According to the FF Wiki, the second highest recurring boss battle in FF history is actually Ormi from FFX-2. It doesn't say who the highest recurring ever is though. Any ideas? Reno has to be up there from FF7.

You fight Seifer 4 times in FF8, so he's probably one.

From what I remember, Reno only has 1 mandatory battle (at the top of the Sector 7 pillar). You'll probably fight him outside Gongaga Village too, but I think that is still technically an optional battle nevetheless (you could just drive straight past it to Cosmo Canyon, although most people wouldn't do that). His other two fights are completely optional (Sunken Gelnika and Midgard Tunnels).

So that's potential battles, but only 1 mandatory battle. I think Seifer beats him, because all Seifer's fights are mandatory (and you even use him a character yourself at one point).

I seem to remember that you fight Ultros quite a lot - at least 3 times if my memory serves (I remember fighting him on a raft, in the theatre and in a mountain cave somewhere).

Yeah, maybe you're right. Ultros and Seifer are up there, as well as Beatrix, Logos, Leblanc, Seymour, Jenova, Gilgamesh, Fujin, Raijin,... I can't think of anymore at present. I just think Ormi has more than these guys.

Its been a while, but I think Ormi has about 4 fights. There's one in Luca in the intro, one outside the Mt Gagazet ruins, one in Leblanc's hideout and one near the top of MT Gagazet proper, I think. He might have more, but I don't remember them right now. I certainly don't consider him a particularly memorable villain...

Ormi is fought 7 times, counting all the times he's with Logos and Leblanc. Logos is fought 6 times, counting all the times he's with Ormi and Leblanc. Seymour, Seifer, Ultros, Jenova, and Leblanc are tied with 4. Beatrix has 3 battles. Fujin/Raijin and Biggs/Wedge (FFVIII) have only 2 encounters each.

I suppose you could make a case for X-ATM092 (FFVIII) being one of the most encountered bosses because you can fight it as many times as you want. According to FFWiki, you can knock its HP down to zero and be rewarded with AP at least up to 15 times, so...

Raijin has 3 seperate fights - once outside the hotel with 2 Galbadian soldiers, once inside the hotel with Fujin and once on the Lunatic Pandora with Fujin again.

And I don't think you can count the Spidertron thing - its kind of a special case, and you its really just a multi-part battle with some optional running away in between. (Then again, Raijin's 1st and 2nd fights are pretty similar, as are Seifer's 2nd and 3rd fights). It still feels wrong to call the spider as the most recurring though.

And if we're talking about battles that can be avoided, then X-ATMO92 doesn't count, how many times do you have to ACUTALLY fight it? I usually fight it twice. But yeah, that might be their #1 recurring boss battle in that case.

You only have to fight it once. But there are a few points where it can be hard to avoid, especially if you don't know about its method. The first is where Selphie jumps off a cliff, the robot jumps up really fast, so if you're not running immediately once the screen loads, you have to fight it again. The second is the staircase, where it makes your party stagger in place if you're not walking. The third is where it jumps to the right over your party on the bridge, and the fourth is where it jumps to the left over the party on the bridge. I've only played it once where I only had to fight it one time total.

You only battle him in FF5 and FF12 don't you? Granted the total combined is probably high.

According to FFwiki, Gilgamesh appears as a boss in the FF1 remakes (Dawn of Souls and 20th Anniversary), FFIV The After Years, 3 times in FFV, once in the Game Boy Advance version of FFVI, twice in FFXII, and is set to be a boss in Final Fantasy Type-0. So that's a total of 9 boss fights across the series. Is that our winner?

Are they all forced battles or can you skip any of them? I know for sure that FF12's can be avoided.

And can he really be a winner, if he is spread across so many games, and is never really a villain in the truest sense of the word, anyway?
