My favorite songs in no particular order from ff9:

Loss of me:I love the scene where beatrix and steiner join together and fight enemies, and you see how powerfull she is with her stockbreak and what was the name of that other technique she uses a lot? Plus its kinda brave of a song and honorable.Oh damm i'm laughing my ass off now because i can see the serious face of steiner combined with the love letter he got from beatrix.

Black mage village:Epic tune.I love entering this village and listening to this tune
Bran bral souless village:Really beautiful and sad.One of the last games to truly make me feel sad.

Vamo alla flamenco:Great tune KWEH!!

Burmecia theme:Another beautiful theme that is depressing as hell, right now i don't feel like listening to it.

Dali village:Its so peaceful that the music captures the feel perfectly of the village.Reminds me of FF2 ds remake of the nes game with its villages.

Melodies of Life and Final Fantasy is probably my favourite from the FFIX OST - it's just such a beautiful yet sad song which fitted the ending perfectly, with Emiko Shiratori's haunting vocals really suited it's melancholy tone. And including the traditional theme Final Fantasy right at the end only enhances it even more. I'll love this piece forever. :D

Really, I love the great majority of the FFIX OST - there are far far too many tracks to list here, as it's my second favourite of Uematsu's works after his FFVI OST, but Melodies of Life can stand as it's representative for me. ;)

I heard that ff9 was supposed to be a tribute to fans of ff6,is that true?
I heard that some songs were even similar.

I think this is an interesting thing, since i liked ff9 far more than the last 2 games.

Actually, FFIX was a tribute to all the FF games that preceeded it, and Uematsu's soundtrack was no exception, featuring numerous cues to past FF games. And yes, not only were some tracks simillar to earlier games (like Lindblum owing more than a passing nod to FFIV's Fabul), a couple of tracks were actually directly taken from earlier titles and remixed for FFIX (FFI's Gulug Volcano, FFVII's Rufus's Welcoming Parade, FFIII's Let Me Know the Truth).

Either way, it was a first class soundtrack which is also interestingly Uematsu's own personal favourite. ;)

Black Mage Village is and will always be my favourite FFIX track, though there are so many good ones. It's just above and beyond the rest for me.

You Are Not Alone.

Seriously. no one mentioned this?

It is (IMO) one of the best Final Fantasy songs ever.

Just that moment in the game=sheer awesomeness.
That song matched that awesomeness.

And Battle 1. I loved getting into battles because this theme would play!

Border Village Dali - Cause it's so light and breezy <3 and for some reason reminds me alot of FF8.. might be just me though.

Dark Messenger - Because it's so dark and mysterious yet strong. Perfect for a boss battle.

A Face Unforgotten - Really feels like two emotions at once, torn between them. Like Freya must've felt.

Bittersweet Romance - Title says all.

Agh, the soundtracks in IX were all just so awesome! Can't choose !

If I ever get married, I want to walk down the aisle to the piano version of Melodies of Life.

I'm also rather fond of The Place I'll Return To Someday.

Melodies of Life - Distant Worlds II orchestral concert version (I prefer the arrangement and Susan Calloway's vocals)

The Place that I will Return is Hero's favorite song (hope that's the right name).

Kitty hasn't played IX but if one were to guess the best guess would be the song Dagger sings at the castle (don't know name, sorry)

You are Not Alone.

One of the best scenes, and the music goes along with it so well.

vivi's theme (i.e. alexandria). easily one of my top three of all ff themes, ever. it is an incredible composition and one of the finest i believe uematsu ever put down on paper. i have casey ormond's piano arrangement of it and it (which preserves and transfers much of the complexity to the piano quite effectively vs the standard simplified published reductions). it is so incredibly complex in terms of the ever shifting tonal centers, almost diatonic at times and it would work well as program music since it is so evocative.

(Are you aware that "Loss of Me" is a mistranslation? It's "Rose of May")

Well, Final Fantasy IX is the best ff soundtrack it's so hard to chose but I'd say my favorites are:

- Melodies of Life
- Rose of May
- Decisive Action - Search for the Princess
- Freya's Theme
- Endless Sorrow
- Eternal Harvest

That's either "The Place I'll Return To Someday" or "A Place To Call Home." A Place To Call Home English title, I believe, and The Place I'll Return To Someday is the literal. I love it, too. And the one Dagger sings in the Castle is Melodies of Life. :)

Actually, it's simply called Song of Memory, but you are correct though as it is indeed an arrangement of Melodies of Life. They're beautiful tracks none the less. :)

I beat the game some hours ago!!!

Vamo Alla Flamenco - El Zorro!
Court Jesters - Money, Money, Money by Abba :D
Battle 1 - It sounds fantastic (Final Fantasy? :P), the second best battle theme, FFIV got the best one.
Fanfare - The best arrangement for... Fanfare, duh.
Over the Hills - It makes me think of a dawn.
A Song from her Memory - It sounds so beautiful, it would be amazing if a mother sing this song to her baby ;.;
Rose of May - Sweet and lonely Beatrix: Awww...
Something to Protect - Noble and brave Beatrix: Ol!
Crystal World - The best arrangement for Prelude.
The Darkness of Eternity - Wow! Starts with that imponent sound and then everything goes crazy.
The Final Battle - The beggining is the most disturbing VGM I ever heard and Necron is the best final boss ever!
Melodies of Life - Over the Hills + A Song from her Memory... what else do you want? ;)

Well, good to know! I like knowing these kind of things, especially because once I get married I'll be walking down the aisle to it. :)
