By the end of chapter two,how many jobs should i have mastered?

I got 1 job mastered on at least 2 people and almost 3 or 4 jobs mastered.

I haven't stolen the swords from gafgarion(OOPS!) apparently,in a guide,it says the swords he has are quite good.

Yes, definitely steal the swords. I think one is called the Blood Sword; the other I don't know, but the first one I know helped immensely. Steal from him often, in every battle you fight against him. As for the jobs, I really couldn't tell you how many you should have mastered, but I can tell you I had Ramza and Agrias maxed out in at least ten different roles :) It simplified all kinds of overwhelming battles in the coming stages of the game.

It is entirely possible to get by without Gafgarion's goods or even 5+ jobs as long as you know what you're doing with what you've got. Heck, my first playthrough, I seem to recall only leveling each of my characters in one job apart from the one they started with :O Some exceptions include going from Squire to Monk, which requires some Knight proficiency, but for the most part I just struggled to manage my party with what they already had  It all just takes patience and practice; read up on battles beforehand and devise a strategy for the path you want to take your party's combat roles. Balance is key :) Best of luck!

Gafgarion wasn't that difficult. at least for me.

He was for me at the Execution Site. I literally gave up on that part in my PSP version a few months ago; still haven't gotten back to it. I could probably do it at my current level with just a little better strategy, or grind a little more . . . but with only one measly place to level it becomes rather monotonous -_-

having Holy really takes it out on him. one hit and he's a goner. another idea is to put a Red Chocobo or 2 in your party and they'll be able to deal with the Time Mages up there who cause trouble. as for the others, area effect spells work well too

Ahh, chocobos; now there's something I honestly haven't thought to try. I get annoyed when they keep reproducing in my party roster and ditch a few, but keep at least one. Having a Black Chocobo who can pick 'em off with those otherwise annoying seed-like projectiles would make for a major improvement ^^

dont use black chocobos. they're way too slow and have less HP.

Good thing that's not what I've got then, LOL! I just fired up my PSP to check and I've got five yellow chocs. This all in mind, I'm off to kick some Gafgarion ass. Peace :)

u can only use 4. Ramza has to be part of it. and i highly recommend substituting one for a red chocobo for their higher speed and much higher HP. not to mention their long range abilities (Choco Meteor).

Also, it should go without saying that you can actually ride a chocobo that is one of your units in battle as well - simply position the intending rider onto the same tile that the chocobo is on, and it should ask you if you want to mount it. Doing so removes the chocobo from the CP list as a usable unit while it being ridden, but the upside is that chocobo increases the range of the the unit who is riding it, thus allowing slow units far greater coverage on the battlefield.

And yes, Red Chocobos are definitely preferable over black ones, not only because they can fly, but also because they have the Yellow Chocobo's 'Choco Cure' ability to heal themselves, plus the devastating 'Choco Meteor'. I still kept Boco though in my party for sentimental reasons however (he, or she, was apparently Gafgarion's steed).

And this is why i hate fighting chocobos. They are so freaking annoying. In those random enemy plains, the chocobos get a first turn and start ganging up on me,its not a pretty sight.

Black chocobos hit hard, but i bet that the red ones are really nice for fights.I haven't used any chocobos, and i haven't even taken advantage of agrias till i fought against the lancers in the library.I actually did something pretty funny too:I hit a lancer who was right next to another lancer and he was trying to hit me with a charge attack, and i stopped him. After stop wore off,he attacked the air killing his own lancer buddy.Oh man was i laughing my ass off. What was that word for when you harm your own by accident? OH YEAH! friendly fire.

You're not the only one. I had trouble with that fight on War of the Lions for ages.

Wow.

The blademaster in the library level of chapter 3 sure has a lot of range, and damage.
He keeps using dragoon jump on me.Oh yeah:I just started on my goon.

first of all, Red Chocobos only have Choco Cure as a secret ability. as for Boco, he was Wiegraf's steed, not Gafgarion's.

I got something to add:Anyone feel guilty after kicking the chocobos out of the team?
I mean:They get all sad eyes and start giving you this message like:i watched your back and you kicked me out and abandoned me? shame on you.

i normally do that while breedin for the best red and yellow chocobo. also, for the record, every monster (even worker 8) says that.

Gah I almost got a perfect run but at the end,2 characters died, and a third was going to die.

I had slowed every enemy down, and hasted my whole team.I had casted darkness and even imobilize on some enemies.

Stupid blademaster hits like a son of a bitch, and also counter attacks with a very high damage attack.

HOLY SHIT!! 3 fights in a row,and not even so much as a rest to stock up on potions and x potions.
These designers want to kill me,they really do.This is insane amount of fights in the library,i mean:WOW!! this surpasses the difficulty of before.

if you focus on the objective more than just tryin to defeat all the enemies, u spare yourself a lotta pain. this is also why i use mages more than fighters.

Wouldn't that make things worse to have more mages? i mean:They got low hp and get targeted a lot by melee and archer characters.

The first characters always to go in my fights, are casters.

Not as long as u keep them protected enough from harm. they dont have that much less HP than most melee classes. i personally use a ninja and a time mage as my most used classes. if u have a black mage with white magic abilities, Holy among them, you have one powerful mage at your disposable. having Swiftness really benefits as well. having mantles on your characters can help in the long run too.

OK:Check this out:I have to fight wiegraf after 2 fights in a row with:

No time to buy extra potions or pheonix downs
No time to buy new gear if any is broken
No nothing!

Plus:He hits like a son of a bitch.176 damage,and nearly 1 hit killed 1 of my characters.
I am positive now that these game designers were smoking crack, because this fight is beyond insane.
The other fights weren't too bad in the game, but this one takes the cake so far.

Once again, magic will get the job done. having a red chocobo can take it to him as well. since he's the only one u need to defeat, focus all your attacks on him.

OH DAMM!! i was worried.

I see wiegraf turn into velius or whatever, and i'm like:SHIT!! CMON GAME!! haven't you had enough fights in a row? i mean:GIMME A FUCKING BREAK!! i haven't been given time to even buy potions yet.

For a minute,i was worried i would have to fight velius or velus or whatever.

OH BTW!! i love the lancer class.

I just hit wiegraf from range and BOOM!! he couldn't even counter attack me.
Plus:I did over 150 damage to him.

He cant counter anyway, since you were far away. he can only counter if he is in range of your particular attack.
