Gears Of War 3: The Soundtrack (2011)



Gears of War 3 The Soundtrack features the original music score by Steve Jablonsky who also wrote the music for Gears of War 2, Michael Bay's The Island, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Transformers movies. The veteran film composer created nearly 80 minutes of new music for the latest installment of the Gears of War franchise. The score is an impressive organic and electronic hybrid mix featuring live orchestra and choir performed by the Northwest Sinfonia and mixed by Remote Control Productions.

Composer Steve Jablonsky: "Gears of War 3 is huge. It was like scoring a summer blockbuster. I love the guys at Epic because to them, the characters and the story are just as important as the gameplay. Yes, the gameplay is awesome and badass, but there is a ton of depth to these characters, and I think that's a big part of why so many people love this franchise. Epic's commitment to story allows me to dig deeper musically and really have some fun with the score."

Yeah, it's nothing remarkable, but I think it's better than GoW 2. Not by much, granted, but instead of it being mediocre it is decent. Which is a plus. Kinda.

e! I think that gears' 2 score is much better. I listened to this twice and only remembered the beginning and the end which revolves around the main theme. Also, I still miss the Riepl's "ta da da da da da dam dam" from the main theme - if u know what I mean ^^

Yes i think kevin's was by far the best gears of war score around. The second one had some pretty good themes as well by jablonsky, but so far the third is very meh. I haven't played the game yet so maybe my perspective will change. Im not sure if jablonsky has gotten lazy or something.

My God - for once, you and I actually agree on something! Riepl's work was by far the best part of the series. I have no idea why Epic Games got rid of him.

EDIT: Having just finished listening, I'd say it's actually pretty good, although I do miss some more memorable "military" tracks like "Armored Prayer" from the second album. At any rate, I don't think it's "bland" or anything, it's just not very thematic.

Hmm . . . I'm not sure if the problem is the score, but how it was mixed. There's some decent stuff in here but it's buried in electronic muck thanks to the mixing.

The best tracks come at the end of the OST, with all of the dramatic "final battle"-esque cues come into play, I think.

It works decently in-game but doesn't really stand out outside of it, like most Jablonsky scores. *sigh*
