I have a 3-CD that's recording sessions....I'm guessing this is it.

It's superior compared to the commercial release.

Usually I'm partial to commercial releases for clean album presentation but this has a wonderful heroic theme in a suite that is hardly ever used in the film itself. I'm guessing Beltrami wrote it with the intention of making more use of it in the inevitable sequels. Then along came Elfman. :(

Yea, I have a 3cd set too. May have got it here when first posted, looks like it is the same. @cd score, a couple of suites, and a third of album sets and alts....

cd1 is 26 tracks, cd2 is 23 tracks, cd 3 is 23 tracks. Does that sound about right?

This sounds nice.

This doesn't just sound nice... It's the best 'heroic' score I've ever heard so far, with the most entertaining themes and musics (I love Beltrami's "Morricone" touch on this one), and truly the better shape for recording sessions: crude blowing live sound with everything audible and with uncut capture (hearing comments or congratulations from the conductor, the musicians when they stop playing...) even though it needs quite some sound restoration to be appreciated as a whole. CD3 worths only for a couple of cues though (and if I remember is a DVD capture) and all well done fit on 2 CD. Anyway, this one is a keeper.

Never mind! I found the answer in a review of the score album and yes there were noticeable issues on all copies of the retail album. Oddly enough, the reviewer states that their promo copy of the score album was free of the defects that plagued the later official release! Maybe Varese or La la land records will release a deluxe edition to rectify the earlier album??



Does anyone know if there was some sort of technical issue with the official score album CD for the first Hellboy film by Marco Beltrami? The reason I ask is that I have downloaded the ost from different links posted here on the forum (one a flac version which I converted to mp3 320 , the other an mp3 320) and found some clacking distortions in parts of certain tracks (Liz Sherman , Father's Funeral , Stand By Your Man). The distortions were more noticeable in the flac version but still discernible in 320 quality version. Just curious if anyone else had this issue with their own copies of the score. Thanks!

As far as I know, the two noteworthy missing cues IMO are "John Myers arrives at BPRD" (an edited version of "Oompa" with clean bass at 1:31 instead of the vocals) and the film version of "Stand By Your Man."

You can get the second one off the DVD isolated score commentary, but unfortunately Marco talks over the start of the first.

Wish I could help more. I had this set once and lost it in a hard drive crash.
