Seriously? It sounds so terribly generic to me. I mean, it's all electronic ambient. What tracks here make this one of the greatest scores of all time? What tracks are engagig - have memorable, recognizable themes and tunes? Has an impact on your emotions, floors you with the complexity of it's writing?

Well for me the memorable ones are the main theme which is in the credits and the intense combat themes with the guitars/drums and electronics. I mean you'd have to play the game to really appreciate the dynamic and itneractivity of the score to really understand it. Listen to back alley and exploration combat tracks.

Boss themes are quite interesting as well.

That is all fine and all, but let's be realistic here. If we have to say that you have to appreciate how a score works from within a game in order to see how good it is, then you can't say it is one of the best game scores of all time. The theme from Mario Bros. is a great score, because it is memorable both within and outside of it's source material. The score for Advent Rising is great, regardless of if you are listening to it in-game outside.

Besides, most of the tracks here are pretty forgettable. Hardly a candidate for "one of the best game scores ever".

That's a bunch of horse shit. Western composers have done some of the best music of all time. Your country of origin has no bearing on the quality of your music: it is all about your skill.

You can't categorize western scores as being generic, They may not have the most memorable or outstanding themes as eastern japanese stuff but most western scores are pretty good. Also just cuz square enix publishes doesn't mean theres gonna be some overrated hyped up eastern composer in it.

Yes but most people seem to turn a def ear to western scores because they sound like movie soundtracks, Which is not a bad thing at all since movie scores are quite awesome. Eastern music To me is a bit to on the cheery side with the exception of the devil may cry series, now those scores are awesome.

Eastern composers fluctuate just as much as their Western counterparts. Princess Mononoke enters the dark realm on several occasions, as does Noein, Break Blade, Casshan Legemds, Death Note, and of course RAN (amongst hundreds of others I can't think of right now).

Almost every track of this score sounds like Double Agent but many many times worse. The only exception is early DX:HR - 'Icarus' - E3 Trailer track. It blows the mind. Totally awesome.

But the first part of ingame music is a bullshit. 3 hours of boredom.

K - was linked to here from the Eidos Forum - thinking the whole soundtrack was released. Now I see what this is. Why are people even judging this? This is a bunch of ripped fragments and loops of layered tracks from the pre-build BETA leak of the game - and a leak that is only a fraction of the game anyway. I was wondering why it was 3 hours long - and then realized, the tracks just loop over and over. And a lot of it is just miscellaneous background cues like "Sewer Ambience" lol. It's a total waste of time to listen to - has no arrangements, no dynamics (like when you play the game), no cinematic themes, it only covers the length of the leak version, doesn't have the Unatco remix, opening credits or anything beyond the first city hub (there are supposedly 3), and who even knows what's finished / complete anyway.

The last 4 or 5 in-game trailer have used in-game music (Eidos has said so on their forums), and virtually none of it is included in these files. Example of one trailer:

Yeah, but as OJ said, the game uses layered music, which means you would either have to mix the layers yourself or just take it as it comes (which may sound less then optimal -- I'm listening to the music as I write this and I can see why some people think the music feels kinda bland).
