I just faced a cactuar who turned into a jumbo cactuar.

Holy shit is this guy annoying. He jumps around taunting me as he curses me.

So:what is the most annoying enemy for you guys?

I heard:The big Neochu is really really hard, and annoying to kill.
I also heard that tonberrys are very very hard, and can full heal and debuff the debuffs and reset the atb gauge.

The Neochu can be instant killed by Vanille's Death spell, so it really isn't very hard. Of course, if you try to take it on without using Death, it and its litle helpers are very annoying indeed. The jumbo catuar (the proper one - i.e the Mark one that does 10,000 needles) is pretty irritating too, because his attack is so damaging and he attacks very quickly indeed.

To be honest though, there were very few enemies who were seriously annoying. Some obviously cannot be tackled unless you have done major grinding, but with a bit of common sense, you can beat foes who are vastly more powerful than you. But as I say, there is a limit past which you just cannot win until you really buff your stats up.

Cid Raines from the main story is probably a more intricate and demanding fight on a moment by moment basis than any of the Marks, actually. There aren't really any bosses like him in the side quests. The Undying Mark at the end of the Titan trials in the Faultwarrens is probably the closest, and that is a very long, arduous (but fun) battle.

Tonberrys aren't too bad in this game. There is one hilarious scene involving a Tonberry though (you'll know it when you see it), so they still make their mark on the game.

I remember the tonberries from ff6 and ff5.

I think the ff5 ones might be more annoying than the ff5 ones, because of how the game is built.
I've seen people have trouble with barthandalu, but honestly:I found cid raines to be harder.

What really annoyed me,was that he could so easily debuff himself and rebuff himself, making him one of the fastes buffers and debuffers. And he hits hard.

For my money, Cid is the hardest boss in the game. At the time you meet him, you have just had the 3rd Crystarium expansion when the prices skyrocket, and there are only fairly low Exp baddies on the route to Cid. So you don't get much of an opportunity to power up, and access to decent components and money in Fifth Ark is scarce for upgrading your gear as well.

And the fact is, he is really tough because he has Paradigm changes (which most bosses don't really have). Along with Barthandelus, he is a real wake up call boss. Square Enix admitted that this is the point in the game where they expected any remaining casual gamers to give up, because Chapters 9 and 10 os when the game moves from Friendly to Hardcore.

And Tonberrys rule - good old Don Tonberry from FFX was my sparring partner many times!

Cid was the hardest boss in the game and the jumbo cactuar was near possible. But if I do recall, it can fall victim to Vanille's Death limit break (I know that's not the real name but that is what it is essentially.)

Tonberries were hard at first but you just have to experiment strategies in order to find out how to kill them in the quickest way possible.

Moving back to Cid, it took me a couple of times to take him down, and I had to consistently switch to a defensive paradigm. I barely spent time on offense. But as long as I could heal myself and not take too much damage it was fine.

Also sabotaging him was a great idea, even though he could dispel them.

I don't remember exactly how I beat him, it was a while ago, but I did it and realized the battle was a lot easier if I just used the correct paradigm changes and strategy.
