Hi I'm new here, and I don't know exactly where I should post this...but I guess I'll try here.

I've been playing FF7 on my psp, and I haven't played it in years until now, so I need a bit of help lol.
I'm up to the Temple of Ancients, and now I have Cloud, Aerith and Yuffie in my party...but I'm up to the Demon Gate, and I died a few times. I'm now leveling up, because I'm only on about lvl 36 with Cloud and Aerith and 34 with Yuffie. I read somewhere that Vincent is good against this guy, but the thing is, I can't go and use the PHS. There is no way I can change my party now. Is there anything else I can do besides leveling up?

Thanks :)

Firstly, welcome to the Shrine! :D

I remember Demon Gate to be real nasty piece of work the first time I played through FFVII, but the really cheap and easy way of dealing with him is to ensure beforehand that Aeris has her level four Limit Break Great Gospel. This makes the battle almost a trivial affair.

I presume though you don't have this so you'll have to make do with what you have. Firstly, make sure you have the Ribbon accessory (found in a chest in the section which resembles an Escher painting) and equip it to Aeris, then set her up as your healer if you haven't already done so (if you can, give her the Esuna materia too). Doing so will allow her to survive Demon Gate's nasty petrify attacks, and will be able to heal your other two party members of this effect quickly, as well as healing damage caused by it's strong physical attacks (if you don't have Esuna materia, use Softs to remove it).

Additionally, Time and Barrier materia will make a big difference as well (Slowing the boss down while Hasting your party will greatly improve your chances of survival, as it's attacks are fast. To further tip the odds in your favour, Barrier will halve the damage it's frequent physical attacks causes to you (the Enemy Skill Big Guard can give you both Barrier and Haste at the same time, but Time and Barrier are the next best thing.

As a last resort, you could have Aeris try using her Seal Evil Limit Break or try summoning Choco/Mog and hope it freezes the boss. Really, this battle is just a grudge match that is one of the hardest at that point of the game (don't forget to also equip the Bahamut summon materia you should have found immediately after killing Red Dragon earlier, as this will do a huge amount of damage to Demon Gate).

Hi, thank you a lot for your advice. I made a mistake in not getting the Ribbon before triggering the Demon Gate...because I found out I needed it after that...lol. And there is no way for me to get out of the Temple of Ancients either. I'm in a bad way because I have none of the things you mentioned...so I don't know what I can do really.

Luckily I saved right when I started in the Temple of the Ancients so MAYBE that can help. Hopefully I'll be able to get out of there lol.

I'll see what happens! Thanks again!

I didn't have great gospel in my first playthrough. SLow the boss. Haste yourself. And Attack like mad.

Pretty sure you can also stop the boss for easy hits.

Demon gate is really easier than you think unless you're all about "LOL HOLDIN' X SO I ATTACK"

Back row your characters & bang the guy with magic & limit breaks.
It always worked for me.

I always set my party to the back row against Demon Gate and use magic spells, usually works the best, because his "rock" attack is a pain in the butt. Bahamut really knocks his HP down, although you can only use it once at that point in the game. But you've beat him so that's irrelevant now! :)
