Often times when people post music from World of Warcraft it is the released soundtracks. However, the problem here is these are often incomplete since whenever the game gets a major update more music is added. On the other hand, when people post the "complete" soundtracks for each expansion pack, it is an unorganized mess, with the only sort of organization being the sometimes very vague filenames.

You will get neither here. As is expected of the rest of my gamerips, I will organize each new set of music into a coherent soundtrack, with album names you would expect in a commercial release, as well as my high quality covers.

That Russell guy really made WOW music sound like Disney cartoon.

That Russell guy really made WOW music sound like Disney cartoon.

I respectfully call horseshit on that. Before Brower came along, minus the cinematic work by Jason Hayes, World of Warcraft had very bleh music. It was very ambient in nature, with little in the way of recognizable themes or good melody. I am not saying that it is Mozart now, but it is very easy to see the difference in quality between Pre-The Burning Crusade and The Burning Crusade. The music has only gotten better and better with each expansion pack, and it has reached an all new height with "Rage of the Firelands".

I am not questioning his composition skill but his tendency to write melodies for Disney like kids fantasy, little reminder, high elf's theme in BC and the melody in the letter half of CATACLYSM theme. How many memorable tunes are created by Russell starcraft 2 theme and probably the last track on the BC soundtrack, how many by Jason? These kept being repeated again and again in all the expansion track. It is such a pain that Russell have to rip every tune created by Jason in ALL cinematics, this is a testimony to how good these tunes are but also Russell's inability to write something better. CATACLYSM really shows that the team had run out of tunes.

Russell got good orchestral and sound engineering skills, no doubt. But given that the music department of blizzard got huge boost in budget since WOW, I feel hiring someone with the talent to create something totally original can help counter balance someone like Russell.

Aww, there's some problems.

First of all 4.1 has multiple same tracks included, and the order seems wrong too. 4.2 has "Bethek" from 4.1 in it, it shouldn't.
And finally, none of the tracks have fade out :<

Okay, so I JUST saw this post. Sorry for the two month delay in an answer! :p

Anyways, I just did a quick listen of 4.1 and 4.2. I see no idea where you are coming from saying Bethek is in 4.2 - there is no track that sounds even remotely like it whatsoever. Can you specify which file you are referring to?

As for the multiple same track issue in 4.1, it's more like the same theme but with differences that plays in different areas. And yeah it's not chronologically right...but the dungeon wasn't linear! For the most part, you could do it in whatever order the raid desired, although there was a set suggested route. So, there was no "right" order in this regard.

As for fade out, I don't ever do fade out, and I don't think I ever will. I try to preserve the tracks in-game as much as I possibly can. Somewhat contradictory considering I merge several of them into themes, but I try.

Thank you for this, but Andrees is right - "Rise of the Zandalari" indeed has some multiple tracks included, namely aforementioned "Bethekk", "The Temple of the Panther", "The Coil", "Bloodlord Mandokir", "Cache of Madness", "The Devil's Terrace" and "Devils". I'm not saying that you did something wrong, perhaps it is our fault. I've never played WoW (I like the music though), so the order of the tracks doesn't matter to me, but those tracks I named are somewhat disturbing. But hey, thanks anyway.

Hint: Neal Acree does all of the really good stuff with Hour of Twilight. Of course, I do have a thing for heavy handed chorus focused action cues, so I am somewhat biased.

But seriously though, Brower does some pretty decent stuff. 4.2 had some good stuff, and 4.1 opens up with a piece I [i]know[i] you will love. If you don't, I will eat my own shoe.

Well, it wasn't in the patch file - each patch is pretty much an archive file, an MPQ. I took ALL of the music files from the patch file. So, that obviously was not in there.

EDIT: I found the Darkmoon Faire music - they were in a different folder in the same .MPQ that I had overlooked somehow. I've edited them in, so I am uploading the updated version now.

I used MPQEditor to open the .MPQ files that holds not just the music, but pretty much everything in a Blizzard game. Blizzard has been using .MPQ since...well, for most of it's history. I think it started with the original Diablo. So, yes, MPQEditor can be used for any Blizzard game - even the beta of Diablo III uses it.

When the patch is first released, they are given their own .MPQ. However, once the next big patch rolls around they are merged into the bigger .MPQ's, like Sound or Art.

As for the covers, I made them myself. I may not be an expert, but I know some ways around Photoshop. The toughest part is finding a good piece of artwork that is not "limited" by the logos. 4.3 was interesting in that there have been NO wallpapers released for it! All of the other patches in WoW's history were given a wallpaper weeks beforehand. So I had to go with a screenshot.

