TALES OF BEATRIX POTTER
Composed and Conducted by John Lanchbery
Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden

Conductor John Lanchbery arranged these ballet suites for the 1971 film, based on tableaux from Potters’ famous stories and illustrations. Discreet Victoriana is the order of the day; much of the musical material is drawn from popular, now largely forgotten tunes of era. Highlights include prickly shimmy of ‘Mrs Tiggy Winkle’s Laundry’ and ‘The Tale of Pigling Bland’. The latter is a beautifully self-contained symphonic narrative in itself, with adventure, playfulness, wonder, fledgling romance and one beguiling melody after another. Enjoy!

Jack is a great ballet arranger and conductor. He settled in Melbourne, Australia in his late life. He passed away in Feb 2003, a few months before his 80 birthday. I attended his memorial service hold by The Australian Ballet and the State Orchestra of Victoria shortly after that. I expected his biography to be published in the coming years. Unfortunately, the guy who was responsible for that died as well. It was a great pity.

I have several ballet CDs he arranged and conducted in late 90s: Don Quixote (78min), Madam Butterfly (80min, a ballet score arranged from the same opera), Merry Widow(76 min, ballet score arranged from the same operetta), Sentimental Bloke (~70 min, a ballet score arranged from the same musical). They were all recorded with State Orchestra of Victoria (Now, called "Orchestra Victoria"), the orchestra playing for both ballet and opera at Victoria Art Center. Jack first conducted this orchestra in early 70s, when he hold the post as music director of Australian ballet in 70s.

Any interests? I'd find them and post them.

When I got time, I'll upload a few Lanchbery ballet scores. Could you please write in English in the future? Please don't take it for granted many of us here would understand every language:-)
