?
It's awesome, but it's very limited on it's content, with it's very own and completely fundamental reasons.

That's why people speak a lot more of the later games, because the have more material to put into exposition.

Oh, and don't get me in a middle of a FF9 conversation, I'll get pretty irritable, because I fucking hate that game. xD

And I know, people should stop talking about FFVII, but Square always gives a reason for people to keep talking about it man, with all it's milked franchise.

Now the same will happen with XIII apparently, 4 FFXIII games are confirmed.

Kefka was very clever.
He sneaked in and poisoned doma and makes the perfect character to hate.
Just because you don't like kefka,doesn't mean his character wasn't clever and well developed.


Kefka was far more vicious than sephiroth ever was.Sephiroth may have had this creepy thing going on cause he was mentally unstable,but kefka had presence,because he actually did his own dirty work,and spent most of the time on the screen.
Now hojo was one hell of a sick bastard.If you compare sephiroth to hojo,sephiroth has nothing on hojo,because it is his fault that sephiroth became who he was.I feel that ff7 tries to rationalize too much,and in so:makes the villain less villainous.

Thats not to say of course,that kefka couldn't have had more backstory,he could have.But i feel there were other villains who did a better job at being actual villains who you felt contempt for.For one thing,i felt contempt for queen brahne when she was a greedy bitch,not because she had some tragic emo backstory and the game designers try to tell you what to think,instead of making the villain hated.

I hated and was creeped out at the same time by hojo,and i felt contempt for him.He was totally self involved.
I feel that just because a villain has a tragic past,doesn't mean you are allowed to suffocate a puppy for an example,or:Burn down a house.If you had a tragic past and you are a psychopath,it could turn you into a serial killer,because it would nurture your psychopathic tendencies.

As for ff7 talk:The problem isn't as much talking about it,as a lot of people(not all) go on and on praising it and then rubbing it in other people's faces,and will say:OH! this game has top most marketed game,therefor its the best game ever.Your game is in number 60.My response of course,is:So what? Just because it sells a lot doesn't make it the best.There are movies that are underground that are great and don't sell that well,because they are not popular or known amongst most people.

FF6 is known,so it gets credit.But how many people know about the game:Wasteland? its the predecessor of fallout series.

Is ff7 bad? no,on the contrary.But i do feel that sometimes both ff6 and ff7 may get too much credit,more often ff7 overshadows ff6 and games like ff9 and ff5.Once,i heard someone say that its a bad sign when a game divides its fanbase amongst games.I don't think this is necessarily true,because people will like different games in different ways.I for an example,like narratives and being able to talk to towns people to bring out the story of the characters and the game.I feel that it feels more naturally paced in bringing out the story.

I still to this day don't know if the last boss was Jenova or Sephiroth. (I don't care what the developers revealed later, the game leaves it up for grabs). So thats why I don't like him that much. He's better than FF9s last boss and FF4s last boss though. I liked Yu Yevon from 10 the best.

i'm not l33t or hardcore about the games.
i started playing when when 7 came out and stopped playing when they did X-2.

I love Sephiroth.
Cloud is cool.

aren't you afraid that you might miss out on great games?

I heard about 12 possibly being good,but i haven't played it.I'm going to check out a lets play of 12 one of these days.

my ps2 is in need of attention.
and i dont have a ps3.

the last "recent" game i've played is on my brothers xbox360: Modern Warfare 2

I played the demo for modern warfare 2 i think it was.It was fun for a while,but not really my type of game.
I liked the whole mountain climbing thing and chase down the hill thing at full velocity.

As for newer games:you can get FFXII for ps2,and FFXIII for Xbox360,you do know that right?
I don't know what the difference is either.

Also:Not to tease you or anything,but you can download ff7 from psn network for ps3.
If you ever scratched your cd,and think:OH MAN!! 100 bucks or more for 1 game,then you can just download it from psn network and play it.Also:I heard of a posibility of ff7 remake on ps3.

Thanks guys for the replies, and i respect all of your opinions. I can't lie to you guys, i always liked FF7 the most. NOT BECAUSE OF CLOUD AND CHARACTERS LIKE THAT! if you want to talk about characters i actually liked FF8 characters more, or better yet i believe XenoGears had THE BEST CAST!(imo), but the thing what attracted me to FF7 was when they actually were working on the storyline, they made it pretty open ended, which means they could actually continue the series without having this awkward moment of "wtf? how are they going to continue this shit?" lol but i could completely understand why you guys are fed up with Sephiroth/Cloud, because even when people don't have much of a FF background, they just bring those two and claim they are the "best". I liked Sephiroth in Crisis Core more than the original, when he was a hero he looked pretty bad ass. But come to think of it, he was a whining bitch in the first game lol. But i'll do what some of you guys have mentioned, about staying away from the trolls. This really does remind me of Super Street Fighter 4 fan boys, or Daigo fanboys( Daigo being one of the best street fighter players in the world) when they compare it to the old Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike game =S . I kinda go through this shit alot, so its okay with me (Y) kinda used to it ;)
