Not a boss, per se, but the special battles in the arena are MUCH harder...

Every arena boss is so much harder then Jecht. And if you want a real challenge, then I suggest unlocking Nemesis (capture 10 of each species) and defeat ALL arena bosses. Good luck with that.

There are MANY bosses harder than him. Compared to the moster arena's creatures......he's a joke. he's like 1/100 of Nemesis.

Yep, if u have the int. versions try the Dark Aeons, then the final one (Pandemonium or something like that...)

Seymour Flux and Yunalesca are way harder than Jecht. And yes Monster arena too

There are a few harder enemies in the game...

- The original creations from the Monster Arena. They're pretty hard. I dunno about area and spiecies creations but they can be easy if you really know what you're doing. A majority of the Originals are much harder...
- Nemesis. He's the hardest enemy in the game if you have the US or first edition JP version. He's the last Original monster but you have to capture 10 of every fiend to get him...
- Dark Aeons. They're MUCH harder (although if you use Yojimbo...) but you can only fight 'em in the PAL or International versions. That can be good and bad for us w/the reg. version.
- Penance. He's the hardest foe in the FFX world. But only in the PAL/Int. versions... I heard he IS VERY HARD... But I dunno for sure...

if you have money and want a challenge, buy a Mod Chip (preferrably the Messiah Chip since its the best for imported games) and install it. keep it mind once you open your ps2 up your warranty goes *POOF*. and import FF10: International from some Euro country (not japan since it'll be japanese).

then beat all the dark aeons and defeat Penance. a guy wrote up a strategy for him for EVERY move he did [with max stats (even 99,999 HP)] and it took him about an hour and a half.

penance is really hard. i would took him on, but i dont have $200 for the mod chip and importing the game......

Yeah there isn't much more than Monster Arena in the US version, but if you had say the Europe or International version, then Penance and the Dark Aeons would certainly satisfy you need for a harder challenge. (Especially Penance he is one mean fucker, he is extremly hard to beat)

So I would if you want to buy a mod chip, I would just stick with Monster Arena.

Make challenges for yourself... go in with half hitpoints, or use only default weapons. Thats the key to keeping the game interesting. Or try to beat him using only one person or something. (either monster arena or Jecht)

there were TONS of enemies harder than Jecht. virtually every monster in the Omega Ruins (which kicked my arse, by the way) and the monster ranchers bogies. gosh. i thought the entire ending was easy, just like in ff9. r they all going to be easy from now on?

yah, but once u max out ur stats, using the AP glitch of course, everything is easy.... one of the problems with doing that...

I spent about 1/2 an hour doing that glitch.. at once, stupid toneberrys, I had to haste it to make it worth while.

Penance isn't all that hard if you have a good strategy, its all about sticking to your plan. I beat him recently and it is very tempting every now and then to quick hit instead of healing but if you don't stick to your plan you will not make it.

A few interesting facts about Penance:

1. You must defeat all of the Dark Aeons before fighting it.
2. You have to fight it on the Airship where you fought Evrae.
3. It has 12,000,000 HP, with regenerative arms like Ultima Buster.
4. It has a few maxed out stats, like speed, accuracy, and I'm guessing both defenses.

I'd think twice before buying a chip just to get your ass kicked, MA. ;)

Yes, it does have completly maxed out stats and is immune to most effects. The key to killing it is auto life and auto potion, What you do is sell all the potions you have except X-Potions, make sure the armor u have equipped has auto potion. Everytime you go below half life you'll use a X-Potion. Cast auto-life on everyone. You'll want your HP as close as you can to 20000 or more and you'll want a damage break weapon (preferable ur ultimate) with your strength maxed out. Max out your luck and accuracy, and don't worry about evasion even with 255 he'll still hit you. Speed should be maxed on all ur characters, have Yuna cast shell, etc, and hastega. Make sure everyone has maxed Defense for both types.

Knock out the arms asap and just pound the crap outta the body, even with his maxed defense if u've got ur strength maxed u should do around 30000 damage to him a hit. By having around 20000 hp he can't kill you in 2 hits, which is key because then u'r auto potion for sure will work (Penance is bound by the 9999 damage rule). So in theory you don't need ur defense maxed, but it can't hurt. Just keep pounding away and u'll eventually kill him (hopefully). Should u run out of x-potions I hope you have elixirs, and Yuna should be defending every turn, so have her use a elixir or mega elixir everytime u get below half (I don't think Auto-Potion will chuck elixers, but I'm not sure).

Nah, I don't think Auto-Potion will touch your Elixirs.

X-Potion - only in the International Version, right? I always wondered why there weren't any X-Potions. Now I know. Man, I guess the International Version players really do get all the good stuff.
