1. Roar! - 12:17

Cloverfield - Michael Giacchino (http://www.mediafire.com/?rvilyccs61161bl)

This is from Little Jacket Music, its not Varese, unlike most of Giacchino's other stuff :p

Enjoy!

Interesting music, but it matches at the end of the film, in credits. :) Good to listen it!

It's indeed a good piece of music, although hardly original to anyone slightly familiar with Akira Ifukube music made for the various Godzilla movies, but is still very cool that Giacchino pays a musical homage to Ifukube in this piece.

The homage is of course completely the point of this suite :)

I was wondering whether or not that 12 minutes-long version was edited on cd (within compilations or stuff like that), if anyone knows ?
Anyway, it would be great if someone was able to reupload the file !

AFAIK this is the full version of the end credits. Only this was recorded for the film, no other music was played throughout it. So in a sense, this is a 'complete score' lol

Thanks very much for the link !
Yeah, actually I am aware this is the full version of Giacchino's work, and the one that was released on itunes. In fact, I thought maybe this complete version has also been released on cd among other compositions from other movies, in sort of compilations you know... It seems unlikely, but who knows ?

Hahaha, the flac is indeed what I have been unsuccessfully looking for ever since I heard this masterpiece for the first time ! Damn, I was like... You can guess how I was like =D
Anyway, since that's the best quality we can have, let's enjoy it !

Well. Thinking about it, the Blu Ray release has the music over the end credits, obviously in lossless. Just need someone to rip that. Thanks for the upload!

Just to clarify, the complete piece as recorded is 12:18. It is significantly shorter (9:31) in the film and has noises playing over the first sixty seconds or so.

Those covers are not done by me. I assume the 9'58" is playing time, but as Tango said... it is actually 12:17 length.

Slap the covers in Photoshop and change that. :)

With respect and gratitude, this is from a lossy source - almost certainly the 256kbps M4A originally for sale at iTunes. In short, a transcode.

I was a little afraid it would be the case, but what makes you say the source is lossy ? Is there any way to know it for sure ?
But if you're right, it makes it less interesting, unfortunately. I mean, there's no point in converting a 256kbps M4A file into a FLAC one, isn't it ?

tangotreats

1. It sounds like AAC.
2. The spectral scan has a hard lowpass at 20,000hz and graduated amplitude-dependent filters (ie, loud stuff gets through, quiet stuff is cut) at 18,000, 16,000, and 15,000hz - all hallmarks of lossy encoding and of AAC in particular.
3. The spectral scan of the AAC and this fake FLAC are more-or-less identical except the FLAC has noise - suggesting that the AAC was poorly decoded (or resampled, introducing dither noise) prior to burning.
4. This was never released so any CD will be a bootleg - and the only possible source other than from Giacchino himself is the iTunes 256kbps AAC.
5. A Korean website which catalogued this CD says: "Unfortunately, 'Roar!' Commercial album was not released. meet, but in the form of files from the iTunes music CD comes in the form of the EP (Extended Play), enshrined Pro neolyong (MGCD-01) as a composer from a small amount has been deployed to all." - mangled English but clear meaning.

IN any case, which is more likely?

a) Michael Giacchino or somebody close to him has "accidentally" leaked a lossless copy of "Roar!", which found its way on to a limited printing CD-R collector's release... or
b) Some opportunist burned some CDs from the iTunes download and tried to make a few quid selling them on eBay / through collector's channels?

Answers on a postcard... ;)

I do NOT blame the gentleman who posted the album. I am merely passing on facts. This is not FLAC. It's a recode. Unless you're Giacchino or one of probably half a dozen other people in the world, lossless does not exist. Giacchino himself probably doesn't even have it any more. This was, after all, a short throwaway piece designed to homage Akira Ifukube. It probably doesn't mean much to him.

Aaah, it kills me but you're right =(
Why don't we all just write to Giacchino, asking him to deliver that damn lossless version we (or at least I) want ? lol

Thanks for the info, Tango.

This was actually received as a bonus to purchases made from BSX Records. So, I guess wherever he (Mark Banning) got those, I guess we'd have to enquire with him.

A right crooked bunch, they are. I believe any company which has Ford A. Thaxton on the payroll should be viewed with extreme suspicion...

ZeekePullman503
10-27-2012, 06:58 PM
And this is why I think Giacchino should score the 2014 Godzilla Remake. Well of course this, Star Trek, and Super 8 alos makes me think that as well XD.

Elvinhawke
10-27-2012, 10:11 PM
lol Tango,

How right you are!

I quit buying from BSX several years ago. The first few times I purchased from them, all was good. Then the steady decline happened. Items out of stock, wrong items sent, receiving discs that just "spun" in the cd player and wouldn't read/play.... the list goes on and on.

So unfortunately, I don't recommend them to anyone. It's sad really, because they do have some releases that are beneficial. If I was a composer, I sure wouldn't use BSX to hawk my wares though.

yeeesh...

Most people who are after BSX releases usually get them from SA or some other merchant. Folk learned the hard way that placing an order with them is a lottery; sometimes it works out fine, sometimes nothing happens and they ignore you until you threaten them in public (usually on FSM's forum) - snivelling Mark Banning invariably crawls out from under his rock with some utter cobblers ("We lost your email address / We tried to contact you but you never answered the phone / We despatched the goods, honest! But we don't have a tracking number because my dog ate it") then grudgingly sorts it out.

Either that or somebody asks a sensible question about a release and Thaxton appears telling them to stick their enquiry up their bottom in his trademark mixture of humiliating illiteracy and infuriating condescension.

That combined with the trash they release. Occasionally, good stuff - but I can do without cheap synth re-recordings of Chinatown (Goldsmith is turning in his grave) and cash-grab chamber renditions of "themes" from Twilight. Scraping the bottom of the barrel, are we, eh, Thaxton? What's the matter? No real musicians willing to work with you? No producers worth a damn willing to entrust their product to your slipshod care? ;)
