Welcome to my Final Fantasy Locations knockout game! I have 135 locations from Final Fantasy I to Final Fantasy XIV, and Final Fantasy Tactics all meshed in and spat out to form battles. What is the best location in the series? You decide! (This is very cheesy I know... )

Here's the rules:

1. To vote, simply check what location is paired with another and reply with your favourite location in each roundup, preferably in a column format.
2. When a round finishes, if there are any tiebreakers, I'll post them up at the end. Tiebreakers are to be decided by listing them, and asking the question again about who is their favourite, the first response wins the tiebreak (eg. if the tiebreaker was Nibelheim vs Balamb Garden, and the first poster to respond chooses Nibelheim, Nibelheim goes through to the next round).
3. Round 1 has 64 fights to it. Because 135 doesn't work into 64, there are 7 battles where there are three locations matched for the place in Round 2.
4. Where possible, these locations are randomised against each other. The only time I intervene is when two from the same game are paired, although as the rounds go on this may get difficult. I use the "Rand" formula on Microsoft Excel to help keep these matches random.
5. I'll keep these rounds open for around a week but it depends on the reception, this forum can go slow at times.
6. Because Round 1 has 64 battles, I'll split it into four sections (so you'll see 16 battles today, 16 in the next update etc). Round 2 will have 32 battles and I'll split that into two sections. Round 3 onwards will be posted in the complete forms.
7. Don't take this seriously, it's just a bit of fun. By all means debate why you love or hate certain locations, and it can be because something important happened in that location, or because it looks so good, but please be respectful of other's feelings of those same locations.

I've incorporated pictures in this, although it was difficult for some locations, and some of the pictures aren't of good quality. By all means if you can find a better picture than the ones presented, let me know and I'll definitely swap them.

Without further delay, here's Round 1A!

