FINAL FANTASY VII COMPLETE COLLECTION



So, here it is. The Final Fantasy VII Complete Collection is a HUGE compilation of every piece of music related to FFVII I came across the internet. From official soundtracks to fan remixes, covers and arranged tracks, I managed to gather everything on 40 CDs containing around 750 tracks in total. This is my tribute to one of the greatest composers of all time, and also one of the most well-knowned soundtracks to date. The Compilation of FFVII help build a fascinating musical universe, getting more and more rockier with the time, but also darker and deeper. Here I will describe the different sections of the collection :

CD1 to 15 > The Official soundtracks.
Well, this is what everyone heard since 1997, the Final Fantasy VII soundtrack, of course, but also the Advent Children and AC Complete, Crisis Core, Before Crisis and Dirge of Cerberus soundtracks. These are the core of this collection, and the most obvious part too, so I guess there is nothing more to add.

CD16 to 21 > FFVII Rarities.
Now you may not know every single track here. A lot of Final Fantasy VII songs have been covered in other Squaresoft/Enix games like Dissidia and the Chocobo series, and were also a big part of the Final Fantasy Live concerts, Black Mages gigs included. The two last CDs contain a collection of unreleased tracks like the music from the fourth CD of the International Edition of the game, tracks from the demo version, B-sides from the Gackt and ayaka singles, and the Yamaha XG midi arrangements from the PC version (though I didn't get the complete version of the OST here).

CD22 to 40 > Unofficial Material.
And this is basically what made me do it. Fan work. When we got one year ago (or was it two already ?) Voices of the Lifestream from the OCremix community, I just fell off my chair. This was SO freaking good, and this devotion from the fans was just beautiful. If you add every other remix from the OCremix website, that's 8 CD you have of wonderful arrangements from across the world (and generations). But that's not all. The FinalFan Tim's remastered OST was just a dream come true for every FFVII fan, though it's not a professional remastering, fuck that, it's just awesome. Then we have 4 CDs of tracks found of many doujins albums across the internet, and none of them were actually dedicated to FFVII, just a track here and there, anyway some of them may really sound like a professional studio recording. And finally, last but not least, I spent countless hours on Youtube extracting sound from videos of fans playing a simple instrument like guitar or piano, sometimes they were two, three or more, so the quality of the sound isn't always perfect, but those very simple tributes have their place on this collection.


So, what else can I say ? Well, even if I included every single cover of the official material (booklets included), feel FREE to make your own, like a virtual box set or something like that, you can also spread the dl links across the web, I DON'T CARE ABOUT LEECHING. Just share it with your friends, webmates, forums, blogs, anything you want. It's yours now.

Also, If I made some mistakes like wrong tags or something like that, please notice me. And of course, If you want to add some new tracks, I'll make "bonus CDs" if there's enough material to do with (I won't put it on former CDs, because that would make me reupload EVERYTHING).

The first link is to ReMix:ThaSauce. The other's are songs from VGMix 2 that I'm hosting on ThaSauce for now because VGMix 2 got swallowed up by the internet a long time ago. Except for Dying Planet, which is originally from VGMix 1. I have some older VGMix 1 songs up there too (http://hosting.thasauce.net/vgmix/VGMixes/) (sorted by artist name), but there's REALLY no guarantee on quality with that stuff. VGMix 1 had some good tracks, but there was a LOT of not so good ones either.

one other comment: please, next time, make separate archives with some of the cds each. it took me all day to get part three today, after all the others had been fine. since it had been looking for the doujin material, this would likely not have been necessary, but unpacking a single archive brought a damaged-file error. Of course you won't know the archiv size of a part ahead of packing the files (though rar/zip/7zip will not compress an mp3 much, so the sum of the original file sizes with 5% knocked off might even be optimistic) you could quickly experiment before uploading. I guess quite some people on this board do not need most of the digicube albums. And your bonus cds should be extra anyway, I guess, so you could start there :-) that's just a suggestion, though

I knew the Mash-up with YZ, as a GREAT fan of NIN, but I didn't like it at all.
For the ukulele solo, well I did'nt know this album ever existed O_o, if I come across it on the web, I'll give it a shot.

Well, some more things that came to my mind today, though they are more remote than what i talked about before:
Piano Squall has medleyed the Final Fantasy Battle Themes from FFVII, among others

Recently, there has been another other live Album, Symphonic Fantasies. The "Fourth Fantasy", Track 5, is about 15 out 18 Minutes Final Fantasy VII, when counting Chocobo's Theme in. The Encore has a minute of One-Winged Angel in it, but that is minor.

Further, I wonder about the Famicom Version of Final Fantasy VII. According to Wikipedia
"Much of the game's music is borrowed from other games as well, in many cases shortened significantly to a few repeating notes."
Apparently, music from FFVI was recycled for it, but the referenced page does not really definitely exclude that some nes-arranged FFVII-Fragments are in there.

Then, there might be OCRemixes not labeled so, e.g. because they are mainly something else, like TimeShock, which is labeled FFVI, but also contains an FFVIII part- only they have to choose what they want the primary label to be. This just might be true as well other songs, but none come to my mind. I haven't heard it all through yet, though, so in the about 650+ I still do not know, they might be. Dunno how to best verify this. And I am not beginning to talk about similar things on other sites where there might be no labeling for songs remixe, which ocremix has...

Edgy: I always think that the phrase occuring during "melodies of life" when the words "melodies of life" are sung themselves does intentionally quote from the end of the FFVII main theme. It is just five notes, and continues in a different way than does the part right before the loop in the Main Theme. And I might be wrong on the exact intervals, but I cannot help but think Melodies of Life whenever the Main Theme loop gets there (and, yes, the starting pitch is different). Just, given that FF9 is a nostalgia game that quotes older music in different parts of its soundtrack...

Now, lastly, with no intention to be a dick, I do think that if you want to do a "Full Collection", you should not just keep an Album like FFZero out based on that you do not like it. Even if you want to take account for quality or relevance, that particular albums isn't below a cut that other contributions in the doujin section, and even the "other albums" section, made, though you are free to call the latter 'canon'. I think you could just place a link to CD41 Final Fantasy: Zero - Home (http://www.finalfantasyzero.com/) at the end of your collection, no need to bother with re-uploading it somewhere else, as it is readily available fo download, I believe. This is certain for Vern. Process, so you could link to them. (And for the record, I still like FinlFanTim's version much better.) Otherwise it's a "40CD"/"Massive"/"Glichmur's"/">40h" Final Fantasy VII collection. Btw, it's the 2010 collection :-)

Good catch on the Street Foo and Ehrgeiz stuff. I haven't even begun to look at what is in the youtube-rips. And that should be all from me.

I understand for FFZero, the thing is, it's very far from the actual FF VII soundtrack, and I think there's a "limit" to what this collection can add, for example if I play 3 notes of the main theme on my guitar and add some "oh yeah" on it, well that sure would be part of the collection but come on, nobody will consider it as an interesting piece. For the youtube rips, I could have add like 5 or 6 CDs, but with a really crappy sound quality.

well, since nobody else seems to mind or care, I'll let it go. your loss ;-)

I mean, the official soundtracks are easy enough to come by these days, but I really appreciate that you compiled so many fan works. That saves me a lot of time searching for new interpretations of FFVII music, so I'm really looking forward to exploring this collection. I'll keep an eye out for that bonus CD, too ^_^
