I really think so! I really liked the battle system, felt more free roam, I like the original formulas, but I just don't like waiting 5-6 seconds to actually get into the battle screen. and this battle system feels really good (if not just spamming attack) Well you casts buffs as well, although I seriously think magic needs a revamp in it. FF12-2 please? :D

I also think if they used this system WITH online it would work! You could get your friends (up to 2 and then you can *buy* or earn trust for a guest character as a fourth slot!) Would work IMO, all three characters casting different things, although would be troublesome if you guys don't help each other out :P. The gambit system was a great change as well, and I should of listened to the advice of *saving* over my file because I got stuck on Cid's laboratory and died and had to restart :(
Great game, REALLY long, I want another one of these, but I heard lots of people/fans didn't like it, I for one do, my cousin didn't though.

So, what are your thoughts?

But they should do it with a more class based system. I think it would work great as a strategic battle system where all characters cannot learn everything. I would love to play the Zodiac Edition of this game. Great battle system, but like FF X, some stratrgy for battles go out the window when all characters can just pummel a bad guy with the same spells to kill it. Oddly enough, all characters learning everything seems to work in XIII.

I wouldn't do it Class Oriented, it shrinks the open customization that was part of the charm of the License board. I would define better the attributes of the character & give them more unique skills for each one.
XII was a mess in that regard. Ashe was obviously the best character and Fran the worst. And suprisingly Basch had the worst Vitality attributes.

The battle system is perfect as it is. The only thing that I'll add would be the option of jumping. The dungeons and the maps would be a lot more fun that way.

That's my 2 cents.

I liked FFXII's battle system. As Kevin said, it feels more free. It ran more smoothly, in that there was no interruption/loading screen of any kind when you went into battle.

I'll also say, though, I do miss random battles. I think I'd like a faster-paced random battle system, though not FFXIII fast. The battle system in that game just felt like a mess.

Well since XII is the only one I played at first I had to get used to the battle system. I do like it once I got used to it though :O

Um, you do realise that FFXII's battle system is in fact derived from a MMORPG, namely, FFXI? Although there are some differences (namely, FFXI uses an 'auto-attack' function with an attack delay stat on weapons, where as FFXII restored the traditional ATB gauge), it was clearly modified from FFXI.

This isn't a bad thing at all (in fact, FFXII improved over FFXI's battle system in some respects - the enmity gauge over enemies showing the likelihood they would attack you was a welcome improvement over XI for one thing). Even FFXII's Gambits are essentially just FFXI's macros that have been automated by the computer.

Like I said, FFXII reusing FFXI's battle system is not a bad thing - and I really enjoyed XII, even despite it's failings (weak 'Star Wars rip-off in Ivalice' story, superfluous main protagonist, summons that were effectively useless against strong groups of enemies). I just wanted to clarify that your main point (reusing FFXII's battle system as an online game), has already been done. ;)

Best battle system in any FF game, different and daring but executed very well. It made up for the lack of story and character development in the game.

XII's battle system was ok, but man the game was way too grindy for a FF game.