Kefka's Tower (cool music (The Final Dungeon), oppressive post-apocalyptic architecture, hard enemies, and of course, the insane clown at the end of it. Windswept grass fields and the belly of a floating whale can't compare. ;)
Treno (the legendary city of night is just a fun place to visit in FFIX. It's also rather sad how the nobles live in luxury literally on the door step of skid row. And it has a hilarious series of ATEs set there too.)
The Federation of Windurst (of course I'm going to vote for my character's beloved home in FFXI. Windy for ever! :D)
Zozo (like Treno, the city of lies is such a fun place to visit, but for difference reasons. The cool rain outside (amazing for the time, it was an effect the SNES was well known for), the funky music (Slam Shuffle), the simple yet effective clock puzzle with the lying NPCs, and, somewhat out of place amongst the other mostly neo-medieval towns in the game, it featured tall residential towers too.)
Phantom Train (there's a pattern here - FFVI is my favourite FF game and I'm also a train buff as well, so it all comes together. The carrier of the dead was a really interesting part of the game, from having some of the postmortem passengers temporarily joining your party as a guest, to battling the locomotive as a boss, to of course, the finale at the terminus. A sad and poignant scene which I won't spoil for those who haven't played it. And of course, Uematsu's score (Mystery Train) is naturally excellent.)
Vlybrand (I had to stop and think about where exactly Vlybrand is in FFXIV, when I remembered it's the name of the island that Limsa Lominsa is located on, so I definetely vote for this one. If only for the fact Limsa Lominisa and it's connection zone La Noscca both have some of my favourite Uematsu pieces of all time as their backing music (Navigator's Glory and On Windy Meadows respectively). Good stuff. :)).
Troia (The city of beauty wins for me. It has a nice, relaxing design, it's music is sweet and melodious, and it's ruled by an order of female oracles, a rare example of a matriarchal society in RPGs. And the hotel in the town was kind of like a forerunner to the infamous Wall Market later in FFVII with it's debauchery, cross dressing and prostitution - which was toned down considerably in the SNES version.)
Balamb Garden (A unique area in the series, it really did feel like a functioning school/military academy, with it's various areas dedicated to differing operations of Garden. And of course, the battle of the Gardens needs no introduction either.)
Lindblum (Funnily enough, Lindblum has references to Fabul in IX, from musical cues in Lindblum Castle, to Regent Cid's surname, Fabool. But it's the city itself that I like. FFIX's 'big city', it's a wonderland of technology and culture, and I just loved exploring around the city when I first arrived there, riding the aircabs around and around. It's just a pity a significant portion is destroyed during the game and remain off limits after that. Still, it's one of my favourite FF places, and presumably provided the basic design for the city of Jeuno in FFXI).
Floating Castle/Flying Fortress (Completely at odds with the rest of FFI's high-fantasy setting, it also wins by being the location of Warmech, the very first superboss in the series (and still rock hard even after all this time).
Luca (it has a cool music track, and was a quite interesting place in design, if you ignore the stupid Blitzball Stadium which seems to dominate the place. I always felt cheated though that it was shown to be far larger than the small section you can explore in the game, typical of RPGs).
Esthar City (Definitely the largest city in the series in terms of area covered, the hyper futuristic technopolis of Esthar is such a great place to visit. It was like looking at 1950's ideas of the future through a thoroughly late 90's prism, with flying cars, mile high gleaming glass towers and transparent pedestrian overpasses going everywhere. And of course, the plot twist where you find out who the president of the place is following Adel's deposing is quite humorous. Not to mention of all the civilizations in the FF series, Esthar would probably rate as the most technologically advanced too.)
Tu'lia (I had to really think hard on this one, but 'Sky' won out. The floating citadel of the vanished Zilart civilization in FFXI, and the gateway of their blasphemous scheme to gain access to Paradise. Just gaining access to the place is an achievement requiring much hard work on the player's part in completing missions. Arriving there, you're greeted by architecture resembling the teleport crags found on the surface, but overgrown with trees and grass, giving a quite pleasant and relaxing appearance. Unfortunately, the many arcane machines left behind by the Zilart are still functional and still very aggressive, especially to magic. Tu'lia is the setting for numerous story battles, such as against the Ark Angels, and, the final battle of the Rise of the Zilart expansion story. It's also the setting for a series of optional battles known as the 'Sky Gods' which drop equipment still highly regarded and sort after by players.)
Shumi Village (A really interesting place to visit, especially doing the quests there which reveal more about this elusive and mysterious humanoid race, as well as more information about Laguna's past. Contained underground in a virtual biosphere, it was a relaxing and quiet place completely cut off from the problems of the outside world. Laguna, Laguna! ;).)
Besaid Island (Another one I had to think hard on. Despite my hatred for FFX, Besaid has such a calm, tranquil atmosphere at odds with the general depressing air of death that surrounds much of FFX's story. It was also significant too in that Tidus meets most of his companions for the game in that area.)
Opera House (No contest. The opera in FFVI was one of the most significant events in the history of the series (and RPGs in general). The plot to encounter Setzer by playing on his advances towards Maria the diva was quite ingenious, and of course, Celes performing the lyrics to the beautiful Aria di Mezzo Caraterre needs no introduction. The music, the area's design, the graphics, and the comic relief in the form of Ultros trying to get the drop on the team, literally, with a comedy weight, is just awesomeness on a grand scale. Finally, I loved the dress Celes wears in that scene. ;))

Phew!

Johnny for FFT pics. I'll recommend you try to get the Artwork rather than the "in game" pics. Because considering that the In game locations are made to in a chessboard fashion. They'll never look eyecandy. xD

Choosing between Cosmo Canyon and Orbonne Monastery was hard for me too. But the looks inside the Monastery are wicked. Specially the last basement with the whole Grimoire on the floor. Awesome Awesome stuff.

