Hmmm, call me crazy but maybe you should get that missing file.

Just grab the missing .dll from here --> dplay.dll free download - DLL-files.com (http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?dplay)

I've used this site quite a few times. Really handy :)

Zdoom, vavoom, Doomsday Engine, I used to play DOOM, Hexen, Heretic & Strife with those.

Vavoom - the most advanced Doom source port (http://vavoom-engine.com/) - This is the one that didn't gave me bugs.

Doomsday - New Doom Forums (http://www.doomsdayhq.com/) - Doomsday Engine (http://dengine.net/)

Thanks, I'll give it a try!

Misu and Sarah, neither of those worked :( I think it's the computer I'm using. I'll try both those ideas on my Vista laptop :D

Are you sure you put the .dll in the right folder? :p

You need to drop the file into C:\windows\system32. If you have a 64-bit Windows install drop it into C:\windows\sysWOW64\ instead.

If all fails, well, congratulations, you've happened onto one of my nitpicks with progresses in technology: inability to play older games on modern boxes.

Those are pretty old games meant for Win9x boxes. Either go with Sarah's suggestion and use zdoom, dig out a old Pentium 2 from the attic, or go out and buy a old Pentium 2 with a old copy of Win98. If you dread the idea of another box, you could try emulating a Win98 PC using a VMWare install. Of course, you'll still need a copy of Win98 from somewhere.

This is all happening because M$ is phasing out the DirectPlay libraries from Vista onwards. So yeah, blame M$.

or you can buy the collectors edition of doom 3 on xbox and play them.
you will get 3 games for half the price than buying doom 1 and 2 on xbox live arcade
