So I'm playing FF9 (well... TRYING to) on my PS3, but every time it gets to this one specific cinematic - Zidane and co. have just kidnapped Princess Garnet and are making a run for it - it just freezes. Its always the exact same frame too, no matter how many times I clean the disk and reload the save, same result each time.

Is there ANY way to skip cinematics on a PS3?

Welcome back 7alentine, I haven't seen you around here in a long time. :)

I've heard the PS3 has real problems running the PSX FF discs - apparently the emulation the console uses is sub-standard, hence why Sony eliminated the backwards compatibility completely from later PS3 models. Your best bet to playing FFIX is either to play it on a PS2 (or even an old PS1 for that matter), or purchase and download the digital version on the PSN Store to your PS3 (which I've heard is far more stable than running the PSX disc on the PS3).

Failing that, it could be a scratch on your disc which is what's causing the game to freeze. I do remember there was an old trick on the PSX (used by people trying to get the Excalibur II) that by opening the PSX's disc tray lid when the game was loading a cutscene it would cause the console to 'skip' the scene. I don't know how you'd be able to do that with the PS3 though, as ejecting the disc when it's in use would just send you back to the PS3's XMB screen.

Hopefully this helps.

thanks Enkidoh, its good to be back haha, though I must say these forums don't get nearly as much traffic as they used to =/

yeah I just ended up purchasing the PSN version, works like a charm. I've got 7, now I've got 9, next paycheque I'll be getting 8.

thanks for the help though =]
