A recent request for the BTTF scores complained that all the old links are DEAD, so I decided to put up this thread. I will be adding some special BTTF stuff, and should have all the scores, with VA music as well! The first link is my own special version, which also includes the VA music that was used in the film! Here's the link:

Has anyone ever found the Johnny B Goode cut from the film? I'm not talking about the one on the OST. I mean the one where Marty's solo ends up in a giant metalfest kicking amps and stuff.

Same thing for the Earth Angel cut. Have never been able to find these two.

Tell ya what, you work on "Johnny B Goode", and I will work on "Earth Angel" for you! Once done, I will add them to the complete BTTF #1 that I did! I just LOVE complete scores (WITHOUT SFX!!!) :)

I am working on a complete BTTF#2 (I did some small work on 2&3, since they filmed them back to back) so, hopefully I can pull some strings with "AS" and get the backing tracks for "angel"!

alright, sorry if i sounded picky

EDIT: alright here is some more picky-ness

the version of I'm Back and To Be Concluded on this isnt "complete"

compared to this version here: YouTube - Back to the Future II OST - 17 - I'm Back and To Be Concluded... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkyJhTCXhso)

know anything about this?

Forceboat
01-14-2011, 03:12 AM
hahahahaha!! Yes I do know about that one. JSheppard023 may claim that's from the film, but it isn't. That's actually from John Debney's re-recording, the Back To The Future Trilogy. So the one from the expanded score is the real deal. However, there's a slight possibility that that version is an alternate that maybe didn't make the expanded score, hard to say. I noticed on the re-recording of Western Union on that CD that there's an extension buildup for the Back To The Future theme that sounds a lot like the extension buildup from the beginning of Part III the film itself, so there may be some alternate cues that none of us know about yet.

Okay, here's a little contribution I'm making. These are my own little homemade film-version edits of "Earth Angel" (including Silvestri's music) and "Johnny B. Goode". Now, here's the thing - I was extremely hesitant about posting these, because although they're fairly decent, they are by no means perfect. "Earth Angel" I think came out pretty decent; "Johnny Goode" was a bit of a nightmare. I'm pretty sure E.A. is clean of SFX, while J.B.G. has a tiny bit. (The biggest problem with that one is the noticeable sound changes between the OST and the DVD channels.) Like I said, I just did these for fun about a year ago. If someone else can do a better job, by all means, please post it, I'd love to hear it! =) In the meantime, take a listen - if you like it, great, enjoy. If not, it's the best I could do. =)

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!! I could not have created a better version of "Earth Angel" unless I had the actual backing tracks!! Your "Johnny B. Goode" was pretty good, except the last half with the sound change, as you had said. Plus it almost sounds mono, but still, all in all, and excellent segue experiment, which resulted in a successful attempt! I really like the way you faded from the soundtrack, to the movie tracks, nice and slow, but amazingly sync'd to each other, almost as if you were using a $100,000.00 processing unit! Great stuff!

William

dsguardian
01-19-2011, 08:25 PM
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback! I agree with you about it almost sounding mono - drives me nuts. I use DVD Audio Extractor to separate the channels, then I use Goldwave to convert to stereo and edit from there. But that tinny, mono-type sound drives me crazy, and I have no idea why it sounds like that. Especially when I hear other people's DVD rips, and some of those sound more "stereo" and full-sounding. I would love to know what process other people use. As for these two tracks, "Earth Angel" sounds better because of the quality material available, whereas with "Johnny B. Goode", the only material available is the OST version (very different from the film version) and the rear channels of the DVD. (As a sidenote, it took foreevvver to match the volume levels during the part where Marvin is on the phone - the volume level drops considerably on the DVD channels because the music's in the background for that little segment. Drove me nuts, but it came out okay, ha ha.)

But seriously, if anyone knows how to get a fuller sound out of the DVD channels, please please let me know. I'm especially interested to know if anyone knows the methods used by people who made some of the Star Wars, Jurassic Park complete rips. I'd love to know any other methods. Thanks again!

Okay, just for fun, here are a few other tracks that I did last year. As always, these aren't supposed to be professional edits or anything resembling "complete score" (the Intrada edition did a pretty good job with that, thank goodness). Just a few extra tracks for completists that aren't on either release:

- Late for School (Power of Love) - The film version of the song at the beginning. A little bit of SFX at the end of the track
- The Pinheads' Audition - Taken straight from the DVD, so it has a little bit of dialogue, but it's just such a fun little bit.
- Marty & Jennifer (Power of Love reprise) - Quite of bit of background SFX, but I was able to eliminate most of the loud jarring SFX. Most of it is birds chirping in the background, an occasional car passing by. Just did this one for fun.
- 1955 Town Square - This is the full film version with Mr. Sandman, then it fades into Silvestri's music. No SFX.
- The Four Aces - Mr. Sandman - Full version of the song.
- Fess Parker - The Ballad of Davy Crockett - The song playing in the diner when Marty first gets there. For some reason, this version was actually pretty hard for me to find. I finally did, so here, enjoy!
- Johnny Ace - Pledging My Love - The song playing on the car radio when Marty & Lorraine are in the car at the dance.