My choices for Round 1B:

Northern Crater Sure, it's basically a giant hole in the ground, but there was something about FFVII's final dungeon that appealed to me. Maybe it was the hidden symbolism of having to venture underground to defeat the cause of their impending destruction (Meteor). Or the sheer length of it, including all the double-backing. Or the cool music (Judgement Day). Or the crisply detailed (for their time) backgrounds, complete with flowing water, frothing mist and writhing flames. But it all came down to the fact it was the end of the game, that everything ends there. Nearly fourteen years later, it still seems amazing even despite the ruination of the game with SE's whoring of the title with the Compilation.
Threshold Also known in FFXI as The Walk of Echoes, this surreal place between dimensions is first seen by players at the start of the fourth FFXI expansion pack Wings of the Goddess, where the enigmatic Cait Sith is first encountered. And the giant maw of Atomos, in it's true form (as opposed to it's 'Cavernous Maw' forms used as gateways through time and space, and to access the Walk of Echoes itself), looms menacingly overhead like the Sword of Damocles. It's just too cool an area to pass up.
Black Mage Village This was a tough one. As much as I was tempted to vote for another FFXI area, the fact I spent so much time in the plains of Sarutabaruta level grinding my character and chasing down Crawlers for damn silk thread is enough to turn me off the place for good (that and the music became horribly repetitive too) made me vote for FFIX's Black Mage Village. It's a very interesting area, and the poignant scenes there throughout the game really tug on the heart strings, as Kuja's former Weapons of Magical Destruction cope gracefully with the challenges of learning about the meaning of their existence and their own limited mortality. Especially hearing them talk about others of their kin who have 'stopped' was such a real tear jerker. And in disc 4, when the Genomes of Terra join them there, seeing the Black Mages take them under their wing and impart their knowledge onto them, it was such a happy but poignant moment. And the awesome music needs no introduction either. One of my all time favourite FF locations. :)
Midgar Ah yes, another of my favourite FF places. Despite it being a grimy, seedy, steampunk industrial nightmare, Midgar still appeals to me even after all this time. I loved it's design, with the now familiar idea of class separation taken to extremes - the 'haves' living suspended above ground, with their elegant brick and tile apartments, cobblestone streets lot with gaslamps and steam-powered subways running everywhere on the 'Plate', over the filth and wretched poverty of the slum-dwelling have-nots surrounded by piles of rubbish and scrap metal. Even still, it was mentioned in game that even the slum dwellers took pride in their humble abodes, keeping them remarkably clean. Yes, even though the steam pipes and power conduits laid everywhere and the eight Mako reactors gave the impression (not far removed from the truth) of really living in one giant boiler room, Midgar still looked like a place where it would be interesting to visit. And of course, the steel and glass spire of the Shinra Building, jutting out of the city's hub and looming high overhead, seemed to exemplify the corporate greed epitomized by the Shinra. Perhaps it's ironic then, that after being reduced to a twisted pile of rubble in the game's ending by Meteor, the final scene (and opening scene of Advent Children), Shinra's vainglorious memorial to greed and avarice eventually becomes an Edenic paradise of lush vegetation and wildlife, a very literal 'Promised Land'.
Fynn The ruined home of Frionel and friends, and ransacked by the Palamecian Empire at the start of the game, it's a shame as it looked like a really nice place prior to being occupied. I also have a soft-spot for Princess Hilda which also helps cement my choice for this. ;)
The Republic of Bastok Another FFXI location I like, the hometown of the human ('hume') race, and the adopted home of the galka, the grimy, smelly Republic is very much an amalgam of the real world early-Industrial Era British Empire, fused with elements of the late-1800's USA (it's government is a democratic, although humecentric, republic with a president as it's head of state). Devoted to mining, metalworking (hell, the government centre of the city is literally called the 'Metalworks') and industry, this wonderland of human ingunity also has a real ugly side. Not just the pollution from the smelters and ironworks have turned the rivers that run through the city black, and reduced the surrounding landscape of Gustaberg into an arid wasteland, the galka, who fled there following the invasion of their homeland of Altepa by the insect-humanoid Antica, are used as a convenient form of cheap labour, toiling thanklessly in the mines and factories. It is also where FFXI's airship was arguably developed, by none of than Cid, under guidance from Jeuno.
