Pbbbbhhhhttt. Beat it. Although them running like hell was a totally awesome story element. Especially when Quisty busted out the machine gun and blasted it all to hell! that was tight! =D

Edit:Oh and I'd also like to state that I'm an idiot! ;-; I'm sorry I didnt know you were asking for help. I spoiled it. Shit. sorry dude. kill me if you want. #_#;;

If you fight it and it goes down, and then gets back up and catches you again, that's just resulting in another fight you have to take.

Try and dodge is at much as you can, and when you do have to fight it, use Quezacotl. Machines are weak against Thunder, so that should help in taking it down.

<font color=red face="comic sans ms">I've always ran from it. I know I could kill it if I fought enough and trained Quezacotl up, but quite honestly I was never arsed to fight that much at the beginning of the game. :p It's pretty easy to run away from though; you can avoid all battles after the first one, and I've still managed to come out with a SeeD rank of 10 without actually fighting it. I've seen a friend fight it, and he got loads of AP, but it seems you get points deducted instead of added on for where Attitude used to be, so it doens't really seem worth it. You get 50AP for knocking it down, but you get more than that fighting to prepare for the fight with it anyway. ;)

You CANNOT beat it. I tried. I got it down to 0 HP and it just rebuilt itself. Believe me when i say that, because you ALWAYS view that cut-scene UNLESS you run into the bar like a wuss :P.

No, you can beat it. Just really built up Quezacotl with abilities like SumMag + 20% or 30% or build up your characters enough in Dollet to draw high level magic spells. Here's the thing: you can never beat him on the very first battle. Always run from the first battle after taking away enough EXP because you could fight him until your blue in the face and you'll never beat him. Then, after escaping from that, just let him run into you and have at him. He has 3-5 lives, you will need to "kill" him more than once before you can kill him for good. That's why he kept getting back up, Kie, you can't just kill him once. He's tough like that. Oh, and BTW, the "Deduction" thing is apparently a mistake, as those points actually still add to your score. Plus, for beating him, you get a 100 point bonus. http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/file/final_fantasy_viii_seed_rank.txt

I usually run as well for the same reason as Melti guy :p Can't be arsed to level up that much in the beginning of the game. Besides... I like running around with a huge spider behind my back :) It's so... adrenaline rushed xD

I beat it... :) But I love the FMV w/Quistis when they run... So I often run instead of fight but I still beated it before... :)

It's also fun to do the Seifer-Level Up trick and then go into the battle... Easy as pie... :)
