Thanks. For some reason this caught my eye. Don't know quite how so, really, but I'm getting the feeling to give it a go, and so I shall :p

It is a great, great show. A very watchable, traditional rendition of Holmes and Watson, very comparable to the intent of the original stories. It is a bit older, in style, but I like it. Then, I like all tv stuff...:/

Exactly as Babydoll says, its a great protrayal of Holmes and Watson. The best that I have watched (and I've watched most Holmes related stuff - I have a soft spot for the silly Without A Clue, a score I meant to pickup), the only oddity is that the show was on ITV and not BBC (at least in the UK, god knows if it appeared on BBC America)

Here it runs sporadically on our local PBS station. I checked most of them out from the library....

Jeremy Brett rocked in this series. It made him my definite Holmes. Thanks for the share, Babydoll. :D

Ah, the good old days... when ITV made some quality programmes every now and again. Now, it's the very-occasional period drama sandwiched between endless reality celebrity crap, bollocks soaps, Loose Women, and Jeremy Kyle.

To add a few details to this, if I may...

Patrick Gowers conducts The Wren Orchestra of London, St Paul's Cathedral Choir, and The Gabrielli String Quartet.

A wonderful score, indeed - thanks babydoll! What a shame, though, that it highlights just how far British TV standards have fallen in just twenty five years.

The score was posted here before. And just lately, in the requests thread. The 320 is an upgrade for that. Someone there is dl-ing unreleased tracks too, so keep an eye on that.

Wait a second, is this the same as the 3 episode long miniseries that was released recently with the most generic score ever? I certainly will have to check this out if Tango thinks its great but the Sherlock show I saw had a terrible score.

No, this is not Sherlock. This is an older adaptation of Holmes. Very traditional.

here it is Babydoll, the score for the series by Patrick Gowers, only unreleased tracks.
A holy Grail to me!
Enjoy

All links are down (official and bootleg).

If anyone could re-up (in lossless if possible for the official one), it would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Sherlock Holmes is the name given to the TV series of Sherlock Holmes adaptations produced by British television company Granada Television between 1984 and 1994, with the first two seasons bearing the title The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes on screen and being followed by subsequent sub-series bearing the titles of the other short story collections by Arthur Conan Doyle. The series was broadcast on the ITV network in the UK, and starred Jeremy Brett as the famous detective. His portrayal remains very popular, and is often accepted as the definitive on-screen version of Sherlock Holmes.[1][2][3]

In addition, Holmes's faithful friend and companion Dr. Watson is scrupulously portrayed as the kind of thoroughly competent sidekick Holmes would want. Initially, Watson was portrayed by David Burke who had earlier played the villain in an adaptation of "The Adventure of the Beryl Coronet" for the 1965 BBC series[4] starring Douglas Wilmer and Nigel Stock. Burke appeared in the first Adventures series before electing to leave after receiving an invitation to join the Royal Shakespeare Company.[5][6] He was replaced by Edward Hardwicke, who played Watson for the remainder of the run.[6]

Of the 60 Holmes stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, 42 were adapted in the series spanning 36 one-hour episodes and five feature-length specials. (The elements of two stories were combined in one episode, accounting for the different numbers.)

I don't think there was a different release, suggesting my copy is also Varese. So, you can PM me too. I also have a set of unreleased tracks, from a member here. I am not sure who, but I CAN post those. Look for them in Crunch's TV thread.

Those are pretty crappy tracks that some fan lifted from the DVDS...

And once I found Wildwood Park and The Dimensioner playing Chinese Checkers in said belly button.... I was too frightened to venture any further.

This was one of the great all-time series. For some reason, possibly because of The Blue Carbuncle music, this has always seemed a Christmas album to me. I'm very excited by the link above to the bootleg album, tho' the mirrorcreator site leads to mostly sites that want to install malware exes on your computer, there was one (Solidfiles) that actually worked.
Jeremy Brett was brilliant as Holmes. If you watch the series in broadcast order, you'll notice the alarming change in his appearance. He had become seriously ill and according to an interview with him that I watched, he had been correctly diagnosed but given the wrong treatment, which turned out to have fatally damaged him. For the last season of Holmes, his appearance was due to the medicines. He was dying and knew it, but he kept on.
The series was made by John Hawkesworth (sp?). He of course made the original Upstairs, Downstairs but if you've not seen it, he made a 12 or so part series called Danger: UXB that is another of the best series that I've ever watched. A kind of Hurt Locker soap opera done the way only the Brits can do that sort of thing.