Orbonne Monastery The setting for a number of story battles in FFT, the monastery is holds many secrets of Ivalice in it's depths. From it's exquisite library off limits to the outside world (where many heretical books were sealed away), to the underground Nechrol of the former city of Mullonde, destroyed thousands of years earlier, to the final resting place of Ivalice's forgotten technological heritage - the Graveyard of Airships (and the final battlefield against Altima/Ultima). It's therefore fitting perhaps that the game both starts and ends here - the Zodiac Brave Story come full circle, just like the Zodiac itself begins a a new cycle after ending an old one).
Limsa Lominsa Despite not being my character's home town in FFXIV (that's Gridania), I have a fondness for the Thalassocracy. If only for the awesome background music (Navigator's Glory), a rousing naval march which really suits such a booming port city (which also incidentally, was the backing music for the very first trailer shown of FFXIV back in 2009). And, like Jeuno in FFXI, it's located on an island off the mainland, and accessed by bridge (although to get to the rest of Eorzea you need to take either a ferry or an airship).
Zepwell Island Also known on FFXI's Conquest map as the 'Kuzotz Region', Zepwell Island is the original home of the galka race and the setting for a number of Rise of the Zilart expansion pack missions. By the time of the game's setting a barren desert occupies most of the island, caused by the constant burrowing of the aggressive insect-like race of beastmen known as the Antica. However, there are a few oases scattered around the island, such as the important trading post of Rabao. The decaying ruins of the once grand galkan capital of Altepa are gradually disappearing under the sand, but still provide glimpses of the lost heritage of this proud race. The backing music is also fittingly 'desert-like.'
Brigands' Den Although the location of a single story battle in FFT, it was still a challenging battle at that time - although it showed the value of using the terrain to your advantage in FFT (put an Archer or two up on the gateway and snipe the enemy from afar).
Fisherman's Horizon Another unusual location, this city of liberals and idealist refugees from Esthar is rather down at heel, shown by the scrap and refuse scattered around, and the abandoned train station on Horizon Bridge, which gives the town it's name. The scene where the mobile Balamb Garden crashes into it is also hilarious. FH as it's also known by to it's residents also becomes a kind of 'interchange' between the Ragnarok and the Garden later in the game, as you can dock both there and board one from the other. FH's music is also very relaxing too.
Tower of Zot The oddly-named tower is a real headache in FFIV, being where Kain, under Golbez's manipulation, holds Rosa prisoner. Seemingly technological in design (cogwheels protrude out of the walls, and the very structure of the tower is made of metal plates), it's possibly a relic of the Lunarians (which would explain Golbez's use of it). It's music is fittingly oppressive too.
Midlight's Deep Also known as 'The Deep Dungeon' in the original PSX version of FFT, this optional dungeon has some of the hardest battles in the game, whose six floors are all named after references to the film Apocalypse Now. As a trade off though, hidden within traps are some of the best equipment in the game, such as the Robe of Lords and the Mace of Zeus. The final level also pits you against the rebellious wizard Elidibs, who possesses the secret 13th Zodiac Stone Serpentarius, and who naturally turns into a Zodiac Brave and attacks you for no good reason other than spite. The battle also gains you a unique monster unit for your party in the form of a Byblos.
Zanarkand Despite my hatred for FFX, I always liked Zanarkand at the beginning of the game, and felt cheated you saw so little of it (and could explore even less). It's a pity it gets reduced to ruins early on by Sin, and when you finally reach there at the end of Yuna's pilgrimage, it proves of course to be no wonderland.
Alexandria I love FFIX, and Alexandria is one of my favourite places in the game. A very elegant city which is remarkably well thought out in layout, and being the home of one of my favourite FF characters (Garnet) makes this even more a shoe-in. Seeing it be destroyed by the Invincible's Independence Day impersonation was a real shock, and visiting the city in the aftermath, with survivor's combing through the wreckage trying to put their shattered lives back together really tugged on the heart strings (further influenced by the backing music changing to the melancholy Unrequited Love). Still a favourite. :)
Mor Dhona The setting of the battle between the airships of the Garlean Empire and Bahamut's dragons in the ambiguous opening FMV movie, this oppressive place still shows scars of that battle, with the Primal's king still entwined tightly around the wreckage of the Imperial Dreadnought that he brought down in that scene - now jutting out of the sulfurous lake like a jagged spire. And fittingly, the place is full of high level monsters, and a showdown with an Imperial Judge who kicks your character's backside four ways from Firesday. It's a pity FFXIV was so poorly executed at launch (and has left such a bad taste in most players' mouths), as Mor Dhona shows a teaser of what SE has planned for this game.

