Thanks. I wish this had done better and had gotten something like the battlestar galactica scores, an official release with a mix of the themes throughout the whole 2 seasons would have been great.

Will have to see if i can get the dvds at some point, as stargate dvds are always in 5.1, so should be able to try editing the audio to clear out a fair bit of effects, there are also a lot of really good musical cues throughout both seasons that really gave the show and the ship a personality.

Thanks! Joel Goldsmith really needs to get his music from this show released. It's as much of a source of frustration among fans as the saga of Vangelis not releasing a proper soundtrack to Blade Runner.

I've just downloaded the one from Mediafire, and the password works fine. If you're inputting the password manually try copy and pasteing it. Or vice-versa.

FACEPALM!!!!

Can't believe that, think this is Joel Goldsmith's best score for a series, i enjoyed the series, wasnt a massive supporter of it, but sorry to see it gone, but i really love JG's score as he really seemed to create a personality for the ship with it, every time there was a scene where the ship was doing something indipendently of the crew, the music really seemed to emphasis it, kinda like the ship itself was alive.

Does anyone know somewhere i can get rips of the audio from the episodes from DVD? I'm after the AC3(Dolby Digital) audio rips of the show, so i can try filtring them to get the score, any rips ive seen online have the audio compressed into mp3.

;D I know it has it's loyal followers ( not enough, apparently)...personally, I hated it. I feel it took the Stargate franchise and squeezed every last drip of fun and humor out of it in an attempt to recreate a new Battlestar like environment. I hated it.

But, I know Mr. Goldsmith is a good composer, and the music fits the show fine enough. Just has no interest for me....

**opens bottle of bubbly, and celebrates show's demise** :D (kidding, kidding. Mostly)

I think they gravely overdid the emo drama thing in the first season, which is what did it for a lot of people. The fact that the unofficial soundtrack has almost enough songs for one per episode is terrible considering that there were barely 1 per season for SG-1/Atlantis. In the second season (as usually happens with a show when it's been cancelled) the last 10 episodes actually were pretty damned good and started a decent arc.

Amanda
05-19-2011, 01:33 AM
It was not everyone's cup of tea. I never watched past the first three or so episodes, so, I dunno.I like the original's sort of glib take on things. I think it worked well for the show. Atlantis was a little more somber, but only by a bit. I admit, I wasn't too stoked for a new one anyway, I feel they have pretty well mined the concept. As much as I may miss the original, it was time to end it. And, I think it ought to stay ended.

What bothers me more, actually, is that there is no reason to turn sci-fi on.....they actually don't run any programming that appeals to me, and I think that's sad. It seems to be a lot of the "reality" based stuff, and wrestling (really? wrestling? ) And oddly enough, the place to catch good sci-fi, like Firefly, is the Science channel. (again, REALLY?) SGU came on shortly after the end of BSG, didn't it? Seems like it, anyway. Maybe BSG just burnt me out on the whole somber thing. I was going to catch up to SGU on demand, but then it got cancelled, so I didn't bother....

---------- Post added at 05:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:31 PM ----------

Well, there is Sanctuary, that doesn't really hold my interest. And, oh yea, that cooking show....:O! Yeesh.

Seems to be the general concensus now, i don't expect the channel to be around for much longer, at least not as anything remotely related to sci-fi, especially the way the f*cknuggets in charge are ru(i)nning it.

Thanks for the OST.

I actually prefer SGU to any other Stargate show. The original seemed too hokey for me to enjoy - whereas Universe had established an atmosphere of dread and danger from the very first episode. Even so, the characters still had moments of joy and triumph. I was actually emotionally invested in the outcome of each character's journey, something I couldn't establish with SG1 and Atlantis. I love how they kept it a strong serial and rarely threw out an procedural (one and done) episode.

As for Syfy - the pilot for Being Human was well done, but outside of that they have nothing to offer.

Okay, jumping a bit (I'll get back to Season 1 soon), here is music from Season 2's first disc; episodes 1-4. For people who are d/l this, should I leave the smaller 30 sec cues separate, or combine to make a suite of sorts?

These are great! Are you working with the 5.1 tracks from the DVD's or the Blu-Rays?

Incidentally, while I was tooling around with this stuff for the past two years waiting for Joel Goldsmith to release an official version I found that one of the tracks I'd attributed to him turned out to be a licensed piece like the pop songs employed in many of SGU's episodes. The last track in in Season 2, Episode 4 (Pathogen) is called "Ascolta" from the album "Divenire" by Ludovico Einaudi. I think the track earlier in the episode which echoes it is by Goldsmith, but I'm not sure.

Thanks for the outstanding work!

emaples - I'm using the dvds at the moment. I'll swap out the last track rip for 'Ascolta" soon as I can. Thanks for finding the 'Divenire' album, some GORGEOUS stuff on there and all of it in keeping with the score's tone, so I wonder if any other pieces are used later...

After rummaging, I found I encoded pretty much all of season one at 120kbps or less, so in the next few weeks I'll be re-upping a 320 version >_<

(Posted in both threads)

These are excellent! Especially good are the edits using the rear channels in season 1, episode 5, track 6. I didn't think anyone else would have noticed that the sun-diving SFX were absent in them, never mind would have edited the L/R front out of the mix to let those sections shine. Outstanding!

"Light" was actually the episode which finally sold me on the show; story, VFX, SFX, and music all came together in a virtually perfect hour of television. A group of comparative strangers drawing lots for seats in the only lifeboat is a situation everyone can empathize with. The colossal reveal of the ship's power source was some of the best VFX and the most innovative idea I've ever seen on SF TV. And the last two-thirds of the episode has virtually back-to-back music queues featuring some of the most affecting underscore I've ever heard on TV.

Sometimes I didn't care for the writing or direction the show would take, but the music and FX were always top flight.

Many thanks. I'll be supporting this if it's ever released officially. Alas I fear that with the total disregard to the series releases (eg no Bluray release planned for Season 2, just a DVD only release which is frustrating as Season 1 is in perfect high definition and Season 2 is in SD, DVD only), an official soundtrack release will be a pipe dream(which is ultra sad as it's an amazing musical experience in it's own right. Really well chosen music accompaniment which enhances the drama exceptionally well).

LONG LIVE STARGATE UNIVERSE: The first Stargate series to take Science Fiction seriously and deliver a magnificent series which was all the better for it, presenting realistic characters, excellent character development. It was terrific to have a series which removed the silly 'Big Hero saves the day' humor of the first 2 series and present a more true to life series with characters more in tune with the common every day man. This made the show interesting and highly enjoyable. Exploring the ship was magic with each episode.

This music presents some terrific memories and ideas as I listen to it and I felt the creators got it spot on, adding another layer of depth to an already deep show.
A tragedy that the series was abandoned just as it was warming up. What could have been?
