Who would you want it to be?

Also if you like give your opinion on who is "most likely" to actually score an eventual Final Fantasy 15. :D

The way SE's losing money at this time... I doubt there'll be a FFXV.

Oh, enough with your Square Enix doom and gloom G! They're not going to go the way of Atari just yet! :p

There will be a FFXV (the last I heard on the subject Square Enix stated they were 'looking at different concepts and possibilities' for it), but it will just be a while before we hear anything concrete on it. And, tying in with the thread's subject, there can only be one composer for FFXV - FF's maestro Nobuo Uematsu himself. :)

Sure, his FFXIV compositions were a rather mixed bag (ranging from the awesome (Navigator's Glory, On Windy Meadows) to the cringeworthy (the majority of the battle themes), but he still has the talent and the means to make an awesome soundtrack if given the chance. Sakimoto, Nizuta, Hamauzu - great composers in their own right, but when it comes to composing for the FF series, only Uematsu can deliver a soundtrack that truly fits the series, given he was there from it's genesis. :)

I'd LOVE to hear a OST by Yoko Kanno.

definitely Nobuo Uematsu, the soundtracks he has composed are simply stunning (especially FF IX!)

I've really enjoyed what I've heard from Kumi Tanioka, so I'd be stoked to hear more work by her.

Uematsu's latest work is nothing but average. If given a chance, I know he could make few memorable tracks, but I doubt the overall work would hardly be as good as his previous.
Even though, I loved what Masahi Hamauzu did in FF X (heck the guy is responsible for my all time favorite FF track) his FF XIII work was very very disappointing, so for a while I have no desire to hear what this guy could offer.
That being said, the person right now I would like to see as FF XV composer is Hitoshi Sakimoto. His FF XII work was surprisingly decent, and given another chance I believe he might surprise us..... or not. But the best choice would be a collaboration between Junya Nakano, Yoko Shimomura and Hitoshi Sakimoto.

I've always been if the opinion that Mr. Uematsu can write a melody, but that's about it. It's been guys like Kenichiro Fukui and Shiro Hamaguchi who have fleshed out those melodies in things like The Black Mages, and Distant Worlds. However, after hearing some of the tracks from the FFXIV OST, like this; YouTube - ‪Final Fantasy XIV OST ~ Track 13‬‏ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5UQ7Lr4mVU) I was like, 'wtf this shit is pretty awesome!', so if he took the reigns for FFXV, and made a more prog rock/metal type score, I'd be all over that.

Depends on how FFXV will be presented. But, yeah, Uematsu it's the safe bet so far.
But I would certainly like to see an FF with Shimomura's music. That's why I'm interested on XIII Versus.

Yoko Shimomura

I love him but Nobuo have showed lack of inspiration in FF IX compositions and in FF X he probably hit bottom.
I mean, after 9 episodes, who wouldn't? He's still great but maybe not for FF series.

I Incline to agree, Give or take. Some songs of FFIX are top-notch and brilliant compositions.
Many many others songs are dull and boring, specially the battle/tension related ones.

I agree with a lot of what you say.

Firstly yes, Revan needs to stop being so depressingly catastrophic about SE and what they choose to do.

Secondly, I actually enjoy the FFXIV soundtrack... well most of it. Songs like "Twilight over Thanalan", "The Black Shroud", and the current music in Ul'dah (that they are playing for the anniversary) are great.

My vote goes to Nobuo also, while the FFXIV OST is definitely not his best work, I'm sure he could really write pieces that shine for FFXV.

Other - Motoi Sakuraba.

Play Baten Kaitos. You'll see why the FF series needs him.

I was about to comment on the revival of a dead thread, but what's the damn point? No one fucking cares.

I comment on Purrr's response. I'm allowed to voice myself in that way Purrr. IMO, SE has completely fucked up the series, and it's spiralling down into the deepest cell in Stygia. FF has lost a lot of what made it great and what we have currently (looking at XIII, XIII-2 and IV), the series is nothing like it used to be. Don't like what I said? I don't care.

I used to bother about telling people not to revive dead threads and even reported the necro'd thread to mods... nothing's done about a majority of them, so I just can't be bothered now. No one cares about it or even the other subforums here... mainly sticking to the anime/music download or GD sections.

Yeah that's why I don't come around so much anymore.

I remember when I first joined up. Had a blast here, posting with a ton of other people in all the FF forums. Then everyone started to trickle away.

Okay settle down kiddies. There's no need to get upset over this.

Yes, this is a pretty old thread, and yes, I've stated in the past that reviving old threads isn't the best way to score brownie points around here, this thread really isn't that old since it's last post (and I think it was still on the first page even before A-E revived it if I remember rightly). So I'm going to leave this thread active. Just play nice okay, ;)

Also Rev, don't be so negative about SE all the time. They're a company out to make a profit, hence they'll make decisions that may not always be the best in the long term or popular with their customers. It's just part of life sadly (even your own favourite developer Bioware is guilty of this - you've said so yourself with the whole ME3 ending debacle - but that's another barrel of moogles). But ah well.

*Expects a hiding from Revan the next time they meet for this :p *

Okay settle down kiddies. There's no need to get upset over this.

First, no one was upset here. If you mean my post in response to Purrr's... meh, so what?

Secondly... a thread with no active posts in it since May of last year, would constitute a dead thread. Therefore if anyone wants to discuss the topic of said thread, a new one should be made. However, whats the point of making note of this here? No one cares, so why should I?

Thirdly, I'm allowed to be negative of SE if I so desire. If I want to be more flaming in my negativity towards them, I can if I choose to do. I know companies have to make decisions which may or may not be beneficial to their series and/or fanbase... however, considering what SE has recently done to the FF series, come on... even you have to admit that you're not particularly fond of the direction they've taken the series Enkidoh. Regarding BioWare... if a thread about Mass Effect 3 is started, I'll continue this conversation there... suffice to say, a AAA listed game, having as much publicity drawn to it over the idiotic decisions to screw with the game (especially the goddamn ending) after a week from it's release, there's something seriously fucking wrong with it. Not to mention the online campaign at the moment to fix the ending but I digress...

*Expects a hiding from Revan the next time they meet for this :p *

This is a guarantee.