EDIT: just realized I misread Johnny's rules for this, so I deleted my invalid 'tiebreaker.' ;)

Narshe - Rabao was dull and lifeless, and Corneria, had a nice music track but despite looking large was just an illusion - no matter what part of the town you entered it would just be the same little group of shops, houses, 'clinic' and inn. And the well which, as it says when you look at it, is just a well. Narshe on the other hand, was just so awesome. A grimy steampunk mining town, the animosity of the residents towards the Empire is well grounded. And the beautiful sprite artwork really captured the snowbound mining town perfectly.
Great Crystal of Giruvegan - It's a giant crystal. Enough said. :p Well, a lot can be said actually. The place is a maze as can be expected, and, due to the high concentration of Mist in the place not only do you regenerate HP and MP much faster than normal, there is no map at all - just a picture of a giant crystal. The minimap doesn't work either sadly, so you can't even rely on that. Not to mention it's full of nasty monsters, but that should be expected being the prison of the Esper's rebellious leader, Ultima. And, speaking of which, finally getting to her to challenge the fallen angel is no push over either. Still utterly cool-looking regardless.
Rabanastre - Considering it's your 'base' pretty much for most of FFXII Rabanastre is a pretty nice city to reside in. Despite the Archadian soldiers on every street corner (who are held with natural contempt by the townspeople) it has a very relaxed, laid back atmosphere. It also fits in with the 'big city' image very well, being very large and easy to get lost in. It even has it's own transport system in the form of the 'Moogling' - a moogle-run teleport service.
The Kingdom of San d'Oria - ah, 'Sandy'. The so-called 'mighty Red Lion', San d'Oria is the hometown of the elf-like race the elvaan, and, fittingly for such a proud, arrogant race, is a very secular, inclusive place, being a medieval walled castle town. Although the eponymous theme music gets a bit repetitive (especially with those damn bagpipes), it fits the setting very well. Unlike Windurst it is also very small and easy to get around in, as most important places are within easy distance of each other, which for a MMORPG like FFXI is very preferable. It is also the base for the Cathedral of the Goddess, the seat of the Church of Altana, Vana'diel's principal theology.
The Calm Lands - Calm Lands definitely wins this. Orphan's Cradle made absolutely zero sense - just, what the hell WAS that place? At least the Calm Lands are self explanatory - a nice rolling grass plain that is true to it's name. Although there are still lots of monsters scattered around the place, it's a good spot to level if needed, plus it's also a good spot to spend time racing chocobos too.
Lufenia - Lufenia wins this, by virtue of at least being still intact, unlike Oerba which is a deserted ruin.
Magitek Reseach Facility - Hard choice, as I love the music for both, but the Magitek Facility wins - it's backing music (Devil's Lab) is just so different to anything else on the FFVI OST, and the hilarious dialogue from Kefka as he unceremoniously dumps Shiva and Ifrit into a garbage chute after having drained their powers is so fitting for the insane clown. And the awesome art design brings the area to life.
Goug Machine City - an excavation site for the recovery of Ivalice's lost technological prowess, and an important site for a number of story scenes and battles. Mustadio and his father Besrodio are engineers from here, and it's the place where both the ancient robot Worker 8 (Construct 8 in the PSP remake), and the celestial globe which pulls Cloud from FFVII's Planet into Ivalice are both discovered.
Floating Continent - Bodhum looked interesting, but you never could explore it other than the brief scenes during flashback sequences. At least the Floating Continent could be explored, and it was a very challenging place too. Especially getting back to the Blackjack in time, but still with enough time on the clock to save Shadow (and therefore be able to regain him in the World of Ruin). It had an awesome music track too (New Continent).
Burmecia - Freya's hometown, it's such a tragedy that by the time you visit it, it's been already destroyed by Alexandrian forces, and is abandoned and desolate. Still, the City of Eternal Rain does give hints at what a beautiful place it once was, with traces of it's elegant history still visible amongst the aftermath of Brahne's rampage. The backing music is fittingly melancholy too.
The Prima Vista - Although more a mode of transport than a location, Tantalus's theatre ship is every bit the grand edifice that it appears to be, especially when it's shown looming over the city of Alexandria early in the game. It's just a pity it's wrecked during the course of the game, and ultimately abandoned.
Deling City - one of my favourite FF cities, it was probably also the most believable, due to the fact it was apparently based loosely on real-life Paris, France in design. Despite being the capital of Deling's 'democratic' republic of Galbadia, it looked like a very interesting place to visit. From the train station with the escalators that always seem to catch Squall's feet every time he stepped onto it, to the ornamental gateway with Byzantine designs, and the famous Galbadian Hotel where Laguna once romanced Julia (and Kiros said he rated a 'minus 3 on the Manliness scale!') every part of the city looked right. It has a first class public transport system too, with the frequent free buses that circle the city (a forerunner to the Aircabs of Lindblum in FFIX).
Palumpolum - of all Cocoon's cities in FFXIII, Palumpolum looked the most believable. That is until you find Carbuncle residing underground tending food processors. Still, of all FFXIII's places Palumpolum was probably the one I wished I could have explored fully the most. Not to mention it's name was derived from two FFIV characters. ;)
The Grand Duchy of Jeuno - Vana'diel's 'big city', and fittingly the centre of commerce in Vana'diel too (not surprising considering it's located on bridges spanning between the main continents of Quon and Mindartia. It's design is somewhat simillar to Lindblum in FFIX, being a large spire like castle surrounded by buildings which seemed to grow up it's sides, but the elegant Duchy has a dark side, a revelation discovered during the course of FFXI's storyline (especially in the Rise of the Zilart and Chains of Promathia expansions) - an ugly truth that threatened to shake Vana'diel's very society apart. Regardless, Jeuno to this day is still regarded as an important meeting place by FFXI's community, especially with the introduction of the 'Abyssea' add on packs.
Eruyt Village - definitely the Viera's hometown. Beautiful in design, to the point it's almost ethereal, and Hitoshi Sakimoto's soft, almost sad, background music further enhances it's serene, otherwordly nature. If there is a place in a FF world which resembles the mythical Shangri-la, then Eruyt Village is it. :)

