i have seen this flick on the big screen primarily due to the fact that at that time there's so much hype going around about this film, can't remember how the film was by now but what i do recall is it really made me dizzy enough to make me decide to just get out rather than finished the film. back then i'm not into film score yet so this could be a good way to get acquainted not with the film but with the score, lol...

this sure is a rare find, thanks Tak! :D

Thanks :)

Its definitely one of mine, too. I dont understand the hatred about it. Its genuinely creepy and superbly well-made. The audio commentary offers you so much insider info too, you really appreciate the work that went into it.

Agreed. I love this movie, and many others shot in the "found footage" format. The "Curse of the Blair Witch" Sci-Fi Channel special, which is on the DVD, is also pretty superb.

Totally. Very well acted, it appears completely genuine aside from the Parr footage which appears a bit dodgy but the rest is amazing.

Whenever I watch the movie, I always watch "The Curse of the Blair Witch" beforehand; it's great stuff.

I didn't like this movie too much.
I mean, I could still watch it.
It had really good ideas and can see why the trend caught on about it's filming style (lost footage).

I really like there's no music in it though.
Makes me want to edit in some Silent Hill or Shutter Island music ^___^

would have loved if the composer did an album of "Blair Witch Inspirations" of "score that would have been".

Kinda pointless dont you think, for film thats meant to be real? :P

I think The Cellar is an amazingly scary piece of sound design work. The alternate mixes on the trailers work so well with the screams... <shivers>

Watching movies like this in a theater is a completly different experience that on home video. I was 15 years old and it scared the living sh*t out of me...

This is kind of nostalgic for me. Thanks!!!

I was so disappointed with the last half of that movie.
What I liked about Blair Witch is that a lot of it was offscreen.
The mind had it's fun guessing.

Really enjoyed the trailer to Cloverfield.
Then it walks on screen and it's just...just...
"America's Godzilla" they called it.

I agree about watching "The Curse of the Blair Witch" documentary before watching the actual movie. It puts you in the mood and the Rustin Parr stuff is creepy. It still freaks me out even now but I'm an easy scare. Thanks for this!

For me, I find anything psychologically-based works better than visual stimuli. The first time I saw Blair Witch I was, amazingly, naive to the whole thing. I hadnt seen any trailers or had it spoilt, I thought it was real footage. I had no idea it was all acted. Not only are they 1000% convincing, the actors were listed as "missing" on the IMDb at the time of release. At the very least I was maybe thinking "Could this film be real? God, I hope it isnt". But I just couldnt tell. Afterwards I was really shook up, first time I saw it.

Part of what made this an experience for me was the pre-hype that the film had, along with the website which was great for
discussion. A lot of people thought it was real or thought it was a hoax. I remember with Justin, Heather, and Mike made their appearance on the Tonight Show it was a huge deal. The audience marked out for them big time. I think they were really
overwhelmed with the success of the movie.

Funny story. The night I saw the movie with my best friend I was scared well...you know...and I stayed up all night. I slept
over at his place and was up all night on the computer discussing the movie lol...then all of a sudden I heard footsteps
outside the window as it was open and it scared me so bad I fell right out of the chair and woke up my friend! No movie has scared me as badly as "The Blair Witch" has and in particular it is the final scene with Mike standing in the corner that does itto me and Heather screaming.

For my blog, I wrote a round-up of all (or most) of the found footage movies coming out in the next year or so, and I wrote a little retro on Blair Witch to kick it off.

I invite you to read it when you get a chance: Filtered Reality (http://the-end-of-summer.blogspot.com/2011/07/filtered-reality.html)

Add to your discussion - you should keep in mind that the frist film working with this pseudo-documentary style (commonly known as found footage) was Ruggero Deodatos infamous Cannibal Holocaust, 20 years before Blair Witch!
