Note of warning: If you are in a perfectly good mood, do NOT listen to this music. This music will take you to a dark place and will probably drive you insane. The music can be thematic and beautiful one minute, dark and menacing the next. When it hits dark mode (which is throughout most of this set) it is very unrelenting which no doubt led to their exposure in such classic films such as The Shining and The Exorcist, as well in recent films, Children of Men, Shutter Island, etc. The composer's darker and more menacing pieces are attributed largely to their religious origins (most of Penderecki's work was commissioned by the Roman Catholics), especially Symphony No. 7 - St. Luke's Passion. Symphony no. 6 is not included because as of this date it has yet to be recorded.

Here is the MOST COMPREHENSIVE and ABSOLUTE BEST of Polish composer, Krzysztof Penderecki. I would not advise listening to this all in one pass. Too much Penderecki all at once could cause temporary or irreparable insanity.

For newcomers to Penderecki, I would recommend checking out the scores in the "Orchestral Works" folder. That'll help determine if you're ready to handle his style enough to proceed to his Symphonies and Concertos. This set took years to compile to this size so when you download, please say thanks. That's all I ask. Also, please support the composer by purchasing his CD's.

For Penderecki newcomers I recommend the Naxos CD of his 3rd symphony which also features his famous Threnody.

This collection is about as complete as I could get it and includes pretty much every piece listed under Penderecki's composition list on Wiki except for his operas, the horn concerto, a non-Youtube ripped version of Penderecki's Sextet and several other pieces are rather hard to locate as well. If anyone has those CDs and wouldn't mind uploading, please be my guest.

I know that. ^^

There is also a Orchestral Works series by Naxos. In it, the CD with the 3rd symphony also contains Threnody. That's what I wanted to say. :)
I also got the Penderecki-conducted version which you can find on the soundtrack CD to Children of Men. Both nice. :)

I'll check it out. I found two albums I forgot to add. I've included them in the list. I'm sure there is more Penderecki music floating around somewhere but considering I've managed to track down almost every piece listed in Penderecki's music profile on Wiki. It's about as complete as it's gonna get considering some pieces haven't seen an official album release but it's very very few pieces.

Thanks for sharing! glad to see some love for Penderecki! love the use of his music in films, and have also been listening to some of his concert work, just heard "St Luke Passion" the other day. Definitely some challenging stuff. I've also been listening to composers like George Crumb, Arvo Part (his music is a lot more pleasant, less terrifying), Gorecki, etc. Worth the while for those who are wanting to stretch their musical muscles and explore pretty wild material.

Trying out the "Orchestral Works" album.

Thanks for the work in compiling this collection!

If you make it through the complete Orchestral Works album (which by the way is not a single album but rather a compilation I made with the gathered cues I found), I highly recommend the Cello Concertos. Those are my top-favorite works of Penderecki. Anyway, hope you enjoy!

Great upload, i'll be taking everything, starting with the Orchestral scores like it was advised.
I know him from The Shining Score but i still haven't use my time getting deep into his style so i can't give my opinion, but i'll be sure to say something after some pieces ^^

Well, then this really is the complete collection until Symphony 6 is done, GJ. You should get the concert suites for the operas, though, I know there's one for Paradise Lost and it's a really good example of the foreboding nature of Penderecki's style.

I'm trying to obtain a copy of Paradise Lost and I know a bootleg recording exists and seems to be the only source available but it's getting increasingly harder to obtain. If you actually have that or could possibly obtain it that would be awesome and you'd help complete the collection...well, almost anyway.

I don't have the Paradise Lost opera itself, but I have a concert suite that I'd be more than willing to upload (not for long though, I have a strict download limit on my mediafire account), so if someone with space to spare could upload it to a more permanent place, that'd be swell. Laradise Post, huh? Haha. I did manage to find a nearly 3 hour version (full opera, perhaps?) of Paradise Lost but the sound quality is not very good (obvious bootleg) but I'll post it if the interest is there. I've added Credo which I initially missed.

Early Penderecki can be considered atonal in the vein of Bartok's Night music, later Penderecki is more of a crap-shoot, as it can be anything from epic orchestral/choral music (Symphony 7) to dissonance-filled neo-romantic (Most of the concerti, in which Penderecki's style is really... Shining... lololololololol)

This collection does not feature that piece. If you want to upload any additional Penderecki albums please feel free. The more Penderecki, the better in my opinion. Plus I was a fool and deleted alot of the re-recorded material I had in favor of another recording so you may have some of the recordings I'm missing. It's the usual Threnody, Polymorphia, De Natura Sonoris I and 2, Dream of Jacob and a few other orchestral works. Symphony no. 6 is my biggest request right now but it hasn't even been recorded/completed yet that I know of.

The password issue is fixed now, by the way.

Well, I'm afraid it's less than I remember it being, just the Adagietto from the opera, but it's a heck of a piece, nonetheless, and makes for a nice taste for those wondering what Penderecki's like.

Thank you very much for this! I have a double CD and I've been meaning to try more. I was really surprised to discover most of the music in The Shining was "found" because it seems so appropriate for the movie. It became a mission to seek out the work of the composers, and Penderecki's has been consistently dark and abrasive.
