No these are re-recordings merged in with the OST. They are very well done and the OP has done some cues from the other Bond films as well. They are also available on Youtube and CommanderBond.net (link: Gondola Chase - CBn Forums (http://debrief.commanderbond.net/topic/58772-gondola-chase/)).

Thanks for posting this. This sounds really incredible. I'm really not sure how this was accomplished, but this goes far beyond the usual dvdrip with sound effects. I followed the link above and read the whole thread, and I'm still not sure how he did it. Any fan of this score should really check this out. I was amazed.

Is the OP the one who actually did this re-recording? If so, I have a question that is John Barry related. Another of my favorite John Barry scores is The Black Hole, and like Moonraker, suffers from an incomplete release. Is there any possibility that you could tackle that score sometime in the future with the same type of re-recording? A good amount of music was never released, but I have no idea if that's actually possible to do or if you're actually interested. Just throwing the idea out there because his Black Hole score sounds very similar in nature to this one.

If anybody would like the classical piece that plays while Bond's boat drives through the streets of Venice, here it is in full:

Vienna Opera Orchestra - Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka, Op. 214 [Moonraker] ????? ??????? ??? ??????? ?????? ?????? ?? poiskm.ru. ????????? ??? ???????????, mp3 (http://poiskm.ru/song/13568563-Vienna-Opera-Orchestra-Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka-Op.-214-Moonraker)

It's called "Tritsch-Tratsch Polka" and it is performed by The Vienna Opera Orchestra, conducted by Alfred Scholz. It's the top track that appears on the linked page. Right-click and save the second icon from the left (the little floppy disk image). It's ~250 kb mp3 vbr lame, the best I could find. It probably came off either the album "Cinema Classics Vol. 8" or "Classics from the Movies", which both contain this piece.

Takehiro, did you do your extended version in lossless? Just wondering because these are all wav files and they appear lossless. If some were from mp3 sources they should appear as lossy I believe.

Which versions do you think are the Prague versions Lyedecker? I'd like to compare.

All my Bond scores are originally lossless sourced, yeah. I didnt post them in lossless here due to a slow connection, but was planning on having Sparktank host them in lossless here in the coming weeks.

The gunbarrel and end of Gondola Chase seem to show some cut off/degradation of the sound.

Moonraker holds a sentimental place for me, as much of the boat chase scene was filmed literally down the street from where I lived in Port St. Lucie, Florida. At that time (1978) Port St. Lucie had very little excitement going on, but it was pretty cool to know that they used some of our marina area serving as a South American setting. Edited such that the waterfall ending of the sequence blends in rather well, where that WAS S. America. I can recall that I heard an occasional explosion too.

The film itself isn't up to the caliber of Goldfinger for sure, but I still am fond of it.

Anaximander
06-03-2011, 09:11 PM
it's definitely no goldfinger.

it's not the worst.

i'd say it's an average bond film. there are some great moments. it just drags a bit here and there

thepoetspeaks

I enjoyed it, for the humor that is in abundance. Barry's score was just wonderful, such as the Flight Into Space. Recall getting the LP for Christmas and have a photo of a happy kid whose film score enthusiasm was just beginning!

Anaximander
06-03-2011, 09:18 PM
boy would i love to have moonraker on vinyl. i think the films generally considered roger moore's worst are my favorites. golden gun, moonraker, view to a kill. they are very slapstick and he plays a caricature of bond more than anything. it's almost like watching a leslie nielson film.

AVTAK doesnt get cut enough slack, for me. I think its a great film. Sure, Moore was a little old but the story, villains and the score make for -- what I think -- is a great movie. Its pretty gritty in parts too, esp for a PG.

This is great! I had an expanded, "complete" version and it sucked. Full of FX and noise and it was just awful. I am looking forward to getting this one downloaded and into my iTunes.

Someone mentioned that there was an even longer version with a few extra tracks on another thread. Anyone have that link? I am having a bit of trouble finding it.

Interesting about Dalton being asked to do it after Connery. He really was young back then. On this subject, Moore was the one Broccoli wanted in the place but he was tied up on "The Saint" at the time. Moore was definitely too old by the time "A View to a Kill" came along and I truly hated the way the films had degenerated into kiddie slapstick. "Moonraker" was a poor retread of "The Spy Who Loved Me" (the screenwriter wasn't even trying) trying to cash in on "Star Wars" and Octopussy just sucked. The best thing about all of them was the music. Barry was even disappointed by then and quit scoring them because he felt the filmmakers had quit trying to tell a real story and had essentially gotten lazy. They did try to get back to the basics in "For Your Eyes Only" but it was a little thin. Dolton really brought it back in his second and last outing, "Licence To Kill". You talk about violent! Too bad they went into that six year hiatus and that Americans never really warmed to him. He was the deadliest Bond ever until the re-boot and Craig.

Anaximander
06-04-2011, 03:49 PM
you probably had the version by 00agent.

Oh, I had no idea my thread had a two page conversation going ... ahem.

First of all, sorry to Takehiro for taking his version and re-upping it. In fact, I wanted to present it a bit differently. I wanted to get the whole of "Corinne Put Down" on there for instance. I like to put everything Barry recorded on there, in the film or not.
But your version was the only one at hand at the time (it's amazing with all this talk about filesharing that I couldn't get a decent and lossless upload of the OST at the time), and it is, as you know, very good ;)

The Arrival At Chateau Drax is Nic Raine's recording. His freefall is terrible, but this one sounds quite nice.

I remember this being one of my favorite movies when I was a kid - along with The Black Hole and Escape from Witch Mountain - I guess because they were always on TV at some point in time. Compared to the loads of tripe we're getting these days as "summer entertainment" those movies were real art. ;)

And after 30+ years I even found a review for Star Trek TMP I can agree with: Ruthless Reviews THE INDEFENSIBLE – STAR TREK (http://www.ruthlessreviews.com/12030/the-indefensible-star-trek/)

And on another note I recently watched Moonraker and was amazed by its cinematography! It looks like a VERY different movie sometimes.

A very impressive piece of work done by gkgyver! Very highly appreciated!

Does anyone have a DVD rip of Elmer Bernstein's Magnificent Seven theme that was used in the Gaucho scene? I believe that the orchestrations were done by Barry and it is a re-recording that was done when they performed the score in France in 1979. I don't believe it exists anywhere else except for in the film.

Tadlow is collecting money for a rerecording of the score on Kickstarter - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/681802762/moonraker-new-recording

I just donated some coins.

More people should support this if you'd like to see it happen!

I wonder why the Moonraker Kickstarter was cancelled?

galipolis
03-17-2015, 06:54 PM
Hello,
the Moonraker Kickstarter project was not cancelled - just the opposite: all the funds came in so financially the project was in sure hands.
But then James Fitzpatrick gave information, that an unexpected rights issue turned up which prevented an immediate recording of the score
so he didn't collect the Kickstarter funds.
So the Moonraker project is postponed for undefined time - but not cancelled.

Ah, same sad story as with so many other titles. Some parasite(s) figured out there'd be easy money to be made from this re-recording and the 35+ year old copyright (which he/them would never use for anything in a hundred years) could be milked for good.
