I have played FF7 several times and managed to stuff it up several times (Like missing Trine on the 4th enemy skill and so on).

This time around i have managed to get everything. Every enemy skill, every materia and every item attainable.

I am however having extreme trouble getting an Enemy Away Materia from the Chocobo racing.

I know this much about it. It is only attainable through chocobo racing, you can get it in B-A-S classes as race prizes and also you can get it if you bet on chocobo's.

I have seen it listed as a prize only the select few times, where as everything else seems to come up much more frequently (Precious Watch, Sprint Shoes, Sneak attack etc).

What i moreorless want to know is what is the most likely way i would come about winning it? Should i just keep grinding the damn races until i get lucky? Or is it more likely i'll get it in a lower bracket race (I keep racing with my S-Class Gold Chocobo constantly) like B or A?

Am i more likely to see the 'better' items if i keep winning? Does Enemy Away come up more if you lose often?

Any advice of feedback you could offer would be great as i am sick of racing these damn birds

Firstly, welcome to the Shrine! :D

Don't worry, I know your pain. I had nothing but trouble trying to get Enemy Away too, in exactly the same circumstances.

In my case however, from the day I first started playing FFVII in late 1997, it took me nearly fifteen years before I finally managed to win that damn materia. A number of times it came up on a race in the prizes, but I never managed to actually win it, instead only winning something insignificant like a Phoenix Down or Bolt Plume.

As a result, I think that materia is classed as an special prize that the Gold Saucer isn't willing to bet against you if you've won too many races in succession - the odds are too high you'll win. So yeah, how I eventually got it was I deliberately lost a number of races, and even switched from my maxed gold chocobo to using one of my original yellow/green/blue/black chocobos which were much slower.

Eventually, after losing a number of races, the Enemy Away materia once again showed up in the first place prize winnings, and I made sure to win that race. And sure enough, I won it!

So don't despair. If you're having trouble getting it, lose a few races or switch to a weaker, slower chocobo and eventually you should be able to gain this elusive materia. :)

Thanks for the welcome. I've been using shrine on and off for like 7 years, i just never needed to sign up to the forums previously.

That was moreorless the conclusions i drew, that i would need to lose some in order to win some. Just wanted someone elses experience on the matter :)

Guess i'll go buy a bunch of greens to beef up my other chocobo's. Thanks for the help!

Yeah, getting everything was a pain.

Anyway, welcome. Enjoy your stay.

That's crazy, I would've never thought to deliberately LOSE some matches to get some elusive items... still not sure its worth the effort, but might as well.

Oh god. I have been trying to get enemy away for over a week now. When I came upon this thread, I gave it a shot.

I lost two races, (1st with a wonderful choco, and the 2nd with a black choco; Theio was in the second race and got 5th) and selected my gold choco for the 3rd race and enemy away was in the prizes, so I blew away the competition and won enemy away within 10 min of looking at this thread. If only I would have known sooner!

Thanks for the suggestion. Saved me a lot of time.

I won it yesterday, by simply racing non stop.A real piece of shit if you ask me, because i could have used the gill, lure encounter, xp up, and encounter away materias on disk 1 or 2.The encounter materia don't even help much at all.

@oujisan2236 : Do not revive dead threads. Look at the date of the last post and if it's older than 3 months, DO NOT REPLY in it. If it's something you want to discuss, then make a new thread about it!

Don't worry, I think I can let that slide - welcome to the Shrine anyway. :D