Like I said, these are just for fun. If you like them, great. If not, no worries. :)

And here you can hear the Van Halen song snippet:

Untitled Van Halen Song (http://web.archive.org/web/20040204173103/http://www.van-halen.com/newsite/backfuture.html)

That is so awesome, thank you!! I love the instrumental version of POL! (Too bad there's that damn synthesizer in there, otherwise you could probably use some of that in the "Marty & Jennifer" track that I ripped. I would kill to get that guitar-strumming track by itself, lol.)

Also, thanks for the film version of BTTF3 Prologue. I'm actually kind of bummed that the expanded (recording sessions) version isn't the film version. From what I've been reading on the jwfan message board, the version on the expanded seems to be the same version as the end of "Western Union" from Part 2. Sucks, because I do like the building crescendo sound of the bumbumbum-bum-bum right before the main theme kicks in. Seriously, other than that, I can't really tell the difference between the rest of the expanded version cue and the film version. (Good thing others have a better ear than I do.) :)

By the way, somebody mentioned hearing the first part of BTTF3 prologue in The Ride preshow video. The Blu Ray has the full ride video with all the preshow stuff, but I'm not sure if that can be cleanly ripped from there. (I doubt the ride video is in 5.1. Could be wrong.) Does anyone know where exactly in the preshow video that that music bit appears?

As regards the instrumental POL, you're quite welcome. Yeah, it is a bummer that the film version wasn't used, but it was basically a mix of the ting-a-ling part, that more pronounced bum-bum-bum-bum part, and the end of the "To 1885" cue. That just mentioned middle part is actually different from the one on the expanded soundtrack; just for the heck of it, I may try to rip it from the lobby monitor just to give it a listen, and if it sounds better, I may use that instead, and, it was probably me that mentioned it (EDIT: blast it, big negative; the extras are available only with a 2-channel mix, so it's no go on a better source) - coincidentally, since you asked, it begins at roughly 4:28 in on the lobby monitor footage.

The original BTTF ride was actually recorded in 7.1!!! I used to have all the different video elements on several DVDs, but, of course, these were some of the discs that got stolen. I tried to go back to the person that I got them from, but he is gone as well! :( However, some of that stuff is now available on Youtube!
There were alot of seperate elements that had their own speakers. I don't know how that could be transfered to 5.1 DVD if at all!

Forceboat, may i recommend something, what you could do is download AC3 filter, and Media Player Classic, then select AC3 filter to be used by MPC and then set all the channels besides the rears to -100, then use a speaker recorder to record the rip, then either use vegas or Windows Media Player to cut it together, or atleast use crossfades

I'm sorry it took me two days to respond, Faleel, I was getting the hang of using DVD Audio Extractor, Audacity, etc. I have done better than sending it to you, if no one minds it being here, here it is in both FLAC and MP3 versions:

Prologue (Film Version).flac (http://storagestart2.divshare.com/launch.php?f=13951104&s=65c)

I have two neat little additions that you and others might like, dsguardian. I fished around and found out about a rare instrumental version of Power Of Love and also a muddy sounding but nice short clip of the Van Halen song that is from Marty's cassette tape (the "spaceman in George's bedroom" scene).

VST Enabler makes it so plugins work, then you need MDA stereo for Mono to Stereo here is a list of all the plug-ins: VST Plug-ins - Audacity Wiki (http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=VST_Plug-ins)

Just thought I would post my review of BTTF Part II from JWFAN here

Definitely mixed more dry than the score to Part I

I reviewed the tracks individually, Blue text is OST red text is complete:

#1 Prologue: I like the alternate orchestration of the 4 x 4 portion, and the extended percussion ending

#2 Main Titles and Flying Traffic: I like the insert in the Main Theme, the unreleased portion of the "Doc Theme" isnt very interesting though

#3 The Future: I like the millitaristic percussion (snare?) but its a pretty boring track I usually skip it

#4 Griff: I like how this segues into Beat It in the film

#5 Hoverboard Chase: opens like Skateboard Chase from Part 1, but goes in a different direction, i like how it sort of stops when Marty gets his board wet

#6 A Flying Delorean?: I like the variation of the main theme that plays over the percussion

#7 Marlene Mcfly: Very....interesting?

#8 Hilldale: I dont really remember anything about this track

#9 Needles Deal: sort of cool

#10 Leaving 2015: I like how the twinkly stuff is played over the frantic strings

#11 Hell Valley: Atmospheric opening, I like the motif for Alternate 1985

#12 Marty Wakes Up: Not as good as its Part 1 counterpart

#13 My Father!: Again I like the motif for Alternate 1985, I like the Cemetary music

#14 Alternate 1985: Again i can't remember anything about this track

#15 Gray's Sports Almanac: Short but dark, cool.

#16 If They Ever Did and Something Inconspicuous: I like the version of the main theme here, though its ruined by the dry mixing

#17 Biff's Garage: I like the Whining strings

#18 The Weather Experiment: Twinkly..I think

#19 Pair O' Docs: I like how it brings to mind the emotions of the first film, almost inspirational sounding nice break from the darkness

#20 The Book: Nice creepy opening, I like the playful version of the main theme, and the music when George punches Biff (for the same reasons I liked PO'D)

#21 Marty's Temper: Very much like Track 4, makes nice intro to.....

