Hope
Dedicated to Megan, for whom it was written. During a PCB101 Lecture.

The road we walk upon is long,
And the darkness that falls is deep.
Time tears at the heart and soul,
I fall, I despair and I weep.

I

Injustice rules, and this day I fear,
For unsubstantial things that wrongly harm.
I fear that light will never come,
That the night has taken your palm.

Oh, how I yearn for your touch!
Our love, your kiss and tender embrace.
Is this yearning wrong, my desire evil?
I cannot believe this, in the light of your grace.

My life for yours I would freely give,
And protect you from all earthly wrong.
Yet in this instance I am weak
A useless pulse in fates throng.

I am useless to you, yet still you love me
As I adore you, and wish for peace.
The chance to share our love in harmony,
And to live our lives together, in ease.

We are but pawns of the fate God gives,
And at times this causes great pain.
For the strong, hope shall carry through
For the weak, faith shall wane.

Faith and hope are parts of one whole,
The Love that is our divine Lord.
It is to faith and hope that we must hold,
til fate carries us to a different board.

II

Fear not, my darling, the worst is done.
Your imprisonment of heart at an end.
Though life may still prove hard for a while,
Our love it cannot, and will not end.

One day the dawn shall smile upon us,
And we will be joined forever.
Our lives will pass in peace and harmony,
And all the pain God himself will sever.

Until then, life can still be good
We still have each the other one.
I know now I cannot live without you,
And need not worry for love has won.

So remember this, and to God I pray,
That you will believe this in your heart.
As long as our love remains in our soul,
Nothing, no-one, can tear us apart.

This final promise is all I can give you,
For I am powerless to do all else.
I will love you until the end of time,
Through eternity, as my soul swells.

I gave you my heart, my soul and my trust,
And in return you gave me yours.
I hold them now and cherish them,
To each of their very cores.

Love is pure, love is kind, its essence is divine
It remains even after the end of time.
Love remains, and so will I
To embrace you as we cry.

L.

I love you, Megan.
