Apparently AMANDA has gotten JESSIE to demand that I remove all of my links, and it appears that AMANDA will be doing this on ALL of my future posts and links, so I will NOT be posting any reups on any links. You can PM Amanda and Jessie and thank them both!

Thanks, William. Horror has always been my thing, and Halloween my favorite holiday, so I look forward to seeing what you put here.:)

P.S.: My only disappointment is that you chose Hotfile as the host. The link(s) probably won't be around long. (Plus, I'll have to wait between DLs.) Anyway, thanks again.:)

What passes for HORROR films today are mostly blood & guts gross out films- nothing scary about THAT.

But the best remains, as mentioned the 1940s THE UNINVITED and the 1960s THE HAUNTING.

One track of music from the later is available on a nla disc called HORROR! which also has great stuff from Night of the Demon and The Abominable Snowman. A rerecording of 'some' of the score for The Uninvited was attempted by Marco Polo some years back- but it is a rather lackluster account with its anemic piano work (which is central to the score & film).

I suppose one of the most FRIGHTENING scores composed based on just SOUND is Goldenthal's ALIEN3. That goes from very soft & gentle to very aggressive orchestral ATTACK on the senses.

And William- STOP POSTING IN BLUE! You are hurting my eyes. ;-)

You must be older, too. I second that request--my eyes are KILLING me!:)

Oh, and The Haunting is a fave, too. I'm mulling over the idea of putting together a Horror compilation of my favorite tracks to post for Halloween. I was definitely planning on including the theme from The Haunting in the mix.

Hmm, as to what defines a good horror movie, Slash and Gore is basically its own genre. Easy to gross you out with Hostel-type gore and sudden orchestral noises, but very difficult to make you uneasy by character and story alone. I think the 70s and 80s had very intense movies, darker, without much gore. I digress, but music plays a big role.
Don Davis did the music for the remake of House on Haunted Hill. Fabulous score, in parts. Listen to the Main Title or "Hans Verbosemann", "House Humongous" (captures the mood nicely), and "Price Prestiferous". I'd say half the tracks are laced with Davis' signature orchestra-hit cacophony known from the Matrix soundcraps -- very annoying, not very haunting.

How about The Shining (unofficial release)? While also with certain noise-elements, the soundtrack compliments the drawn out scenes and Jack's insanity. It's really no score for those nights alone at home.

Just my 2 cents.
Thanks for the posts, William.

Especially like the lead female walking around naked in the middle of the film! :)
William

I don't think she actually wears any clothes throughout the movie.

Australian actress, I believe. Or British. Amazingly perfect.

Anyway, I believe that the release of "The Keep" didn't have much music from the movie. It was more along the lines of "music inspired by" kind of thing.

Any chance of The Amityville Horror (Schifrin)?
