This is the original soundtrack to the 1979 comedy/war/action film "Escape To Athena" starring Roger Moore (as a German officer no less), Telly Savalas, Richard Roundtree, David Niven, Claudia Cardinale and Elliot Gould as "Charlie". The film was great harmless fun in an even lighter vien than "Kelly's Heroes" which it tries to emulate on many levels.

Lalo Shiffrin did a fun score for the film using standards such as "When the Saints Go Marching In" with Greek flavor. If you love disco the song played over the end titles is a great little ditty by Heatwave entitled "Keep Tomorrow for Me" and has never been released anywhere since the film came out.

This rip is from the Japanese release of the album, the only commercial release of the soundtrack back in 1979. The artwork is fan made, not by me some years back. I hope you enjoy it.

This is a great score, hope someday will be an official release. Some time ago I made artwork for this but I made it like a Varese retro style, the thing is I'm not sure if I can share it here since is "Varese" but is a contradiction at the same time since it is not their release... what a mess... lol

I'm pretty sure that the artwork you created is what I found and included here. It had me fooled until I looked up the UPC code number. great wrok by the way. really nice artwork, much better than the Japanese album cover.

Nice score. I had never heard this. Weird that a 1980 Japanese LP is apparently really the only release this ever got. Thank you.

It's not that unusual that it was only released in Japan. Back then they seemed to have a release for just about everything you could not get in the West. I have thirty year old vinyls of "Athena" (Entitled strangely enough "Offsides 7" in Japan) "Meteor", a weird knockoff score of "Halloween" complete with original dialogue from the film but not the original music. (This was the only release until Varese did it in the 90's) Even the cover was from the real movie poster. It was recorded in something called "Surround 360" which was a very annoying effect that changed the channel mixes all through the score. I also have the only official release of "The Cannonball Run". 'Athena was a nice find because of the high quality of the recording which, unfortunately this rip does not reflect as well as I would like. All of these albums were ridiculously expensive costing an average of $30.00 in early 1980's money so enjoy it.