#22 Tunnel Chase: I like the opening and the versions of the main theme

#23 Burn The Book: Basically the beginning of the Clock Tower, I like the percussion

#24 Doc's Gone: The same as the cemetary music from Track 13

#25 Western Union: I like the version of the 4 x 4 motif and the main theme, I like the buildup to the main theme

#26 I'm Back and To Be Concluded: I like the the whole thing expecially the ending

#27 Back to the Future III Trailer Music: I like the mandolin (?) and the ending I actually kind of like it more than the BTTF main theme

#28 End Credits: Nice suite, Like the ending

#29 Hoverboard Chase (Alternate): Love the alternate piano, it seems whenever Silvestri trys to pass the skate/hoverboard music withought the opening hit, Zemeckis made him rewrite it

#30 To Be Concluded (Alternate): Almost sounds slowed down, like the creepy ending

#31 To Be Concluded (Alternate II): Sounds the same just without the buildup

#32 Back to the Future III Trailer Music (Alternate): I like the ending, played too slow though

I know there are two cues missing from the recording sessions from III that would be cool to have from the BR rip. Both cues are super short with the first being whern Marty and Doc are going over the map of the Ravine at the train station; the second cue being at the end when Marty is walking in Hilldale after he returns from 1885.

Definitely interested, Faleel!

The third missing cue would be the film version of the Prologue (at least the first half of the cue is missing).

This is my first post here, but I really wanted to share this with everyone.

This is my personal edit of the full score to BTTF 1. It uses all the material from the Intrada release (first disc) plus all of the songs featured in the film. It also incorporates some of my favourite moments of dialogue and sound effects, mixed in to the score. I've taken a few liberties here and there with edits and location of dialogue (I hate most of the pop songs in the film, so they're edited right down) but most of it follows the film's chronological order and most snippets of dialogue or effects are lined up where they belong. It might seem strange to most of you for someone to take a complete score and put SFX back in...... but the whole thing makes for a really fun listen. It's certainly not meant to be any kind of "ultimate every note complete version," it's just something I use to listen to and remember how much I bloody love that film!!

I decided to share it mainly because of the discussion of film versions of "Earth Angel" and "Johnny B Goode." I think my edits are certainly worth a listen.

Give it a go and let me know if you like it. I hope you enjoy :)

Just make sure you can listen to it with gapless playback :)

darkknight, I think the one you're referring to is already there, called Delorean Destroyed, he mourns about the car and Doc and runs back to his house on foot, right? Yep, it's there. Yes, the first one, the one dsguardian has mentioned, and three more : Universal 75th Anniversary Logo by James Horner; "Battle Cry Of Freedom" (played when the mayor says, "let the festivities begin!") and the saloon piano music (scene where Doc goes to "get drunk" after breaking up with Clara). I think that's the only missing bits.

Forceboat

No, it's not there, but I don't know if Doc was really playing anything significant, obviously it was for laughs, he's in shock that Marty is back in 1955 again and it's as if he is just randomly pressing keys with his hands as he's trying to get away from him, lol. It's short and funny, sure, why not. :)

Yep, you are right. Not sure why I thought that was missing. So really the only score cue missing is that short, :30 second piece with the BTTF march and the old west theme heard when Marty & Doc are at the train station discussing their plan. The other stuff is source music.

I have tried to locate that cue to see if it's tracked but I don't think it is there. I'll have to scour the sessions again. It almost sounds like the march used in II, but it has the western theme in it so that isn't possible.

The source is the Intrada soundtrack for Part I and the sessions that have been floating around the web for two years for the sequels. Nothing new. Faleel, I'm looking forward to your BR rip of Part III with the unreleased stuff. Let us know. :)

Well, these sound pretty good, all things considered. And YES, I am looking forward to Faleel's Blue-ray rip of part 3 as well! :)

Thanks again, William

great music of the saga, but there are sounds missing includings little tracks, and the Jhonny Be Good from BTTF2 is a little extended when Marty see his double and then climbs the ladder...

This is an actual release not just a cobbled together fan creation.

Varese doesn't control the release of the 3rd part's score anymore. In the mid 2000's there was a release that contained 43 tracks from Back to the Future Part III

The key words are FAN CREATION. Made up of three bootlegs (Part I isn't even the legit Intrada release!!). Varese DOES still control the rights to Part III, sorry.

Apparently AMANDA has gotten JESSIE to demand that I remove all of my links, and it appears that AMANDA will be doing this on ALL of my future posts and links, so I will NOT be posting any reups on any links. You can PM Amanda and Jessie and thank them both!

Hi guys,

I'm currently looking for the extremely rare "DeLorean Bootleg" of the BTTF1 score.
As seen here: Thread 40522
Too bad the download link is down.

I've been searching for a while and can't seem to find it anywhere.

Can any of you give me a download link, or point me to somewhere/someone who can send it to me?

Thanks. :)
