I realize this virtually a non-debate but i feel it necessary to mention. I'm a fan of the big 3 Final Fantasies 7,8,9 but as you've probably gathered, My absolute favorite is ff8. I would like to hear everyones thoughts on this seemingly overlooked topic. Pre-rendered versus 3D polygonal graphics. While i understand the need to be interactive with the environment, i dont think we've merged the two worlds together. The mere artistic value behind Pre-rendering is priceless. To really capture the moment. I think 3D allows for the designers to be a little more laid back. Am i the only one that misses the older games for that reason lol?

Are you a fan of the Classic titles, I mean the Pre-VII games?

I personally agree with you, the Pre-rendered looked nice. But the problem is that the Sprites bitch-slap you.

It would be nice to see Pre-Rendered again in an FF game it would probably be successful.

Now don't get me wrong, I love XII, but I don't feel it as an FF game so it's pretty different.

I'm pretty much a fan of all things final fantasy lol, i've played IV (the one with Cecil yea?) and the first one. I've been meaning to play II and VI but i havent gotten around to it. I guess the main reason i like VIII so much is the connection to the characters. Specifically Squall. The story made more practical sense to me. But there are many other reasons why i enjoy the game.

I enjoyed playing X very much, the story wasnt bad either. However i cant hold it up on the same tier as the other three. While voice-overs (also inevitable) were an interesting take for the gamer to give more personality to the characters, i think if not done seemlessly it can take away from it. Thats where i believe those classics stand out, letting your imagination sort of take control of the syntax and interpretations. Same goes for XII, i liked playing it, but thats as far as game got for me. I wasnt immersed in it at all. Graphically speaking i think they were trying to hard to cause epileptic seizures, just because they had the tools lol. Thats not to say there isnt alot to enjoy about the game though.

Glad to see i'm not the only one :D

Well, I wouldn't talk about VIII's Storyline & Characters because I don't have good things to say about that game in that part in particular xD.

XII is a different story to me because I played it & I Invested my time to tie it with FFTactics & Vagrant Story, XII is set in the same world of these other two games & the flavor you got in these 3 games is plentyful, Really.
My mindset was different hence the reason why I don't consider it an FF game.
Graphically Speaking XII worked perfectly to me, the Super Amazing Technicolor graphics shine on the Quickenings XD.

You should get your hands on VI if you can, that game is pretty great, IV remains as my fauvorite Classic FF game but VI is close.

I would like to see Pre-Rendered FF game in the vein of the PSX era, but for that to happen, Sakaguchi has to come back to Square & that's not going to happen anytime soon.

I'm curious though why you dont like the characters and story? I can see were on two totally different spectrums here.

Thats the sad unfortunate truth, and it wont happen anytime soon, youre right. And Uematsu as well.

Pre-rendered + 3D = WIN