Thanks very much for making all of these available again :-)

Now, what would be the best "complete soundtrack" for the base game of WOW to accompany these? Is there a complete version that matches the great work Doublehex has done with his releases (regarding completeness, editing, naming, etc.)?

Doublehex
06-16-2012, 02:06 AM
Well, to be frank, vanilla woW really doesn't have much of any sort of memorable music beyond what you get in the soundtrack release. They are all very short, 30-45 seconds long, and are very ambient. So I would say you already do have a pretty darn good release! It just so happens it was done by Blizzard.

Laserschwert
06-16-2012, 02:24 AM
I get the slight feeling you don't like the vanilla soundtrack ;-)

It might be nice to have it complete as well, even if I'll never listen to most of it... after all I guess I won't listen to all the expansion music all the time either - after a while you just have your favorite tracks and stick to those.

Just wanted to say thank you, its very nice to have all this music all organized and especially with the nice artwork.

Also because you have done such a good job with the added patch music, have you considered doing uploads for any of the old zones or any dungeons? I say this because new music was added into the game when cataclysm was released, but it was never released on the official soundtrack. For e.g "Dun Morogh" and "Tanaris" has some very nice ambient music that isn't available anywhere. Also there has been music added into the pvp battlegrounds that isn't available anywhere else aswell.

So ah guys I owe you something of an apology. Had this lying on my HD for like a month, and I didn't upload it because Blizz decided not to release a wallpaper of any kind. I finally decided to just say "Fuck 'em", took a wallpaper from the MoP Cinematic and adapted that as the cover.

Haha, held back the release for a wallpaper! But thanks nonetheless.

Was there any Expansion music for patch 1.11 Shadow of the Necropolis???
Shadow of the Necropolis - Game Guide - World of Warcraft (http://us.battle.net/wow/en/game/patch-notes/1-11)

Also, any chance for a better cover for Call of the Crusade? It's the wallpaper, but AR looks funky.

PS - Hella good job. I <3 music, especially scores. So this music rocks, besides running while I play WarCrack. ;p

And yet, where you can download gamerip the original World of Warcraft with numbered tracks, as for example at Doublehex ?

Well, kinda good news, I looked through some OLD backups & I do have patch 1.11 & 1.12. Bad news is, they are the EXE installers, so I'm not sure how to extract anything from it, let alone on my Mac. ;p

Reidor
02-15-2013, 02:11 PM
What patch EXE format, I think it's not a problem.

You can for example, take a copy of the client, open the program MPQ editor, make a couple of screenshots from the audio content, and then the patch.
And after you installed the patch, you can re-open the client the above mentioned programs and compare the screenshots contained in the client audio files.

Sounds crazy, but maybe something good, this is.

In general, the music of the patch 1.9 and 1.11.
Only just saying composition broken. They need quality glue like Doublehex.
And if possible, rename them to the correct name.

Patch 1.9 (Ahn'Qiraj) - Download (http://www39.zippyshare.com/v/48921800/file.html)
Patch 1.11 (Naxxramas) - Download (http://www21.zippyshare.com/v/98557665/file.html)

Hopefully, in the archives of all the tracks that have been added in these patches.

are the only patches from the 1.xx era the 1.9 and 1.11?

Doublehex
02-16-2013, 11:30 PM
5.2 "RISE OF THE THUNDER KING (http://www.mediafire.com/?zo536fhq5dlmuag).

The folder image in there is 50% done - I just need a logo from some official source. I don't feel like withholding it like I did with 5.1 Landfall. So, this patch had the second largest content of music behind 3.3's Fall of the Lich King. It's understandable why - Blizz put in a new daily quest zone, an epic quest that has players running all over the place, and an absolutely enormous raid.

Anyways, I would like to make note that I have added a Paypal donation button to the very bottom of the opening post. I have been out of work for a year now, and I am quite understandably running low on funds. So of course, anything you guys can spare is appreciated. You don't need to send anything my way!

Enjoy the music guys. I'll see you for 5.3.

are the only patches from the 1.xx era the 1.9 and 1.11?
No, Classic had 12 major content patches.

1.1 "World of Warcraft"
1.2 "Mysteries of Maraudon"
1.3 "Ruins of the Dire Maul"
1.4 "The Call to War"
1.5 "Battlegrounds"
1.6 "Assault on Blackwing Lair"
1.7 "Rise of the Blood God"
1.8 "Dragons of Nightmare"
1.9 "The Gates of Ahn'Qiraj"
1.10 "Storms of Azeroth"
1.11 "Shadow of the Necropolis"
1.12 "Drums of War"

At this point, going back and dividing the Classic audio into individual patches would probably be kind of a pain in the ass, but if anyone wants to go through each patch and organize the music as it was introduced, gamefront.com has manual patch mirrors for all of Classic, from 1.1.0 to 1.12.1.

