I've recently rediscovered WRPG with KOTOR II TSL, I played the 1st one in a long time ago & tried the sequel but I saw at first glance the improvements but I couldn't bring myself to play it backthen because I hate to play a sequel without having finished it's previous entry...
And I hated many things of KOTOR I that I quitted the game at the Manaan part because I had enough of the over-the-top cliched dialogues & the poor storyline that came from an excelent idea.
The gameplay was just OK, not a big fan of it's engine, I don't found it so brilliant, though the face expressions are the best among all the WRPG's that I played.
Then I picked it up again & brought myself to finish the game & I'm finally playing & Enjoying KOTOR II TSL & it's quintessencially the best WRPG that I've ever played.
Bioware is the most acclaimed WRPG company these days (at least that's how I see it) & yet I think they're not close by a one bit to be as the popularity says IMO.
From their library of games I played these games:
Neverwinter Nights
KOTOR
Jade Empire
Dragon Age Origins
All I can say is that they only repeat the formula by changing the setting, In my eyes KOTOR is NWN in SW universe, Jade Empire the same but in Asia & DAO is almost like an Updated version of that game, put a few tweaks in the gameplay & you have what Bioware games are.
I haven't finished NWN but at first look I can safely say that I'm not that far from the truth.
Now I haven't played Mass Effect, but I heard that it's their best game so far, I will play it though so I can give a better judgment.
I also played some other WRPG's among those I played, The Elder Scrolls III & IV and Fallout 3, I didn't liked them I think that they're just games that offer you freedom to do whatever you like, other than that I don't see anyother good feature & consider them pretty hollow games.
I couldn't get myself to enjoy them & the gameplay of those games aren't responsive enough for me, even though they're realtime & think that KOTOR is much better at bringing thrill & action.
I also played Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines but having played White Wolf's original Tabletop game, I fail to see this game to bring me to the experience of a Vampire module & I thought many things regarding it's gameplay were handled horribly.
Now I was greatly interested on playing Fallout I & II and Planescape: Torment and I did try them but I just hate Baldur's Gate's & Fallout's Engine :S
And I know that the storyline of these games are great, but I can't get to play them because of that reason.
I also wish to play NWN 2, I know that it's developed by Obsidian & that enough for me to try it, though it doesn't look like a fun game.
Alpha Protocol is another Candidate, but it's bugs & the words that spread that in technical terms the game is pretty much a chaos because It doesn't function properly is holding me back from trying it.
I want you to give me an opinion & thoughts about this, I'm really enjoying KOTOR II & now that I have the Restoration Content Mod for the game I think that I'm getting a enhanced experience for the game.
If you are interested on the Mod go here. (http://deadlystream.com/forum/topic/240-tslrcm-17-released/)
I'm getting a little more interested on WRPG having this kind of experince. So...
Thoughts?
