Just noticed this listed on the FFXI Website: FINAL FANTASY XI Official Web Site (http://www.playonline.com/ff11eu/polnews/news20815.shtml)

In the interests of the continued improvements to our online security and general user friendliness throughout all of our online services, we are planning to change customer PlayOnline (POL) accounts to Square Enix accounts starting at the end of July.

We will also be transferring member information functions and billing procedures to the Square Enix management system, which we believe will offer customers improved ease-of-use. Apart from this, the POL viewer, used to log into the game, will otherwise remain unchanged.

Please click on the SQUARE ENIX Support Centre (http://support.eu.square-enix.com/j/kb59527gb) for details on what functions will be carried over.

These changes are scheduled to take place from end of July 2011 August 31st 2011.

NOTE: Users will need a Square Enix account to complete the migration process. Setting up an account ahead of time will reduce the steps needed when making these changes, allowing the process to be completed more smoothly.

Please click here to register a Square Enix account:
https://secure.square-enix.com/account/app/svc/register
※Customers who use Square Enix security tokens only need to complete transition procedures if they already hold a Square Enix account.

Full details on how to complete the account migration process will be available via the homepage at the end of July and may also be found in the Square Enix Support Centre FAQ. We aim to provide user-friendly procedures on this page to help with account migration.

We hope this causes minimal inconvenience and we thank you for your full cooperation.

I must say I was expecting this to happen eventually, and it looks like it now has. I'm wondering though if this is just a push to get people to play FFXIV (which already uses the SE Account system).

Well, as long as the conventional payment system is retained (all that SE has stated in the link given above is that the newer systems used by FFXIV will now be available for use as a payment option for FFXI seems to suggest the conventional payment method system will be retained) I'm not really that concerned by it, as I already have a SE Account (which I use with FFXIV).

Either way, yet another part of PlayOnline is to be disposed of. :(

.... SE, SE, SE... how you love to screw over players of your games...

Methinx it's time to put my Artifact Armor away, close and lock my mog house... let my moogle fly free and walk away from Vana'diel and say "HELLO THE OLD REPUBLIC!!!"

LOL This is so sad, as I actually enjoyed Play Online and it's features, and kinda wish that majority of MMOs had a similar system in place.

However while FFXI is showing signs of it's age, and by today's standards is somewhat of a chore to play, I had to lock up my Mog House also.

Motherfucking Guild Wars 2 bitches ;D

I HATE GUILD WARS 2!!!

Played it, hated it, deleted it off my system, shoved the damn disc down the throat of the person who loaned me their copy and demanded my time back!

Was the thing even released?

Guild Wars 1 seemed to me kinda fast-paced for an MMO, which is something you don't usually see.

I meant Guild Wars... Apparently ArenaNet will be conducting small closed alpha and beta tests for GW2 sometime this year...

As I hated the first GW, my expectations for it's sequel aren't high at all.

The second GW is NOTHING like the first one. They are completely different styles of MMO.

I played GW1 for a bit and thought it was okay... but nothing special.

But GW2 is gonna blow everyone's minds by revolutionising the MMORPG genre.

... until Star Wars The Old Republic that is.

Agreed. The sooner Bioware unleashes that juggernaut the better (I mean, even Blizzard is scared by it, which is saying something :p).

Don't get me wrong though. I love FFXI still. As a result, I won't abandon FFXI entirely, but I'll probably be spending more time boring holes in Sith in the 'galaxy far far away' than in Vana'diel thinning out goblins and Yagudo once The Old Republic is finally released. ;)

You'll have to keep me posted on how good TOR is when it's released. I do miss gaming with you both.

WoW is good but the content patches seem very scarce and a lot of people are getting bored with endgame and leveling alts (me included)

I have a feeling that after Rift has their major content update and The Old Republic gets released, Blizzard will unleash either another expansion or a MAJOR content update. If they don't, they're going to lose so many players.

I used to play wow,but that was in 2009 and then i got hacked and stopped playing.
I was kinda bored with blizzard nerfing one class to death and buffing the other to death.

I don't think Blizzard is that scared by it haha. They have Diablo 3 coming out, which has (from what I've seen) more hype than SWTOR. Also, never ever underestimate the MMO community. WoW set some really high bars that are not going to be easy to top (as proven by Rift, Aion, Warhammer, and all that stupid shit). Things that impressed us 2 years ago, won't impress us today. SWOTR has to bring an extremely seamless leveling experience with extremely little grind, smooth PVP that is not a copy of the one WoW has (GWARS 2 baby i love you), and in the end...an endgame that is fantastic and one that is regularly released. It's not something that is easy to do and I don't think Bioware is a better company than Blizzard at this sort of thing. BUT WHO KNOWS RIGHT ;)?

THAT SAID, BRING ON GUILD WARS 2. It's gonna be fucking amazing. That and Dota 2.
