Fuck me, when shit hits the expectations. Yeah, I was kind of excited for this to be at least a decent score, but god daymn!

Holy shit man, how much more random a score can be?

Never is this score a coherent one, nothing stands out, there is no theme no tune, nothing. Nothing defines it, nothing makes this a remember able in any positive way. Some random shit is in every single track. You always go, why is this shit here?

The only really enjoyable piece is in track called "Pentagon" from about 1:05 onward. You gotta work hard to pick anything good from this pile of shit, you really do.


Bottom line, this is a big pile of random shit in a same toilet.

Yeah Sean Murray isn't really that good. WaW was alright, but this score is just his same screechy noise. I'm sure it's good for setting the mood ingame, but it's definitely not listenable.

I don't think a fresh approach was necessary. The unique cold war setting could have been an interesting opportunity to create a a soundtrack that embodies that spirit. There's no spirit here.

But! Like I said before, I'm sure this is great ingame music! It just doesn't make for good listening...

Agreed wholeheartedly. It's not as grandiose and it's different overall from Zimmer's/Balfe's effort for MW2 last year, but it's still pretty good as far as I'm concerned. Thanks again to the original uploader.

I almost 100% agree with Ruffman's assertion that this OST is a pile of dung when listening separately. I've played Black Ops, and while the soundtrack sounds decent in-game, it just does not work well at all as a stand-alone score.

Modern Warfare 2 made a good stand-alone score, though that soundtrack was composed by Zimmer himself as well as Lorne Balfe who is one of Zimmer's more talented underlings. The soundtrack version of MW2 is actually very good (though it inexcusably skips the snowmobile chase music which was the best part of the score), and stands out a bit actually compared to anything Zimmer's done in recent years other than Inception. The OST version of Black Ops . . . not so much.

However, as people have been saying that the rip is better, maybe the soundtrack mixer is just shoddy at constructing a good OST.