Okay, Round 2, but because we have the huge 135 item game again, I can do nice statistics again...

Leading Locations (by points tally)
Flying Fortress (I)
Opera House (VI)
Esthar City (VIII)
Burmecia (IX)

...all have 8 points. Behind them are 14 other locations who all have 7 points.

Leading Games (by locations left in game)
Final Fantasy IX still has all 9 locations left in the game.
Behind IX is Final Fantasy VI and VII, who have 8 locations left.

Games on the Edge (by locations left in game)
Both Final Fantasy V and XI have only 1 location left in the game.
Final Fantasy II and XIV have 2 locations left.

Leading Games (by total points tally)
Final Fantasy IX has a total tally of 57 points.
Second place is Final Fantasy VI with 54 points.
Third place is Final Fantasy VII with 53 points.

Least Liked Game (by total points tally)
Despire the fact that FF5 and FF11 have only 1 location left each, Final Fantasy II have the smallest points tally with 14 points.
Second to last is Final Fantasy XI with 15 points.
Third to last is Final Fantasy XIV with 16 points. FF5 had eight eliminations in Round 1 but they still tallied up a decent 18 points.

--

Okay, if you played the Final Fantasy Character Knockout Game you may remember me putting the total points tally in each round, I'll be doing that again. To avoid confusion, the total points tally will be in numerical format and the game the location is from will be in Roman numerals.

64 locations left, 32 spaces in the next round. I'll do this in two parts, Round 2A will be posted below, and next week I'll post Round 2B.

