James Horner composed three different scores for the 1985 comedy-drama Heaven Help Us, and while producers ultimately selected the first attempt, written in the idiom of Irish folk music, they only employed about 15 minutes of his music in the finished film. Soundtrack Library's limited-edition Heaven Help Us contains all three of Horner's scores, and the contrasts between them make for fascinating listening -- with its soft-focus strings, piano, and flute, the third score is quintessential Horner, but the second, which draws on classical sensibilities, is so atypical of the composer's modus operandi that it almost seems the work of someone else