World of Warcraft | Files | Official Patches | Game Front (http://www.gamefront.com/files/listing/pub2/World_of_Warcraft/Official_Patches)

You'd just start out by installing from the original retail discs (I'm not sure offhand what game version they have, probably 1.0.1), and then start manually patching from there.

Doublehex
02-18-2013, 06:09 PM
Well, I just dug through the files and the only sort of patch that seemed to have any music would be 1.09, "Gates of Ahn'Qiraj". I'll see if I can get a soundtrack of that out by the end of the week. 1.11 also had music, but like I said I put that into my Wrath of the Lich King soundtrack, since Naxxramas was remade into a raid for that expansion. The tracks go from #62 to #71.

Doublehex
02-28-2013, 04:11 AM

Check in wow-update-base-16844.mpq. It's literally just over 3 minutes of music though, and they're pretty much just slight rearrangements of tracks from 5.2. Out of the 5.0's patches which one had the best music?

5.1 - "Landfall"
5.2 - "Rise of the Thunder King"
5.3 - "Escalation" & 5.4 - "The Siege of Orgrimmar"

It's a hard call for me, but I think I have to go with the Landfall, such a fantastic patch for music.

TS2000
09-15-2013, 12:26 AM
I'd have to go with Landfall as well. Just about every track written for that patch was a winner, plus it marked the return of Jason Hayes to Blizzard after being gone for years. At the same time though, the stuff written for 5.4 is nothing to slouch about. The Sha music Edo Guidotti wrote is amazing; such powerful choir-work. I also loved all the little thematic reprisals. The Stormwind quotes in "No Quarter" are haunting, and the Orgrimmar percussion in "Mok-Rah" is a nice little callback. Plus it was great that they were able to sneak in a big "finale" piece with that Vale cue.

MoP, in my opinion at least, has had some of the best music written for this game. It's melodically strong, thematically rich, and instrumentally diverse. I can't wait to see what these guys cook up next.

There will be music from the pre-Cataclysm patch?

As far as I know, the patch between wotlk and cataclysm added about 30 minutes of music for the operation of the battle for Gnomeregan and the Echo Isles.

No it is not, this music was added later in the transition from the Lich patch for cataclysm. It is even on YouTube, but there is not the exact names and the like.

In your assemblies that music unfortunately no ...

Zalazane's Fall:
The Echo Isles & Darkspear Trolls - Cataclysm Music - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_FGB-mK1pQ)

Battle for Gnomeregan:
Cataclysm Soundtrack - Battle for Gnomeregan - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xzt17tMBx3k)

Here the music is not available in your compilations.

WoW 3.3 - Fall of the Lich King
#28 - Battle for Gnomeregan - 5:23
#29 - The Echo Isles & Darkspear Trolls - 14:06

WoW 5.4 "Th e Siege of Orgrimmar"
#23 - Timeless Isle - 7:11 minutes

Sorry dude, I just saw that this was posted. I'll see how I can manage. Do you know if there was a patch number it was associated with? Or should I associate it with one of my prior release?

These sound, note for note, like Valley of the Four Winds tracks. A few of those were scattered in the directory that had 5.4's pieces (Same file names and everything). I'm pretty sure you've already arranged those, so I don't think there's anything to really rip.

In general, the music I got from the patch 3.3.5, but since patch 3.3 has a rip, then I think it would be logical to associate this music with patch 4.0.1.

Well, to name a rip in the following way - "The Shattering"

Because these events occurred before the cataclysm.

Sorry if this is a little off topic, but does anybody know some official composer informations about the original soundtracks, who composed which track? For example, for the very first World of Warcraft Soundtrack, The Burning Crusade or the recent Mists of Pandaria? For the latter, I was very curious in Jeremy Soule's involvement, but I guess he composed "Serpent Riders!?"

I was somewhat worried that, since this new expansion hugely references The Burning Crusade, that things would revert back to more atmospheric and ambient music, which personally isn't to my taste. From what I hear of the previews though, things are shaping up great. They're quoting a lot of the themes introduced in that expansion, but they're focusing on the melodic ones, and expanding on them from there.

Good God, Magnificent Desolation is just gorgeous. Russell's outdone himself.

31 tracks were found for 6.2 in the Draenor music folder. I did not go through and clean up the names as I do not have the time right now. I encourage to extract the files yourself or download the zip, rename them accordingly, and share here with others.