Round 2A

Statistics After Round 2

Leading Locations (by points tally)

The Opera House is leading in terms of points tally as it's the only location that's accumulated 15 points thus far.

The following have 14 points...
Troia (IV)
Magitek Research Facility (VI)
Floating Continent (VI)
Temple of the Ancients (VII)
Alexandria (IX)
Lindblum (IX)
Midlight's Deep/Deep Dungeon (Tactics)

Leading Games (by locations left in game)

Final Fantasy IX has done an amazing job so far, only one elimination from the game has happened so far and that was a close one. Burmecia lost to a tiebreaker against Ultimecia's Castle, if Enkidoh chose the former FF9 would still have all nine entries. Things are definitely heating up now though as their eight entries take half the battles.

In second place is FF6, with 6 of their 9 entries still going strong. FF7 is starting to struggle to keep up the pace, only 4 of their 9 made it to Round 3.

Goodbye...
Final Fantasy II, V, XI and XIV have all their representatives out of the game. Games with only 1 left in are Final Fantasy I, IV, X and XIII, with XIII having the smallest points tally out of these with 35.

Leading Games (by total points tally)
Final Fantasy IX has stormed into the lead with 110 points.
Trailing behind is Final Fantasy VI, with 99 points. In third place is Final Fantasy VII with 88 points. It's really becoming a three horse race in honesty as the others are trailing behind.

Least Liked Game (by total points tally)

Well officially Final Fantasy II is the least liked game for locations according to the FF Shrine, tallying a woeful 16 points. In joint second last place are the two online games, Final Fantasy XI and XIV, both accumulating 17 points.
--

32 locations left, let's halve these into 16. Remember that the total points tally will be in numerical format and the game the location is from will be in Roman numerals. There's no Part A or B any more, all the locations below are what remain. Onto Round 3!

No tiebreakers in Round 3, so we move straight to Round 4.

Statistics After Round 3

Leading Locations (by points tally)
We have a three-way tie for first place, we have the Floating Continent for FF6, along with the two major cities of FF9's Mist Continent, Lindblum and Alexandria, who all have 22 points.

Trailing them are the Opera House of FF6, and the Black Mage Village of FF9, who have 21 points.

Leading Games (by locations left in game)
After an excellent first two rounds, FF9 had their 8 locations cut in half to 4 for Round 3. FF6 had 6 locations in Round 2, and only two of those locations bit the dust, meaning both FF9 and FF6 have 4 locations going into Round 3, which takes up half the entries for the round.

In third place is tied, FF12 and FF8 have 2 locations each. FF7 had 4 locations in Round 2, and three of those lost their battles, the sole survivor from FF7 being Midgar.

Goodbye...
Final Fantasy I and XIII had 1 location in Round 2 and both lost out. Games with only 1 left in are Final Fantasy IV, VII, X and Tactics, with FF10 having the smallest points tally out of these with 49.

Leading Games (by total points tally)
Final Fantasy IX continues its dominance with 156 points.
Trailing behind is Final Fantasy VI is catching up though, with 131 points. In third place, despite only having 1 game left in the competition, is Final Fantasy VII with 99 points. Will Midgar alone be able to take on the other games in terms of keeping that third place?

--

16 locations left, let's halve these into 8, for the quarter finals. Remember that the total points tally will be in numerical format and the game the location is from will be in Roman numerals. There's no Part A or B any more, all the locations below are what remain. Onto Round 4!

A little earlier this week, I'm away over the weekend, last day of voting is today, and then I'll post the tiebreakers and The Quarter Finals tomorrow.

Here's a hint, there's loads of tiebreakers at the moment so one vote changes all of that, if you haven't voted do it now, it probably means what your vote goes to wins (unless another person votes after you and chooses the opposite, in which case we're back to tiebreakers again ;))

Statistics After Round 4

Leading Locations (by points tally)
Black Mage Village storms into the lead with 29 points after beating the Tower of Zot 8 points to 0, the only clean sweep in the last round.

Trailing the BMV are the Floating Continent and Magitek Research Facility of FF6, and Alexandria of FF9, who have 26 points.

