Here's a list of them:

1980s in film (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_1980s_movies#.23)

I know not every movie from the 80s is on the list, but it's a nice place to start.

What are your favorites?

Gun to head, what would you choose?

I had a hard time choosing between Blade Runner and The Thing (both 1982) but ultimately chose the latter.

Choosing one is cruel. I can't do it. I'd have both of your choices and RAN (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbbfDntoRRk&feature=related)sat in front of me. If the gun was about to fire I'd blindly reach out and grab one.

EDIT: That RAN trailer has spoilers.

Aww man it has to be the thing... timeless classic, special effects are laughable these days but they tried their hardest, hopefully the new prequel will be decent?

For me it's A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)...when Freddy was scary and I actually had a nightmare in 1986 where Freddy was giving me a whack across the chest with his glove-claw. I woke up and checked myself for ruptures.

Somewhat related, my twin brother asked for some film suggestions the other day. When I suggested 'Schindler's List', he asked what year it came out, as if that should matter.

Then he proceeded to tell me that he couldn't watch anything from as far back as the 80's and couldn't even watch films from the 90's, they had to all be new. I almost vomitted on his face there and then. Sorta' wish I had.

I absolutely agree with your choice 100% in a landslide, and the Williams score one of the greatest of all time.

As for me, the pickings were mighty slim in the 1980's as to choosing a favorite,so the choice was an easy one.

It's fairly difficult for a movie to emulate the Eighties more than A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. The big hair, the denim, the female Urkel, the MTV footage, the incongruous pop music, Rick's training montage and Alice's pre-battle suit-up "transformation sequence" into the Dream Master... Yup, this is definitely the movie I associate with the decade, although I prefer Aliens.

It depends on the genre. Action comedy is definately Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2. The Indy Jones movies and Bond movies.

Add another to the Raiders fan club. And Temple of Doom and Last Crusade as well, for me at least. Easily my favorite three movies not just of the 80s, but of all time!!! Spielberg bringing his A-game, Harrison Ford playing a relatable, funny, often in-over-his-head hero, and yes, the great John Williams, what's not to love?

Nice to see the love for Back To The Future although I have to say I never saw the appeal beyond the first one. We have the trilogy at home and the kids watch it from time to time but I just don't feel the love.

The three Indiana Jones movies are perfection, though, so I'd happily plump for any one of those. Guilty pleasure would have to be The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.
