"FF7 is getting a sequel?

Big news from Japan. In the upcoming issue of Famitsu, Japans biggest gaming magazine, the producer of the Final Fantasy series, Yoshinori Kitase, said that there is a possibility that FF7 may be getting a sequel.

According to a Japanese website Quiter, Kitase said in an interview for the magazine that he'd like to see a sequel for Squares biggest hit to date; FF7. And he's not the only one. Thousands of fans of the series, as well as Squares workers, including character designer Tetsua Nomura, have expressed their approval for the idea. Tetsua Nomura is known as the character designer of FF7 and FF8, and the more recently for his debut as the director for Kingdom Hearts, the game that Square developed in collaboration with Disney.

Because of the large fanbase, Kitase said that they don't want to make a bad game which would disappoint fans. But no plans or further schedules have been made yet. However if FFX-2 becomes a success, it might raise pressure for Square to make more sequels to their earlier games.

Kitase has been in the gaming industry since 1994. He's been involved in developing such games as Kingdom Hearts, FFX, FFVIII, FFVII, Chrono Trigger, FFVI and FFV. He was the director of FFVII, so he would probably have a big role in the development of a sequel. He was a producer for Square's latest instalment, FFX, and is also working on FFX-2.

FF7 sold over a million copies in its first 3 days, and 2,034,879 copies during its first week. To this day FF7 has sold over 6 million copies worldwide, and is one of the most successful PSX games ever made"

Anyway. I just hope the sequel doesn't damage FF7 because that game is like gold and holy. Imagine all the disappointed fans if they got a not so good FF7-2. Imagine how high the bar must be to succeed or even be in the equal of FF7. :)

Not saying that I dislike the idea though.

If there are no humans left at the end of FF7, how the hell can there be a sequel? Will you be blades of grass or something? Perhaps bugs?

Humans survived; you hear children laughing at the end, remember? And they might not make the sequel take place after the Red XIII ending, anyway. It would have to be before it if Cloud and everyone else is going to be in it.

This can be good or bad, but whichever the outcome, it cannot be predicted yet...I'll have to see this before I can actually say..

Personally, if they do voice-acting with the celebs that teenage girls/boys obsess over, I'll have to hunt down Square and stab them with letter openers.

If they don't do voice acting, it's in the middle. Not good, definitely not bad. It's fine.

But maybe God'll be like, "Okay, it's time for Square to get cool again." And so maybe if they DO put in voice acting, it'll be good..

Sorry, but the voice acting's a big part in the game..it can totally win or totally kill the game...

And obviously, the graphics will be much better (not that they were bad, mind you). Let's just hope they don't slightly redo characters (like in KH. Compare FF7 Yuffie to KH Yuffie (or Yoofie.)

And hopefully, they don't alter the plot/story/gameplay much.. or to quote a famous uNF,"even better, off the channel."

SO this could be good or bad. Personally, I think they should just leave FF7 alone, but bagh, whatever..

I'd rather see a FFVII prequel than a sequel. We could see Cloud's SOLDIER days, or something like that.

And I hope they don't include voice acting in it. I hate not being able to name all my characters in FFX ;_;

Is that really how her name is pronounced in Kingdom Hearts? Please tell me it is because I've always pronounced it "Yoofie" myself, but recently I heard somebody say "Yuff-ie" (rhymed with "toughie") and I didn't think that sounded as cool as "Yoofie."

<font face="lucida calligraphy" size="2">I'm not terribly excited about the wave of sequel anouncements lately. The FF games all have epic stories involving the fate of the world as so forth... to create another huge adventure in the same world you just saved seems a little unbelievable to me.

I'd hate to see Square botch a sequel to a good game, too. I'll still play the game more than likely, and I look foward to them, but I'm a little skeptical. I'd rather see all new characters and worlds...

I agree, although a sequel will answear alot of questions there is a possibility that it could ruin FFVII.

I personally think that a sequel would be great as long as it contained sephiroth and all of the playable charcters from the original (rather than introducing new ones like Paine from FFX-2). If square decide not to make a sequel then they should at least follow up the idea of a remake with improved graphic and suchlike.

Also I think that kool Ranch's idea of a prequel would be pretty cool, or a sequel with more flashbacks in it.

I hope that it come on PS2 and GC. So i don't have to get a PS2 because i'm definately getting the sequal.

I've been hearing stuff like this for a long time now. It's hard to believe them all now (atleast for me) I heard that the reason people believe that there is going to be a FF7 sequel is because in FF11 there is a character named Nanaki in it.

Heh, ~if~ that does happen it would be pretty ruley as I really need to relive the wonders of FF7. And it's a sequel.. What could be better than that? ^_^

this is the first i have heard of this, but am thinking it will be along way of. i still can't believe that they are thinking of making a sequel to FF7, but i still think that if they did this, they set the bar pretty damn hi for themselves. everyone says that they surpased themselves with 8,9,10. i do agree that 10 was an amsing game and so was 8, ( hated 9) but if they were to do a sequel, their would be a new record in salls, but this may not be a good thing. it could end up destroying the series which would really piss me, and every other true FF7 fan out their, off. i think it is a good idea, but they better do it carefully :erm:

The making of a FF7 sequel is deffinetly gonna be black or white.
But I don't think it hurts to try... as I don't think it will ruin the FF series...

How on earth could Sepheroth come back he is dead Cloud and co killed him, 3 times, people usually dont come back from something like that.
And what was so bad about putting new characters into FFX-2

They didn't have a choice but to add some half of the charcters were dead(well ok 2 but u get the point)

its good to have new chars in sequels. we already heard the first ste of chars story, lets hear someone elses story. even if it is a sequel.

But um if they do make a squel wot exactly is the problem going to be??? shinra and sephiroth are both gone unless there is Neo-Shinras like the Neo-Nazis...

Well i hope there is a squel but its going to be kinda hard with FFVII:AC out now....unless its modelled around that.