Leading Games (by locations left in game)
Final Fantasy VI may not be winning on points tally but they have 3 of the 8 spaces for the Quarter Finals. Final Fantasy IX have two locations left and the other three spaces, all with one location represented are Final Fantasy VII, VIII and in a certain way amazingly, Final Fantasy Tactics.

Goodbye...
…to Final Fantasy IV (Tower of Zot), Final Fantasy X (Luca) and Final Fantasy XII (Rabanastre and Great Crystal of Giruvegan), who all had their final representatives lose their matches.

As stated early, locations with only 1 left in are Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and Tactics, with FF8 having the smallest points tally out of these with 79.

Leading Games (by total points tally)
As stated early Final Fantasy VI has more locations left but Final Fantasy IX continues its dominance with 176 points.

Trailing behind is Final Fantasy VI with 149 points. Hanging by a thread from the tiebreaker in third place, is Final Fantasy VII with 103 points. Midgar won on a tiebreaker last round, but will it make the semi finals?

--

It’s the Quarter Finals! 8 locations left, let's halve these into 4, for the semi finals. Statistics After Round 5

Leading Locations (by points tally)
Black Mage Village maintains its lead with 35 points, and with four locations left, you could argue it's the favourite now.

Trailing the BMV are the Floating Continent and Alexandria of FF9, who have 31 points.

Leading Games (by locations left in game)
Final Fantasy IX takes back the lead with both its 2 locations from the Quarter Finals win their matches. Final Fantasy 6 and 8 have the other two spots.

Goodbye...
…to Final Fantasy VII (Midgar) and Final Fantasy Tactics (Lionel Castle) who all had their final representatives lose their matches.

As stated earlier, games with only location 1 left in are Final Fantasy VI and VIII, with FF8 having the smallest points tally out of these with 84.

Leading Games (by total points tally)
Final Fantasy IX continues its dominance with 187 points.

Trailing behind is Final Fantasy VI with 159 points. Final Fantasy VII tallied up a total of 106 points. It would be some ask but if Final Fantasy VIII pick up 22 points... ;)

It’s the Semi Finals! 4 locations left, let's halve these into 2, for the finals. Remember that the total points tally will be in numerical format and the game the location is from will be in Roman numerals. There's no Part A or B any more, all the locations below are what remain. Onto Round 6!

I'll post the final tomorrow. Only 7 voters in this round so if you haven't voted, do it now and you could make a big difference because both battles are extremely tight! :)

Do these count as votes? If they do, they bump the tally to 9.

You mean do they count because they're quotes? That's always been the way with other rumbles.

No no, I just wasn't sure if people were quoting other comments and using them as votes for their own, in which case they're fine, I just didn't count them until now! A few more hours I say... 9 votes... if there's a tenth the games could turn into tiebreakers... ;)

Here is the final!

Black Mage Village (IX) (40)

or...

Ultimecia's Castle (VIII) (32)

--

Some questions...

a) So what is your favourite of these two locations?
b) What, if you can narrow it down, is your actual favourite location?
c) Shall we do another knockout game? I like the idea of the transportations game before, we can do that or we can wait until after Christmas.

Transportations sounds good and I'm fine starting now or after Christmas.

a) Ultimecia's Castle

b) Narshe--the look, the music, the story importance, the geography, the natives, the side-quests, the fact that it stands as your introduction to the whole world of FFVI and does so beautifully, the fact that it has to meet your expectations after they were built up during the Mode 7 approach and it does

c) I'm in for another sooner rather than later

Ultimecia's Castle

b) Lindblum - I always wanted to punch Brahne for scarring my favourite city:P

c) Means of transport Rumble before Christmass sounds great to me:)

Last day of voting, although it looks like the winner has been decided already.

Congratulations to Ultimecia's Castle, the winner of the best Final Fantasy Locations game!

As for new knockout games I'm going to give it a break for a bit, but in a few months I'll do the Favourite Transportations game. I have my teeth sunk into a knockout competition about wrestling, if you're interested in taking part visit my website below.

Merry Christmas FF Shrine, if you celebrate it. :)
