Use Sony Media Go. For some reason when I download a game (not DLC), it always has an error. Plus it's faster. At least it is for me.

All you'll need is a PSP, a PSN account and a large enough memory stick. Go into the store, buy the games (they're all on PSN already) and download them.

Alternatively, you could hack your PSP (depending on the model and current firmware) and just drop the PSX or PSN version onto the memory stick.

Afaik, you can do it online with the PSP if the PSP has the latest firmware (not sure if jailbroken PSPs will work, but Sony is known to lock people with outdated firmwares out of the PSN). And of course, you need to leave the PSP tethered to the charger if you want to do it through the PSP. And once you tie the PSP down to the PSN account, the only way to remove the link is to hard reset the PSP, so beware.

You can also download it through the PS3 and then transfer it to the PSP.

And oh, if your PSP's the older 1000 - 3000 models, you can just use most digital camera transfer cables, USB hub cables or the USB cable that comes with the PS3 for charging the gamepad. Certain cell phone cables (i.e. those by HTC and Motorola) will also work.

Okay, I'm really interested in putting Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX (when it comes out on the PSN) on my PSP, as well as a myriad other games. But as many people here know, I am super technologically challenged. So, if someone has the patience, pretend I'm your grandpa and please explain to me how the process of downloading something from the PSN to my PSP works, what all I'll need, is it expensive, and how long it may take. I'd appreciate it, and just remember, every bit of info I take gets me a little more tech-savvy ;)

A few questions:
Do you already have a PlayStation Network account?
Do you also have a PlayStation 3?
What Country/Region are you in?
Which PSP do you have: the regular kind that uses a UMD or the PSPgo?
If you have a regular PSP that uses a UMD, what size memory stick do you have?

If you're looking to purchase and download Final Fantasy VII, VIII and/or IX you'll need a bigger memory stick. Each Final Fantasy game runs over a GB. I asked where you're from because I'm more familiar with the U.S. PlayStation Store, it's contents and prices. You don't need a PS3 to create a PlayStation Network account, but it does help as a way to download your games much faster and store your games if you're trying to temporarilly free up space on your memory stick and you'll also be able to play those games on your PS3, not just your PSP, however, you can still do all of that on your PC except for playing those games on your PC. I'll private message you more easy-to-follow info later tonight to help you on your little endeavor.

Ya you're definitely going to need a bigger memory stick. I lucked out on eBay because I managed to find a 20gb memory stick for the PSP for only $20USD. But if you're going to use Media Go on the computer, I think it's easier to do everything, you're going to need to get a USB cord that has a smaller slot on one end for MP3 players, digital cameras, cell phones, etc. Where you plug that into the PSP is on the top. It's really easy to do everything no matter which one you choose. Just follow the directions.

That and a way to buy the games with a credit card. Other than that and the memory stick, you're all good to go.

Thanks RAM! :)
Glad to be of help!

Well, if the PSN in the US issues gift/prepaid cards, you could buy games using that instead. I say "if" because I'm not sure if the US PSN does that, but the Malaysian one does.

And yeah, you'll need a bigger memory stick. I recommend starting out with a 16GB one, which should be good for Final Fantasy VII-IX and then some (quick maths show that FFVII will eat up roughly 2.1GB (assuming 3 discs of 700MB each). FFVIII will eat up roughly 2.8GB (assuming 4 discs of 700MB), and FFIX will eat up another 2.8GB (again, assuming 4 discs of 700MB). If you have money to burn, go ahead and grab a 32GB stick upfront. Afaik, 32GB is the largest available at the moment.

The games are actually smaller in size than that. They definitely don't go by the whole "700mb disc space" rule. I have FFVIII on my PSP and it's just a little over 1gb.

I bought VII and IX off the store (I have VIII on disc) and played them on the PS3. Well, I played VII. I still haven't finished IX. I left it to play Eternal Sonata and forgot where I was supposed to be going when I went back. :erm:

Quick question to anyone who knows the PS3 inside and out. Me and my xbox buddies (the ones that are looking into getting a PS3) were talking about a "party chat" where you and a certain amount of friends are voice chatting at once and can be playing any game. Now I don't know but one of my friends heard that the PS3 doesn't have that feature and that the only way for you and a group of buddies to talk at once needs to be in game chat and you have to be playing the same game too. I just want clarification because we have no problem turning on our xboxes first to start a party chat and then play the PS3, but you can only do that with a gold membership (which of course you have to pay for).

Good, aces! I'm happy you like it :) The two huge stacks of Ps3's and 360's at Best Buy the other day sure were tempting me, but I just didn't have $300USD to spend on both at the time (still don't) :(

well, truth be told, i got mine used at a local gamestop that i actually work at. it was only 228 bucks after the discount.

I'd rather do that than deal with children and their parents. Also, I'm sure your schedule is consistent and you aren't fighting to be scheduled in. Bet you have benefits, too.

That really wasn't the important part of that complaints list XD

You can survive children (I do), but lack of regular work and health care are the main drawbacks.

In game chat is currently on a game-to-game basis. Sony has said they're going to implement it outside of a game 'at a later date', but given their track record (*cough* GRAN TURISMO 5) I wouldn't hold my breath.

Also, CC, if you pay for PS games on the PSP, you're wasting your money. If you've already got the discs, just hack your PSP and use the software available to rip the discs to a format readable by your PSP - that way you can play ANY PS1 game, not just the ones drip fed by Sony at ridiculous prices for 15 year old games.

It depends on a lot of things - since you're using Media Go, i'm guessing you've got the latest firmware on your PSP, so I think you need a pandora battery to hack it - I haven't looked into it for a while though. Some Google searches should point you in the right direction.

I already suggested he hack it right here (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f17/may-i-ask-very-noobish-question-about-83636/#post1595525). Since my suggestion was ignored, I figured he was against hacking the PSP (for whatever reason) so I didn't press the issue. It's a shame he's showing interest now, because as you said, he's going to have to go off and get a pandora battery.

Not a chance. PS2 games on PSP is out of the question. Unless they're ported by a studio (like Shadow of Destiny, Silent Hill Shattered Memories etc), it can't be done.
